Honestly, I wish they'd shut up about their 3D vision...

dragonelite4901d ago

Hope sony puts 3D in the backburner for now they should have pushed 3D with next gen when we actually have hardware capable of running 1080p@60 fps and 30 fps for 3D then make the tv push with the new Wk or Ek

They're pushing it now for the same reason Microsoft is pushing Kinect now rather than with the next generation. They want to be the first ones out of the gate with the technology.

Both technologies would probably be better off with the next generation of consoles, but that leaves the competition an opportunity to catch up with, or even surpass you.

"We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that (developers) want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is, what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?"
--Kaz Hirai, CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment

Be patient Sony purposely limited developers from being able to take full advantage of the PS3. Later in the Gen you will see games in 1080p@60fps with 3D.

Luckily for those not wanting to wait a cheaper and supeior alternative is available today.

Sony is just setting the ground, same with Nintendo.

Back when HDTV launched, who do you think it appealed to more? Gamers or casual Television user?
Most likely gamers since they had the most content that could run in HD.

Same thing is happening again, 3D has the most content in gaming. Once they have captured enough of the market and sold enough price cuts for the sets will happen and become more affordable.

I don't see 3D taking off that fast, but then again new TV sets never do (Color TV had just as much issues, HDTV, and now 3DHDTV)

Only issue is the glasses, but that could change since displays are being created without the use of them. 3D Started without them, i do see why they should have them later.

@8800gtx
1. the hdmi port on the ps3 can't do 1080p@60 in 3d. Maybe the Cell+RSX can but the port is the limit
2. 8800gtx? it's a bit old now,no?

Considering Kaz Hirai didnt design the PS3 (or previous PS) but Kutaragi. I would say Hirai was just talking some PR crap. He most likely has not idea of why the PS3 (or the PS2) had that alien arch.

If I remember correctly Hirai also commented they will be receive feedback from devels regarding the design of the PS4. This comes to show Hirai is not interested in following Kutaragi philosophy.

I really like 3D. In Avatar it was cool, but it was just a movie in 3D and wasn't taking advantage of 3D. But I recently saw Resident Evil in 3d and that was designed with specialized effects for 3D and that was really awesome!

Nothing like having 2 barrels pointed right in your face to really dial up the immersion!

and crap of Move....

Poor ignorant fan-trolliar..

like the one saying that : "All i want is,
Custom soundtracks,
Cross game chat,
Voice messaging,
Ingame vid/pic capture.."

lol, nice try, but you fail like every single uneducated xboxfan since 2006.

custom soundtracks ? done.
voice messaging ? we have video messaging = bam.
ingame vid/pics ? lol, you are really misinformed.

the only thing that don't exist for now is cross game chat, but most of the gamers don't care, since they can talk in the game they are playing !

"We also have techniques like holographics for the PS3 that I think will be very interesting for the future 3D games."

Like I've said in the past. If they combine the conventional 3d (glasses) with the Johny lee style headtracking virtual window (using pseye)= holgram effect for the user!!!!

Qui-Gon Jim4901d ago

Combine those with Move. It would have limited uses, but they would be awesome ones. Imagine having in-game collectibles like Batman: Arkham Asylum's character trophies, but being able to manipulate them with Move and having them appear to actually be right in front of you.

"
In terms of dev budget and cost, you said 3D adds on another two per cent. How about processing power?

It all depends how a game is converted, if a technique like reprojection is used then is can be as low as 3ms of GPU time.
But it all depends how a game converts to 3D. If a game draws two entire frames with split-screen then its developers will find it easier to convert. There are also a lot of new techniques that can drive processor usage down."

3ms sounds good enough. Reprojection = Z-buffer technique?
