IGN: What Does 4G Mean for Gaming?

There will always be a need for the powerful, unhindered potential of high-speed hardwired connectivity in industrial settings, but on the consumer level, the desire for true wireless freedom is paramount. With smartphones becoming increasingly prevalent and tablets gaining momentum, more and more people are consuming information and media on-the-go and independent of broadband internet connections, instead they relying on cellular wireless signals, available just about anywhere, anytime. But email access, casual web browsing, and streaming media isn't the only potential for true wireless connectivity, it has potential for gaming applications as well. In fact, next-generation cellular connectivity could power online gaming for consoles and future handhelds.

Nothing as only the US plan on using it. UK network providers have said they are not interested in this technology as it would cost too much to upgrade there data centres.
