Are the Spike VGAs Good for Gaming?

In 2003, the Spike Video Game Awards awarded their Game of the Year prize to Madden NFL 2004. The rest is history.

Seven years later, the eighth annual Spike VGAs has grown into one the the industry’s most anticipated events of the year. Due to the awards? Of course not. The awards are still widely considered a affront to the integrity of the industry.

Yes, because firstly, no serious gamer takes their nominations and awards ceremony seriously.

And secondly, we get some great new game announcements. I think that's all people really care about tbh!

What catch-22? No one would miss the VGAs one bit. The big announcements can always be made over the net or at conferences like X10, E3, Gamescom, TGS.

this is just a part of the growing pains that the video game industry must go through as it get closer to full on mainstream acceptance. First we had no tv coverage, then small mentions, then tv shows about games, now we got stupid award shows and at some point in the future we will get a good awards show on air. Havn't heard allot about them but theGame Developers Choice Awards look like a good one to use. Might need to add alittle to it but the core looks goo.
