Are Gaming Companies Abandoning the UK?

There is little doubt that the British gaming industry has been a force to be reckoned with, bringing the world such top-selling games as Grand Theft Auto and Tomb Raider. So why are gaming companies moving their offices out of the UK instead of adding more? In a word: taxes. Brutal Gamer reports.

Brits need a Boston Tea Party movement.

You want to throw your video games in the ocean? *gets out swimsuit* :)

No more effing Tea Party movements, please. Look what has happened to America.

well when you're been taxed for everything except breathing, no wonder moving somewhere else sounds more promising.

kaveti66162537d ago

Those taxes are used to fund the high quality, low-cost healthcare.

Business is business. No one cares about where those taxes go and who they benefit (even if it's themselves in the long run). Anything to save money in the immediate future. Plus health care does not have a direct economic benefit on video game sales. That's just one point.

as well as they can't survive making games for the british gaming audience primarily regardless.

They need to make games for the global market and do it wherever they can fine cheap labour. same as any industry.

Karum2537d ago

Yeah, our game developers get no tax breaks really. They were being given one but then it got revoked I think.

Can't expect the top talent in such a large industry to operate out of a place that does them no favours.

It's sad, but at the end of the day if they operate somewhere else and can make great games for me to play, then mission accomplished....even though I do wish they were part of our economy.

naa more like japan, but honestly, gaming companies will go where ever it is best to make games, as long as the make great games i dont give a rats ass where they made it
