Microsoft plans advanced Xbox Live Marketplace transactions

Microsoft has announced plans to further integrate its Xbox Live Marketplace service into games, producing "consumable" items that users must pay for, such as in-game currency.

The controversial strategy could mean that once consumers had purchased a full price title, they would need to fork out more money to buy exclusive in-game items.

"The controversial strategy could mean that once consumers had purchased a full price title, they would need to fork out more money to buy exclusive in-game items." There is no difference between "integrate its Xbox Live Marketplace service into games" and how it works now. I think this is a good thing. I don't want to have to go to the market place to find an update for COD2 or any game I am playing to download new content. I would prefer if this is integrated into the game; so when the game loads I am able to select/download the new content directly. How is this bad thing? Lots of people are not aware when new content for the game they like to play is released; with this new feature I am sure developers will be very happy and gamers alike. Make this easier to find.
I only hope Microsoft is copy writing/patenting all these new features; we all know the walls have ears.

This is a good idea, I have seen it being done on MMO that are on PC. People paying for clothes and special armor to use for 90 days and such. This way they can give the game away for free and make money on the micro transactions.

"The company has a number of ideas on how best to integrate the service into full price games."

wat does that tell u? u pay full price for the game.. Afterwhich u buy perishable items to replace ur already destroyed items.. WTF? and about the time limit thingy? do u tink we have only that game to play!? how about the others?
it all adds up...

The problem comes in when the developers start to leave out features in the main game knowing they can charge the customer again for features they know we will want. After all Ms wants the add ons no later than 90 days after the release of the main game.
When i pay $64 for a game I want it to be complete. Im finding myself buying the pc version of the title avalable for both systems, its cheaper and the addons are free. Damn this new trend of only the people with the most money getting the full game.

If I pay for any overpriced marketplace download, I better be able to keep it or im not buying it. If the horse armor caused such an uproar, making it be perishable would drive people nuts!. M$ better not pull this sh1t on customers.

I for one will be voting with my dollars (of lack of spending) on games that require this. Now, let's just hope this virus doesn't infect Gears.. M$, you best not pi$$ off your fanbase with this money-grubbing crap. Too much and you make everyone wonder how many levels REALLY should've shipped with the game. This crap gets too out of hand and I may deliver my 360s to your doorstep with a sledge imprint--and I won't be alone. BE WARNED, M$. gCM
