GMRFM Evan: Ever since Half Life emerged in 1998 the face of the first person shooter has been completely changed. From that point on the usual “corridor crawls” where players waded through the demon hordes of Doom madly searching for keys were replaced by the tighter, scripted and more story driven experience delivered by Half Life.
However since Half Life there has also been a quiet movement looking to return the first person shooter to what some consider to be the “purer” state it found itself in its early days.
The game “Painkiller” by People Can Fly was at the forefront of this movement and the studios latest game “Bulletstorm” is definitely continuing the tradition. When I saw the game in November the emphasis in both its multi and single player was on adrenaline fuelled fun.
