If someone were to come up to you on the street and loudly proclaim "My 3DS is an electric guitar!!", you'd probably just smile politely and try to put as much distance between the two of you as possible. Their boasting isn't total insanity however, as Music On: Electric Guitar is an ambitious little app that aims to provide all the tools you need to do exactly that.
While I may not be an accomplished musician, I have dabbled with playing guitar several times throughout my life. That is why Abylight’s Music On: Electric Guitar for 3DS excited me so much. It is an inexpensive ($1.99) application on the 3DS that lets me carry a miniature guitar in my pocket, letting me mess around with possible song ideas while on the go. So is Music On: Electric Guitar a rockin’ riff or is it an untuned mess?
Nintendojo: Let’s get one thing out of the way right off the bat: Music On: Electric Guitar is not a video game, it’s a tool. Music On isn’t scoring you, it isn’t tracking any sort of progress, it isn’t presenting any sort of challenge, and it isn’t telling you a story. Instead, it really is a strange little guitar and amp combo that fits in your pocket. So, while it might not have any pretense of being a game, we can still take a look at whether or not this particular piece of software accomplishes its musical ambitions.
