Disney Investigating Reported Framing Issues on 'POTC' Blu-ray

The discovery of apparent framing issues on Disney's Blu-ray release of 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' has caused a mini-firestorm among early adopters online, and now the studio says it's looking into the problem.

'The Curse of the Black Pearl' first hit stores this past May, as one of the most highly-anticipated Blu-ray releases on the format thus far, and it earned high marks from most reviewers.

More recently, however, reports have surfaced online that the disc suffers from significant framing problems that wreak havoc with the film's original aspect ratio.

This is not meant to be flame bait because I am a Blu-ray supporter and I think consumers who purchased this movie need to be aware of this framing issue. Disney may issue a recall or give the owners a replacement copy just like Sony did with the Fifth Element Blu-ray a few months back. I hope Disney fixes this problem before they release the trilogy because that is a must buy for me.

It's your money spent and you have the right to know if your product is flawed or not. HD DVD could also have this exact same issue but no one is brave enough to post it or maybe they don't want any more negative HD DVD news to make the headlines.

Whats HD-DVD have to do with Pirates? as if a flaw in HD-DVD could be hidden from huge groups of people trying to destroy it.

Thats some funny sh8t assuming or making up BULLSHIT saying every HD-DVD owner is either a 360 fanboy or a Sound and picture fanatic HD-DVD supporter.

Thousands of people have these devices and do not own a 360 nor are alot of these people Audiophiles or Videophiles(Meaning they'll/the - comsumer will TELL IT LIKE IT IS - not even knowing the existence of Audiophiles, Videophiles & 360 fanboys" - without a care $300 for a DVD player no one's going to hide anything)).

tonsoffun3606d ago

I honestly don't think that the reports of 'significant framing' issues are that reliable.

Did the issue only occur in the swordfighting/action sequence or is it systemic throughout the entire movie?

I mentioned the 9minute framing issues with this movie in one of the many many BD/HD DVD threads and some tried to debunk it due to my 'fanboyism' even though i'm neutral on the format.

but it's true fellas, someone i know told me there are parts that aren't too bad and others that have the heads cut completely off. major F up on disney's part

The question is why did this happen. It went ok with DVD obviously.

If Disney is investigating, that tells me it wasn't on purpose, as some people thought, so the only question left in my mind is about the different people with their hands on getting it to bluray and DVD. Is there some reason because of the people that the bluray version could have gotten messed up, or is the format that hard to make movies on?

If its the first, Disney screwed up in hiring someone underqualified, it seems. If its the second...well, at least there were rumors about Disney going neutral anyway, because I'm sure they don't want this to happen again.

Well, I own the movie and I really didn't notice. If they release a replacement disc, cool with me. Not too worried. At least it wasn't a Back to the Future f'up.
