Video review of Skate from 1UP.
The game looks way better than E3. I've never been into Tony Hawk games but EA's game looks tempting.
I played Tony Hawk 1 and 2, they got really REALLY stupid and repetitive after those 2. I absolutely love the controls on this game, once you get the hang of it, theyre fantastic and really draw you in. Theyre right, it really makes you feel more like youre doing those tricks as opposed to button mashing. Download the demo from Xbox Live, i recommend it.
how much did they give it?
If one good thing comes from the release of Skate is that it looks like it has made Neversoft turn it up a notch with their new Tony Hawk game. I tried the demo of Skate and just couldn't get on with the controls. I think it's going to be a love it or hate it thing with the game.
Good point. Neversoft's TH games were pretty much the only games on the market and have been degrading in quality but with Skate, they know EA is after them so things will get more exciting soon.
Skate is a 10/10
what did they give it?
i wonder what the differences will be between 360 & PS3. I'm not sure which one to buy. Not that i'm going to buy this day 1 anyway, since i've been spending too much $$ on games.
After playing the demo I've fallen in love with this game. The controls are spot-on! It's really one of those "how come nobody thought of this before?" concepts. The animations are decent enough as well, atleast you get a good feel of what's going on, and the physics are believable enough to provide that gratifying feeling whenever you pull a cool trick off. And that's where TH falls flat, including the latest TH game. It just looks goofy and awkward and very unsatisfying and the enviroments are un-inspired, bland looking (Skate has some nice looking enviroments, excellent level design). To me it seems TH isn't a step up at all. It's just more of the same, but with some new (imo) uninteresting features. Skate on the other hand feels extremely FRESH and EXCITING and I can't believe I'm actually looking forward in playing a skateboarding game again!
1up is stupid...
Played the game at a friends house and I really liked it.
For those who haven't watched this (or are too lazy to): It's more of a chat about the game rather than a review. They don't give it a score. They talk about the learning curve and how it's really hard to begin with but that once you do get it there is a real sense of reward. They also talk about the controls being very good and how it's not just a sense of button mashing. They talk briefly about the in game camera and video that you can create and how it was good. Then also about the create-a-skater and how comparing to old games it's really come on but there still isn't enough choice (and no female character). They then talk about how the city is big and one criticism is that you can get off your skateboard to go up stairs or back to an area where you were trying a trick - you have to skate the long way round to get back to the same spot. But there is a thing called session markers which allows you to save a point and then come back to that point almost instantly after you try a trick, but it isn't available to use everywhere. They talk very briefly about how pedestrians are annoying and can get in the way while you're skating - as well as other skaters. Then they talk a bit more about the learning curve and how it's more of a rewarding game than Tony Hawk and that's about it!
What the hell this is a preview not a review.......
