Sources within IGN have confirmed that the PSP2 will emulate PSP games plus it will drop any kind of physical media drive. If the source can be believed, the PSP2 will only play downloadable games from memory or through similar methods.
thats the first thing its supposed to do,emulating psp,ps1 and ps2 is a must for me to get it.
PS2 classics on the PSN would be epic. Even with Sony doing their HD Classics for PS3, downloadable PS2 titles would still be viable for PS3 and PSP2 owners. Heck, playing MGS2 or FF10 on the go would be truly awesome.
PSP2 games should be sold on memory cards. Download only will suck
Then take it a with a spoonful of salt. It fact, don't even take it at all.
GTA San Andreas playable on PSP2 will have me saying 3DS what? lol PS2 games on PSP2 will be a huge advantage.
Drool worthy if possible. I'd buy MGS3 immediately on PSN if it worked.
.....But that would kill it off, much like the PSPGo. Kaz even confirmed that the next future PS hardware wont go DD only for atleast another 10 years or more. Also: "The recently leaked development kit images were also confirmed as real by the source. The PSP2 is apparently similar to the PSPgo in that it slides up, but is larger and features dual analog sticks that are concave rather than convex." Isn't this info old ? VG24/7 even said that the model was changed to something more similar to the PSP1000 because of over-heating issues.
If Sony were clever they would adopt their Pro duo HG HX memory cards, give them some form of copy protection with a file usage that is unrecognizable by windows (like the PS3 HDD) and use that as a form of physical media. It negates the use of a UMD drive thus being less taxing on the battery and we still get physical media without any hassles.
there is chance that they make 3rd version which is about size of original psp but with slider but i agree, you need some of media storage to store the game other than digital download.
Kaz confirmed it for PS4, I doubt he ment psp2
I think what hurt the PSPgo was the lack of downloadable games/content. If every PSP2 game is download only, nobody will be missing any of the content they desire to have, unlike the PSPgo. So DD only wouldn't be that bad. The Memory card idea is good, aside from adding to the price of the games. If they don't gouge us another $10 just to get the physical media, then that would work too.
It wouldnt be a problem if they announce that the new console will just be DD. HX cards would be awesome besides they all ready have 64gb ipod touch out so something bigger capacity tech shouldnt be a problem later on.
ign didnt say anything about dd only............ expandable memory based games or downloadable games memory sticks are the next physical medium and will be sold in stores If it was dd only they would of said it only supports downloadable games. Bad reporting yet again Without a physical medium the psp 2 would be crushed in less than a week by the 3ds. Also the psp2 wouldnt even be sold in games stores, the 3ds would get all the space Not to mention the president of sony said that any system for the next 10-20 years would have a physical medium. Its a requirement. What a poorly sourced, written, and misquoted article
They already made psp go, and those disc drives are pretty noisy. I'm pretty sure umd is a goner... Too bad when I sold my psp, I held onto metal slug anthology and castlevania chronicles. Aw heck, no I'm not, those games still amaze me that they exist. PSP2 is totally going to be destroyed by 3DS though, its backing is too strong. PSP2 is probably going to start with gimped versions of ps3 games, while 3DS gets all the original new games that are fun on portables. Professor Layton and battery life FTW!

Dont get me wrong, i intend to buy the 3DS myself but it's a little too early to say the PSP2 is going to be destroyed, when the PSP got 60+ million in sales worldwide which is by no means a small feat.
There is a possibility, but all those 3rd party cash-ins you mentioned take time to make. Even if they lack originality, it going to be on a 2 screen 3d touch system that inspires originality. These games can't simply be ported to a vastly different system like PSP2 and I highly doubt the developers will dedicate that kind of time to each portable... It is just nintendo being the favored handheld with a flawless 20 year track record, and sony trying to build steam with their franchises again IMO. Quite frankly, nintendo franchises are better portable games. I don't think any "hardcore" call of duty/killzone players are willing to stop playing their console for a portable, this is nintendo's market.
How do you know it will have superior battery life?
i think for a portable device i prefer downloaded titles so i don't have to trudge games around, but for my ps3, i love having the blu-rays.
I like owning the actual game... going DD only is something that is a put off for me...
Same here. I still have some games on UMD and will still buy UMD over DD. I hate to not be able to play those when and if I decide to get a PSP2. I also am very fond of new game smell along with admiring the box art/instruction manual as well as the disc art.
PSP2 needs to emulate both PSP and PS2 games. PS2 emulation is a must so that the PSP2 has a great library upon arrival. Yet again, is IGN even credible?
IGN source: The moon is made of cheese.
PS2 Games on PSP2 would be awesome...
Carrying game cases around with you defeats the whole purpose of being 'PORTABLE' Saying you 'LIKE' physical copy's of over digital even though the game is 'STILL THE SAME' doesn't hold up as a strong argument and it never will, not in this day and age. There's a reason why Sony never chose to ignore such arguments.
now the haters who said psp2 wouldnt have bc can shut the fu^k up. you dont know shi7. Talking about psp cant be emulated on a psp2. you do realise anything can be emulated if the hardware is strong enough.
Hopfuly all the games I bought at the PSN for my PSP2000 will work on the [email protected] If that happens ,if it is confirmed indead to work out of the box then I will pick this new portable system at day 1.
BOGUS story http://psp.ign.com/articles... The IGN report lists nothing about DD ONLY or emulation.
Find it hard to believe PSP2 will have no physical media of any sort.
Wow. All this talk about it being announced today. All of these "insider reports"... tell me, how did that huge announcement go? Yeah, thought so.
Sony confirmed like back in the Summer that the PSP2 will still have an optical media drive, but it won't be UMD, but rather a new format altogether. I still fail to see how that confirmation didn't become big news and people still think the PSP2 will be all-digital. With the failure of the Go!, and Sony even admitting it was a mistake, why does everyone think they'll do the same thing with better graphics?
its still too early for media free consoles... at this point they will all fail like the psp go ..not a good idea for sony
Who gives a shit? The damn thing is only supposed to have downloadable games, and won't use UMD discs. What the hell use is this for me if all my games are on discs?
