Kung Fu Live brings sensor-style tech to PlayStation tomorrow
No thanks. We tried the Kinect experience 8 years ago with the Eyetoy on the PS2 and didn't like it then and sure don't like it now.
Wasn't aware you spoke for all PS3 owners. I on the other hand can't wait to try out Kung Fu Live.
I hope Sony does more games like Kung Fu Live just to prove that the PSeye is fully capable of providing the Kinect experience on PS3. Look at this video of head tracking using only the PSeye. http://www.youtube.com/watc...
I will be buying Kung Fu Live after christmas, along with Dead Nation :D
The Eye was tracking people as soon as it came out. Do people forget that Mesmerize was one of the first things you could download from PSN?
This is as much the Kinect experience as a one eyed person gets at 3D cinema.
Sorry folks but this is not a kinect experience or anything close.
So what is a Kinect experience then? Lag? Not being recognised? Your arm movements not registering? Please tell us! We know nothing about Kinect! We must know! /sarc
@Lowcarb "Sorry folks but this is not a kinect experience or anything close." As much as I hate to admit it, He is right. You must get screwed out of $150 bucks for it to be a true Kinect experience. Other than that.. its pretty close. However, I would agree with "Whateva" below and call Kinect a PS eyetoy type experience and would compare Kung Fu live to that.
lolol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watc...
I think this game will be good. But it isn't Kinect experience like you said. It's Eye Toy experience. But this time it's on a much more powerful console.
Looks pretty cool, might get old quick though
Game of the year.
That was the best joke of the year! :D
The eyetoy is actually superior to Kinect. Sony is superior to Microsoft. That means a lot coming from you, swat. I'll try to better myself so maybe you can love me again someday.
but ur brain inferior MS
Did everyone forget about Creatures Features? Its another PS Eye currently in the PS store now where you dont use a controller. That game is on the PS3 and came out I think 2007. The game is so old it doesnt have trophies. Sony had controller free games way before Kinect. FACT!
And Trials of Topaq or whatever it's called
Hell yeah. I forgot about that game. I have that too!
And the Gameboy, Dreamcast, etc had camera tech of their own. FACT! Your point?
It's some of the Kinect technology, but it's not that new to the system either. Even the Zoomba Dance game (yes, I own it because of my wife *sighs*) uses some Kinect-like technology similar to Dance Central (just far from as refined or accurate). The sad truth, other than depth sensing, what Kinect does has been done on the PS3. It's just that Microsoft has thrown their full support behind the technology to make better games with it than Sony who pretty much dropped it as soon as the device was released. Or, to be more specific, released only half of their goal, which was the PS3 Eye + PS Move Wand.
The sad truth is you seem to be unable to understand the massive difference between 2D and 3D... nothing sony has does what Kinect does. You can fake it all day, but it's not the same.
'The sad truth, other than depth sensing' 2D = height and width 3D = height, width and depth Looks like he actually has a keen understanding.
but depth sensing is a HUGE thing, as it allows you to TRACK an object in 3 dimensions, whereas in 2D you can only compare each frame to the previous one to see if there was any movement. one is tracking movement, one is sensing movement - theres a big difference. with kinect, if im standing there not moving, it still knows im there. someone else can start waving their hand over one of the menus, but Kinect will not respond to it because its tracking ME. with the PSEye and other 2D cameras (including microsofts vision cam for the 360) if you stand there still, and someone else waves their hand over the menu, it will enter the menu because all its doing is looking for ANY movement. again, that doesnt happen with Kinect. if im sitting there in control of a game and someone else is dancing around behind me acting like a silly bugger, it just ignores them because its tracking ME. the person in the background would absolutely mess up the PSEye.
"we are using a normal 2D camera, whereas Kinect has a depth camera" "nuff said Edit: Disagree if u want but that a FACT Edit 2: its not the same, even little kid know that its like 2D game vs 3D Game
"we are using a normal 2D camera, whereas Kinect has a depth camera, but the result is the SAME"
So by your own words a transvestite would be just as good as a real woman because the end result would be the same? You can fake it all day, but it's not the same.
@ Cuel And yet there has not been one single game shown that could not be done the same on the PSeye, and so much better when using the Move. Until they prove themselves, they have nothing. I cant play potential, only the games that comes from it, which so far, are hugely lacking.
