Gran Turismo 5: Punishing The Online Gamer

Since the release of Gran Turismo 5 over a million people have gone online to play with their friends. Sadly it wasn’t as simple as it sounds, some people weren’t able to find their friends and others were being plagued by connection issues and all of them were being secretly punished for playing the game online.

Would it be anymore bias if it was from GTPlanet?

I own the game and I'm the leader of the N4G GT5 Racing Team, so my experience with the game is valid.

This is not a GT5 hate article this is the truth about online gaming GT5 as it is right now.

Fishy Fingers2759d ago

Just putting it out there, people do tend to be fickle with these things.

If I saw, "Halo blah blah" from (or whatever) I'd think the same, and no, I would of course expect some degree of bias from GTPlanet. If someone loves something enough to dedicate their time towards it in such a way, they're bound to hold a slightly jaded view, same goes for me and things I value.

FordGTGuy2759d ago

I said during the launch they were plagued by connection issues and until the recent update yes we were. Read closer that part of the article was referring to the night the game released.

ryuzu2759d ago (Edited 2759d ago )

Why would I give a hit to an article that reports on something I took part in myself? Especially when I can see the article is innacurate.....

Answer : I wouldn't.

10/10 for effort in your trolling though - it takes dedication to post an article on a website simply to troll N4G.

JD_Shadow2759d ago

So turning the tables and asking him that sort of thing makes this okay?

And connections issues could be anything. It was reported by MSNBC's website last night that Comcast had some connection issues in the East Coast of the US. How do you know that it couldn't have been just that or something similar? You claim that something that could be caused by a good amount of things was caused by the game as if that was the only thing that could have done it.

There is being biased, and then there's being BIASED!

Game-ur2759d ago (Edited 2759d ago )

"… all of them were being secretly punished for playing the game online"

This line alone exposes the troll article, if you played GT5 you find the notice about the online issue WICH HAPPENS TO EVRY ONLINE GAME.

Expecting fair treatment from is like FOXNews suddenly caring about the environment or civil rights.

SmokeyMcBear2758d ago

I had absolutely no problems with playing the game online.

I have not run into any problems online or offline on GT5.
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. WTF is going on with this title and all the negative articles? Seriously it is like it could be the best of everything and people would still find fault.

The BS being mentioned has very little to do with the game itself except for AI which I never found to be a problem. These games have so many variables you can tweak that the minuscule things people bitch about would only effect those that play this game in it's purest form. Stock cars with all assist turned off. I know only one person that plays like that.

This is all nit picking nonsense. GT5 is an amazing game that any fan of racing owes it to themselves to play it. If you like arcade racers than crank all the assist up and have a blast. If you want a pure sim? Do the opposite but you have been warned that this will be frustrating unless you are a hardcore sim fan.

This game is so diverse and has so much packed into one title it is mind boggling. Enjoy it for what it is and not what you wish it was. Then again most of the people bitching about it don't own the game or a PS3.
*Note I did not say ALL*

For me personally this is hands down the best racer I have played this generation on the consoles.

ExplosionSauce2758d ago (Edited 2758d ago )

There was no mention of that in the article.
That's how you communicate, share and race with friends.
It's under the "Community" tag.

And you only need to "favorite" each car once.

Car tuning doesn't change or revert. Is he referring to the pre-race settings?
I'm not sure what this guy is talking about.

Plagued by connection issues? - you must be joking! Considering the numbers of people trying to hammer the online, the surprise is that it has worked at all, and as far as I can tell the majority have managed to enjoy the game perfectly well so far.

A few of the big FPS's could learn a thing or two from this launch and the quick response PD made to the initial problem of server overloading.

It's a testament of the singular importance of GT5 in the console sector that it gets every troll out from under their bridge.

I don't know why this guy is complaining about Multiplayer, this is the 1st time Gran Turismo have a Multiplayer online feature. Should be glad about this.

Also the Circuit maker, Weather effects, Kart racing was planned for GT6, but thanks to PD, they introduce those things for GT5.

digitalivan2759d ago (Edited 2759d ago )

That's why they are adding patches so quickly.

And btw i just realized something; GT5 currently has a 86 meta score, while GT4 had 89. I mean seriously, what's up with the rewievs? GT4 was among my top 3 ps2 titles, and GT5 is the best on this gen (although i haven't played enough games yet).

And ROFL on forzacentral.

FordGTGuy2759d ago (Edited 2759d ago )

Not everyone is a troll, this is the truth about the game as it is so far. Check out Forza Central we play all racing games and a lot of us are currently playing GT5.

Also I'm the leader of the N4G GT5 Racing Team.

digitalivan2759d ago

Yes I have experience with online, and I know it sucks sometimes. But we hardly have to "stay away from playing Gran Turismo 5 online".

FordGTGuy2759d ago (Edited 2759d ago )

For new gamers as they do not have the money to pay for the damage costs the accumulate online.

So yes I would warn new players to stay away from online until they have a nice amount of money.

Hell I'm hosting another game tonight online but I can tell you one thing I will not be using my personal cars.

if you had written a proper well rounded article wouldn't have to be defending it on the comments section =|

doesn't help you write "Punishing" when i doubt PD/ Sony are "purposely" doing this

remember, punishment is intended, not accidental

flame bait troll article fails.

You are the author of the article on

SmokeyMcBear2758d ago

wow this article is stretching it. It was fine as of yesterday.

Vesemir2758d ago (Edited 2758d ago )

Forza Central ! Yeah.... This is GT5, not Forza !
If you don't want to pay for damages, drive like a real driver.

This is not an arcade racer. You can't go on screwing your car as you wish. This is a race simulator.
Drive safe. And fast !

You could have put it... "GT5 is too difficult for me."
Instead of whine about it.

T9X692758d ago

I guess you missed this part.

"As for now I would almost warn gamers to stay away from playing Gran Turismo 5 online because that idiot going backwards on Daytona could cost you $10,000."

The problem is with idiots online who thinks it's funny to go backwards on the track and wrecking people intentionally. It's kind of hard to drive like a "real driver" when a car is coming directly at you around 150-200MPH.

Vesemir2758d ago (Edited 2758d ago )

Real drivers can dodge anything.
Specially in a videogame.

BrianG2758d ago

Wouldn't that idiot going backwards be the same as a camper in COD?

So why stay away from GT5 but now Call of Duty?

The game came out a few days ago and already its being bashed for online connectivity. Does anyone else remember when Call of Duty 4 was short servers for a few months after release?

Dark-Cloud2758d ago

what's with you T9X69 ?.. why you troll !!! i see you troll in every gt5 artical !! you don't have a life ?..

acere2758d ago (Edited 2758d ago )

have anyone lost ther frinds on the in game profile, mi dont show nobody only me.
and also playing online whit no reward is kind pointless hope they add somthing to the online.
