RipTen Review: Gran Turismo 5

Gran Turismo 5 has been an extremely long time coming, so long in fact that it’s main competitor, Forza, has had 3 iterations since Gran Turismo 4.  Everyone’s aware of these delays since GT is one of Sony’s marquee titles, but is the end result worth the wait?

The story is too old to be commented.

Chalk up another great review for the masterpiece. Seriously, what where sites like IGNorant thinking when they posted a review and only reaching level 5 lol.

dude are you serious?! did IGN reviewed the game at only level 5 :0?? if that's the case then I'm not surprised why they are called ignorant, I mean, what cars did they played with?! the amazing ones start at level 9 and higher, it's a damn shame people take reviewers so serious when they don't even spend the time a game deserves to be objectively reviewed. I can't remember a game that had me playing all day long like GT5, I started at 2 pm and it's 10:30 pm right now and I'm still going, such a great experience, people that get put off by reviewers are missing a total gem... well, back to GT5 :).

Yamauchi: 1

Reviewers like IGN (not even a complete review): 0.

What is funny is I remember IGN said the review would arrive late because they specifically wanted to send some time with the game.

If what you are saying is true (the level 5 thing), then I guess IGN and me have very different definitions of "spending time with a game"

TheHater2493d ago

I think IGN and other sites think spending 5 hours a enough to form a "accurate" judgement for this game. They are so used to beating shooters in 5 hours that they think they same should be for racing games also.

I am no fan of GT, but I know when a game isn't getting the respect its deserve because of lazy reviewers or reviewers with hidden agenda.

RedDead2493d ago

Sorry but for IGN an 8.5 is extremely high these days, their new review system is the culprit. 8.5 From Ign now means means go out and get the F***ing game.

Regardless, they didn`t play the game.

This quote stands out for me:
"Gran Turismo 5 has been an extremely long time coming, so long in fact that it’s main competitor, Forza, has had 3 iterations since Gran Turismo 4."

So, in that time, it took 1 great developer team (Polyphony) to create one amazing game, compared to a stretch of 3 games that M$ forced to be released before GT5, meaning Turn 10 was rushed to make a new Forza game basically every year. I dont know about you guys, but I would rather have one awesome ultimate game that has been crafted and built from the ground up and has had plently of time to develop (GT5) over a series of rushed games that really offered nothing big over the other one and just wanted "bragging rights" for a few months.

and I've been playing it almost every day since I bought it last Monday, I got it early, no way in hell did IGNorant and the rest of the so called reviewers play the full game or at least enough of it to make an informed decision!!!

I couldn't agree more.
You can tell that the majority of reviews barely played this game. I have about 20 hours logged in and I'm approaching level 20. Spent a lot of time tweaking and reading about the game. I have not even begun to crack the surface of what this game has to offer. You should literally put in around 40 hours before writing a review for this game.

There is just too much content and things to do and learn. Driving school is a freaking blast. I have yet to find one thing about the game I don't like. The only minor gripe I have, and it is really minor, is they don't suggest what car you should purchae for Spec A and B events. Some they do but most they don't. They just tell you the restrictions and you are left to memorize or write it down on a pad and then go to the dealership. That is my only gripe and it's small compared to how truly amazing this game is.

Got to hit the rack. Need my rest because I am going to be back at it first thing in the morning. CIAO

My one bitch about GT5 is it's aftermarket/tuning aspect. You go from racing simulator to arcade style upgrades. It doesn't have to get all technical with valve lift and duration, but generic upgrade 1/2/3 is lame.

A game like GT needs a long time to play like a RPG does. You cannot see the whole picture in 5 hours, you need 50. Jst like an RPG, You need to know where the story takes you in order to make your evaluation on the story.
