Call of Duty Black Ops Ignores its Female Fan Base

"It wasn’t until I got home that I just got pissed off. The main reason people go to midnight launches is the extra goodies they pick up along the way. I did well, grabbing t-shirts, bags and posters to decorate my life in. [...] Sweet! I love avatar stuff and some exclusive Black Ops clothing would do quite nicely. Well no… it won’t because it’s for blokes only.

Now yes, I am very aware that more men will be playing/buying Black Ops but what is with the total disregard for the ladies? I know it’s something little and nothing to really moan about but after waiting around in the cold for a few hours to be excluded from one of my bonus items is a bit crap. It’s the principle more than anything and I’m sure a few other ladies are going to feel a bit put out by Activision’s total ignorance to their female fan base.

Oh well, at least they got my money."

It had a female fanbase?
O.o

To be fair, Activision's ignorance goes much beyond it's female fanbase. =/

Neckbear2874d ago (Edited 2874d ago )

Attention whores who like being hitted on by 13 years old teenagers.

"To be fair, Activision's ignorance goes much beyond it's female fanbase. =/"

Oh, indeed. Although my guess is this would be more of the developer's "fault".

JsonHenry2874d ago

My 3 little sisters all play the CoD series, as do their friends. So it DOES have a female fanbase.

However, this one is more up their lane because they almost exclusively play the zombie mode and rarely play deathmatch.

Quagmire2874d ago

Call Of Duty is R18 tho!

Persistantthug2874d ago (Edited 2874d ago )

I'm asking because I've never bought any Call Of Duty game...I've only played it once on my little nephews XBOX once, and he camped in a bedroom the whole time.

So yeah....are there any female soldiers?

Thanks

itsralf2874d ago

As far as I can remember, there was not a single woman in MW2.

antz11042874d ago

Oh this one is rich. Lets jump on the BO hate-wagon for DUMB reasons, lol. Stop bitching ppl and go play your game.

Solidus187-SCMilk2874d ago

that Oprah ignores he male fan base, noone cares.

R0me2874d ago

So she loves COD, walks to midnight launches, but cant wear clothing for "blokes"?!

This woman really has issues "Some girl on girl action for you there".

the last line is exactly right and its why people will keep getting the shaft....the only voice you have is your wallet....and people keep bending over backwards to give money no matter what they do or say.

u get what you pay for.

If you targeted females with your games, you would go broke within a year. Retail stores target women since they outnumber male stores and sections by 85%. When you mention that you play video games to 90% of the women you meet, look at their expression. That says it all. My demographic audience would be the 10-36 year old male. F-ck the female fanbase

SA1NTofKILLERS2874d ago (Edited 2874d ago )

According to this report, the female fanbase in gaming is a lot bigger than you think. At least in Canada. You should move up here b/c over 40% of women 18+ play vids a couple days a week. http://www.ddgameworld.com/...
Hang in there though dude, I'm sure some chick out there will warm up to your misogynist disposition.

UltimateIdiot9112874d ago (Edited 2874d ago )

From my interpretation on those stats. It's exactly the size I think and it's not big especially when it comes to more hardcore games. I'm reading that women are into games like farmvilles and puzzle games not shooter like men. You do know they count those facebook games as video games on that stat?

We all know Activision knows how to spend their money down to the penny for maximum profits and clearly they are aware that the female base interest and dedicated enough to go to a midnight launch is about as common as a guy out waiting for a big sales on pursues.

madjedi2874d ago (Edited 2874d ago )

Well it's harsher than i would have put it, but orange is right go to a mall and count the number of stores that are clothing or jewelry related for females, there isn't much left in the mall.

And the link you posted, just reenforced the idea that gaming is a male dominated activity, some areas are more dominated by men and others mmo more females i have heard.

madjedi2874d ago

ugh bad rapping and he succeeds at making himself sound like a total asshole.

Neckbear2874d ago (Edited 2874d ago )

Here we go with the GURRL GAEMRZ.

OMG YEZ I PLAI GAEMZ DUN HIT ON ME SILLY BOYZ.

C'mon.

Bayonetta only had a female main character. I guess Platinum Games is ignoring their male fanbase. I'm gonna go write up an article on the internet about how I am a male gamer and I can't play with a female character. (Needless to say, this is obvious sarcasm)

Seriously.

soundslike2874d ago

did you actually try to say that the skanky whored out Bayonetta chick appeals to women?

lol

Baka-akaB2874d ago (Edited 2874d ago )

still i dont remember women and teenage girls having issues idolizing celebs with outfit easily as skanky .

Basically when it's an artist she is a strong independant woman , but when it's stuff like bayonetta , its just a ho for male pigs ?

Anyway and either way i dont see the relevance of bayonetta in the original topic and argument .

What bugs me with the original complain , would be that i dont see complains about freebies for games that would cater mostly to female gamers . If you aint the majority and actual target , what can you do , besides voting with your wallet ?

Croash2874d ago (Edited 2874d ago )

It's quite simple to understand.

Attend to Black Ops launch.
Get bonus avatar items for your profile.
Can't use code because it's for males only.

Reaction : "What the fuck?"

And that's understandable.
Why would you make a male-only avatar costume, is it that hard to create the female version? Do they believe no girls would go get a copy of Black Ops? ...

BigMeach5042874d ago

You could make that argument for any video game out there. Every skin released for God of War, is a variation of Kratos, a male figure, and I don't hear any women complaining that aren't any female avatars released for GoW. How about Metal Gear Solid 4? No female avatars once again. No complaints. The fact that they didn't release a female avatar isn't about sexism, or favoring males. When's the last time you saw a female avatar in any past Call of Duty games? I can't even remember one female soldier avatar fighting alongside me and I didn't see any outbursts like this for past games. And it is exactly what you said it is, a rant. It's not going to cause Activision to create a female avatar, so take your bonus avatar and enjoy having it in the first place.

Croash2874d ago (Edited 2874d ago )

You can't compare that to a video game, it's not a Call of Duty : Black Ops costume!

It's an Xbox account Avatar costume... That's completely different, it's only about clothes, so they could have created them for both male and female avatars.

Now I'm just saying what I thought of the rant, and I understand the girl's reaction, but I did not buy Black Ops, I do not own an Xbox 360 and I'm not telling Treyarch to create a female version of their costume.

It's just that, as a player, I would understand the frustration of being granted a special gift that you wouldn't be able to use because of your gender, when it should clearly be available for everyone since all who were at the event could get their hands on the game and the bonuses.
