Sony dominates the top twenty but Dragon Quest still rules all.
I want DQ 4 badly
Why else do Japanese play besides RPGs? I mean seriously what do these gamers play? I just do not understand that market. Here in the US and other spots, we play a little bit of everything. RPG RPG RPG RPG...
dont be a hypocrite because ofcourse they also play other games. its like saying americans only play Shooters and racers...... its just really loved like Americans love those FPS and racers right?
it' s fare to say hey do play other games, I wouldn't think they play 100%, if that is what you think I'm implying. I think, more of variety is more accepted by American and European gamers. Do you see many Japanese developers making shooters/FPS games? But we do see western developers dabble in many new RPG's, even if it might be more westernized but a lot of new RPG's coming form somewhere other than Japan. I'm sure there is more Genre's but Western developers are really pushing most genres. Your just now starting to see Japanese RPGs with more of a western flavor.. Anyhow there is more to it..I think you took me to literal, then again I play a little bit of everything, so I don't see where the hypocrisy is, especially asking a question..
ok notice that not all those are rpgs, is resident evil 5 an rpg?? is samurai warriors a rpg?? They just play more rpgs than america. what does america mostly play? FPS, FPS, FPS, FPS, FPS ....
The Japanese actually do more original content than america, they add in a little rpg flavor and its called new. They have Zelda, okami, katamari damacy, loco roco, shadow of the colossus, and not to mention made the best third person game ever resident evil 4.
So in a month White Knight Story's interest has shot up, GT5 is off the map, halo3 is back in it and the rest is basically the same
Why do we care about Japan's Top 20? Isn't this an English-speaking site? Edit: @ Vertius Because 'Sengoku Musou 2 Moushouden,' 'Shin Sangoku Musou 5,' 'Ar tonelico II: Sekai ni Hibiku Shoujo Tachi no Souzoushi,' and 'Layton Kyouju to Akuma no Hako' seem like fantasic titles. I'm sure they'll be system sellers in English speaking countries.
Because Japan is the second-largest market in the world, and a lot of important developers and publishers are based there.
no console has ever won the war with out the japanese accepting it. So what they are looking forward to buying is important because it helps shape (not completely determines mind you) what system gets what games everywhere else. If the 360 were more popular in japan it would probably be getting more japanese games such as MGS4 or FFXIII.
You forgot all the other 17 titles on the list. If you don't think Metal Gear Solid IV and Final Fantasy XIII will veer the market one way or another, you're deranged. And Prof. Layton is meant to sell well in Western countries. Many analysts think it's set to be the next Brain Age.
DQ 4... hmmm...
The land of the rising sun has no hype for Halo3. 360 shouldn't exist in that place.
I've lost a bit of enthusiasm for Super Smash Bros. Brawl because the hype has been stretched out for so long, so forgive me for disagreeing with Super Smash Brothers. Brawl's position above Super Mario Galaxy... do you reckon it's got something to do with the fact that the press have already played a few levels on Galaxy but haven't even touched Brawl? :c
Im far more hyped for Galaxy than i am SSBB. But suprisingly the games i want most on Wii are not even first party. No More Heroes Manhunt 2 Battalion Wars 2 (second party) FFCC
top 5 aren't even coming out till well into 08... But yeah DQ IX I can't wait for along with them remakes they are making ^^ Well basically I can't wait for almost all the Square Enix games that are coming out for DS
And almost everything PS3 related is coming in 2008. I'd love to see total PS3 sales in Japan a month after Resident Evil 5 comes out, which comes after almost all these titles come out. The price will probably be a lot lower, and it'll be in general a healthy platform. After all these titles come out, I don't know what will save the 360 in Japan. That's the great thing about owning a PS3 long term instead of a 360. What a lot of 360 fanboys don-t realize about selling good in Japan, is that it provides LEVERAGE (remember that word, fanboys). I say Leverage because once the PS3 wins the nextgen market in Japan, the amount of japanese games on PS3 compared to the amount on 360 will be enormous. 2008 will be the year where PS3 significantly separates itself from 360. 2009 will be the year where the amount of japanese games on PS3 will significantly separate itself from the 360 amount. Japanese support in 2010, 2011 and 2012 will be so laughable, Microsoft is gonna have to come with a new console. Sony might as well want to wait a little bit longer. And why not? The power needed to get closer to reality (and by that I-m not just talking about graphics) grows exponentially, and they better not deliver a "1.5" experience if you know what I mean. And by the way, when I say nextgen, Im not counting the Wii at all.
Actually, that is 6 titles for the 360 on that list, if you include multiplatform titles. So, the difference in software isn't that huge. Unless you like hentai games. MG4 and Final Fantasy gives you a little leverage. But, not too much. We will see though. There is hype for Halo 3 here. Not Final Fantasy hype. Even grade school kids know about master chief. I was shocked. The 360 is dead in Japan, I will agree. But at 600 bones the Wii will continue to dominate in Japan. As long as the 360 remains second in the rest of the world, most Japanese companies will stay multiplatform. As you are beginning to see.
When famitsu does these polls they give the option of what system they are going to buy it for. So no there are not 6 360 titles on this. 360 is next to non existent in Japan.
Really? Do you have proof of that? Have you taken one of these surveys? あんた日本人ですか？ おれわFamitsuの事に対していろ いろわからない遠め散るんですよね！ @cooke: Sales stats are obvious. Yes. But, the point is this. It has no bearing on what is going to happen in the rest of the world. If the Wii and 360 stay at 1 and 2 then most companies(even Japanese) will continue to go multiplatform as they have this year. Im not saying the 360 and Wii will remain 1 and 2. But some people bring this list up as an argument that the PS3 is going to dominate next year. Maybe, if the 360 and Wii sell next to nothing. In Japan, the 360 and PS3 are doomed to second and third place. This fight is over. Hardcore gamers are picking up a PS3, but it is the DS and Wii that the normal consumer is buying and it will stay that way. If you disagree and want to pull some more "research" out of your hat, save up a plane ticket and head over here to Japan. I have a guest bedroom open.
I did some research. And sales stats are obvious.
even if it isn't, you can still wave goodbye to more varied games on the platform, japanese style!
