Game Interface Review: Alien Breed 3: Descent (PC, XBox 360)

A nice “Gauntlet”-style alien shooter heavy on the claustrophobia and dark environments, Alien Breed 2 was a refreshing retro-styled shooter updated for the modern gamer from the classic Amiga series. Alien Breed 3: Descent picks up right where Alien Breed 2 left off, adds a bit of polish, works in some more horror/sci-fi film shout-outs, and puts you right back in the action. For those unfamiliar with the series, Alien Breed 3: Descent is a 3D top-down/isometric shooter where you play as Conrad, an engineer who is trying to survive a ship filled with nasty aliens and a deadly A.I. known as Klein. It draws a lot of influence from the Alien series (obviously) and throws in homages to other classic and modern sci-fi/horror films, with a basic but cohesive storyline.
