Is Mass Effect heading to Earth?

A number of Tweets from developer BioWare have suggested its next game will be set on Earth.

It's not yet clear if the game will be set in the Mass Effect universe.

in the vein of Fallout, possibly sans post-apocalypse theme.

Not ME.

That's my guess.

Christopher2588d ago (Edited 2588d ago )

I'm leaning towards Alpha Protocol type espionage game (mostly out of hope).

No way is it ME on Earth _unless_ it's a huge prequel storyline about Humans first interactions with the Alliance and is set many many years before the current ME timeline. I highly doubt it, though. I'm 95% certain it's a new IP.

Baka-akaB2588d ago (Edited 2588d ago )

why does it have to be a prequel ? The reapers are most likely to attack Earth at some point .

And Bioware kept only showing the earth from afar for a reason

Christopher2588d ago

Has to be a prequel because of the armor and weapons used. They're more modern-day than space marine tech. If it wasn't, the armor and weapon would look vastly different, more like what we've seen in ME1 and 2.

IronFistChinMi2588d ago

It can't be a ME prequel, as that looks like the Incisor sniper rifle and the in-game description of that, says it's a new wave of model.

Christopher2588d ago

Just because it looks like a DLC sniper rifle from ME2, doesn't mean it is that. There are other games with rifles that look similar AND BioWare has a history of cross-pollinating their franchises (DA armor in ME2, for example). It just means he's using a sniper rifle that looks like one from another game, that's it.

yup. def not ME. pretty excited to see what it's about. good few weeks ahead to find out though =/

Munky2588d ago (Edited 2588d ago )

Did you play ME2? It's as close you can get to a "Shooter RPG" as you can get, a better description would be a shooter sprinkled with some RPG elements, it definitely was not a traditional RPG.

Downtown boogey2588d ago (Edited 2588d ago )

That weapon is the M29 Incisor Sniper Rifle from ME(2)...

@Below
Almost? It's exactly the same except for the coloring... :)

hay2588d ago

Yeah, it almost looks like it.

Christopher2588d ago (Edited 2588d ago )

and the shape/contour and the length...

It is definitely similar, but so are the majority of sniper rifles in games from future to current tech.

poopface12588d ago

Its obvious that the reapers will most likely try and attack earth.

In ME2 the collectors are actually going to attack earth, if you follow the story.

The whole series is about humans place in the universe and it makes alot of sense that there will be parts on Earth in ME3.

Not sure if the game they are talking about is ME3, but there is almost no doubt in my mind that shepard will visit earth in ME3.

In me 1 you go to the moon, so why not go to the earth in ME3?

The reapers were interested in humans, and other human like species, so of course they will be interested in EARTH.

BrianB2588d ago

i hope its 360/PC exclusive

NYC_Gamer2588d ago

really doubt its exclusive to any platform since its from Bioware/EA....

RedDead2588d ago

Bout damn time. I always wanted to land on earth in the games.

JacobIsHollywood2588d ago

I'd like another one...I'm just not a big Bioware fan. I feel like even Mass Effect 2 was slow. I don't want "unnecessary" missions.

Christopher2588d ago

That's almost half of most RPGs, and they're called side quests.

RedDead2588d ago (Edited 2588d ago )

A shame, Bioware have given out nothing but top quality games this gen....actually looking at there record before this gen it seems they gave out nothiing but top quality games before aswell

JacobIsHollywood2588d ago

I'd like my "side quests" to have stories in them.

I like Bethesda. I like Nomura's games. I like Level 5.

Downtown boogey2588d ago (Edited 2588d ago )

The side missions in ME2 did have their own story branches...

Christopher2588d ago

ME2 actually didn't do a bad job with side quests having a story. Most side quests were ways of expanding on the background of your mates, something they didn't do enough of in the first game, IMHO.

Most complaints about ME2 were the removal of traditional RPG standards (die rolls, equipment finding, exploration, etc.) and replacing them with more typical shooter standards (limited weapons that you upgrade, no die rolls/only player skill based not character skill to determine success, linear design and gameplay elements in the areas that you explore, etc.).

SoulMisaki2588d ago

... That nobody has noticed that the sniper rifle he is holding is an M-29 Incisor from Mass Effect 2 DLC.

This is Mass Effect, not another project.

Downtown boogey2588d ago

Hey I saw that too! Look above :D