@swat Post the game[s] and release dates.
Yeah..have fun with that.
I will for sure too!
about as much fun as any kinect game, and it wont cost me near as much.
Can anybody name one game that extensively uses depth for control in Kinect? Not motion sensing but inward and outward movement in the gameplay. I know the camera has it but haven't seen it being used.
Well muzzy, I can think of at least 4 of the mini games in Kinect Adventures that make use of this. Also, YourShape Fitness Evolved, Kinect Sports, and Dance Central to name a few. Having played only these games these are the only games I can effectively speak for. The mistake most people make when they step in front of the Kinect is assuming that it only sees on a 2D plane. Most everyone playing the RallyBall section of Kinect Adventures misses the ball because they don't step into it. IF you look at your on-screen avatar you can see that your body is too far away from the ball.
@muzzy... Actually every game I have played on Kinect so far has used depth control. I haven't played one game yet beside navigating the dashboard that only works on a 2D plane.
NB4 the usual 'Kinect potential' retort.
kinect like experiences have been available since 2000, it was called eyetoy facepalm
i think the funniest thing is that sony is making a $30 camera do things that xbox fans have to pay $150 for.
i don't care about kinect because it's crap , eye toy is thee same , i don't thnk it's a good idea using your body as a control but when you use ps move and use the camera on something extra like only your hands that would be good but all body is a bad idea ...
Sony's focus on these sorts of games speaks volumes when you think about it. How many of these camera-based games come along for PS3 and how often? The answer to these questions are, few and rarely. It shows that these sorts of games are fun and quirky, but only in a casual sense, and not for all that long. That's why you're seeing a slew of amazing exclusives which are pushing the boundaries of visual fidelity, and other attributes, whilst progressively getting better with each iteration. That is the future of gaming: Awesome boundary-pushing games which offer no compromise for storage quality, and control interface. Not some gimmicky camera interface that overcomplicates simple gameplay with gimmicky games. I will say that Kung-Fu LIVE looks very fun, and in small doses, that is great. But I'm glad it's not a huge focus for Sony, unlike Kinect is for Microsoft.
You're pretty much right on... The thing is, this has always been Sony's focus and they havn't changed it. From PS1 to PS2 to PS3 their goal has always been to push the boundaries of console gaming farther and farther without straying from that direction. Sometimes I think MS just wants a piece of the action wherever it can get it no matter how silly it seems.. In the case of Kinect, I feel they have sort of strayed from their path and put all their eggs into 1 basket hence the 500 million in advertising, and they really don't know where they want to go from here. I feel bad for the core developers being forced to integrate it into their games as well.. I definately won't be playing forza with Kinect, I doubt fans of the franchise will either, do they want little kids and families playing forza? Somehow It all just doesnt make much sense to me =(
Difference between the eyetoy and kinect is that kinect is taking off, as 'move' is linked with eyetoy this wil help obviously, but like it or not kinect is really popular.
Another difference is that modders are doing some really cool things with Kinect on the PC. If the Kinect is just Eyetoy repackaged then why weren't all these amazing things done years ago by the modding community with the Eyetoy? They hate Sony?
I'm really looking forward to Kung Fu Live. I think it will be a lot of fun. I'm going to pick up The Fight as well, because it appears to be a quality title, in spite of what a lot of reviewers were saying. http://www.youtube.com/watc... Now, Sony, please bring me a really cool 1:1 Ninja game for Move. That would be really kew. Edit: Move is taking off, even without a huge marketing campaign. Actually, it already took off.
This is an actual game, not a "Kinect experience" There's no dancing or fitness in this game.
The Fight is actually pretty good - regardless of the scores the "media" gives it. The more you train your fighter, the better the accuracy and speed in the game. Really satisfying to hit the character and nearly feel the impact. Don't think a camera based game will get close to The Fight. Now if Fight Night Round 5 will have Move controls, that would be day 1 buy.
this game is as much about comedy as anything else, its about "being shinobi" lol come on that is funny right there. only problem is unfortunately like kinect it requires quite a bit of space.
Check out my video of Kung-Fu Live's Kinect-like interface.
