Brown bid to ban violent games

Gordon Brown promised yesterday to look again at banning violent computer games for teenagers.

He said he was aware of growing concern about the effect of screen violence on youngsters. And he would study whether new rules are needed on advertising and sale of violent games to them.

I swear to god - if they have a citizen's panel, I will try my best to be in it and provide a logical and realistic approach to violent games.

Banning them is not viable - there should be further restriction on who is allowed to buy them and perhaps, where and when they advertise them too.

They can restrict sales of games to a certain age. Thats obvious as it is mildly practiced. But as anyone who actually plays video games knows, its the parents problem.

Anyway, if they found a way to "ban" violent video games it would destroy the whole industry. =/

bullsh*t! the movie theaters are more then happy to show kids movies i have a hard time watching and im 24 with little morals! its the parents job to watch there kids and to watch what they or there kids buy. 15 and up should be the legal age for m rated games and 10-15 for teen. by the way add this guy to the douche bag list which host most pollitical people in washington dc!

While I agree, remember article is about the UK, not the US. They are a hell of a lot more restrictive, as far as games go, over there.

Guys, I wouldn't take this seriously. Even if he really tries, and it happens to get through the houses, the most that will happen then is a new "no sales to under 18" law on certain games.
Pms like making a whole load of promises to people they will never keep in the run up to elections, this particular one is to pander to 40+ year old clueless mothers.

A much more informative article was on the BBC website - the Mirror obviously want to have thier own sensationalist slant of news, but basically he wants a panel to review and label games to thier appropriate age level, not ban anything.
