Xbox 360's Kinect Selling Out at Best Buy, Amazon, Target and More

Ubisoft's Tony Key predicted to IndustryGamers that Microsoft's Kinect camera would be "sold out a lot." So far, it would appear that Key's right. USA Today has noted that the Kinect sensor peripheral has sold out at numerous retailers. According to the newspaper, Amazon.com and GameStop.com were sold out of the Kinect sensor, but had complete Xbox 360 consoles bundled with the sensor ($300 and up) in stock. And while some brick-and-mortar stores had Kinect systems available, others were sold out by late morning.

so don't you worry your pretty lil head there lil fanboy

zootang2541d ago

Well there is plenty available and not selling on ebay. So it would make you question, is it due to low allocations of stock? Just a bit of sense really.

Need a hug Zootang? Come here big boy. I'll give you some needed cuddles. lol!

It's funny when Move "sold out" it was because so many damn people wanted to get their hands on the uber tech but now that we are talking about Kinect, it's bacause of low allocations of stock. Spin mofo spin! Lmao!

The ps fanboys are getting more desperate / defensive by the day. Like McDonald's slogan, I'M LOVIN IT! :D

If you own a 360 and hate Kinect, you shouldn't. Kinect is getting rid of all the casuals and kiddies on your favorite mp games. You should be seeing less noobs in Black Ops, MOH, and Reach. If you don't own a 360 and hate Kinect, well you have issues!

USA Today has noted that the Kinect sensor peripheral has sold out at numerous retailers.

-A major newspaper reporting "numerous retailers" are sold out usually doesn't make much news if its just do to "low stock" because those retailers wouldn't be saying much if the 3 kinects they had in stock sold in one day.

Target said it experienced "very strong pre-sales" for Kinect, and the retailer did sell out of the Kinect sensor and the 250-gigabyte Xbox 360-Kinect bundle ($400) at its online store.

-"very strong pre-sales" is not the langauge Target would use if they sold out a few kinects at 1 store. lol

"Although Walmart.com and its stores did have Kinect in stock, the leading retail chain warned, "there is going to be very high demand for these products. We will continue to restock throughout the season."

-America's largest retail chain isn't just going to anticipate "very high demand" if the stock they have wasn't selling "very well" throughout their stores across the country.

"We've seen a tremendous amount of excitement and demand for (Kinect) and saw lines at our midnight openings around the country," said Best Buy's Chris Homeister. "We are currently sold out online, but we continue to work with Microsoft to obtain product shipments now and throughout the holiday season."

-Best Buy says flat out that they've "seen a tremendous amount of excitement and demand for (Kinect)and saw lines at our midnight openings around the country," lol, I'm sorry but those comments just don't happen when the retailer knows they have limited supply, it just doesn't make sense for a retailer to say this if its ONLY because of -as you say zootang.."low allocations of stock", lol but you already knew all of this, or you didn't read to make an informed post, all well that wouldn't have mattered either.

I tried this at my friends house yesterday and its fun for a few minutes then you just get bored.my friend was all like i spent $150 on this im returning it.

thenickel2541d ago

Kinect launch games as well as Move really are not geared towards us yet. I consider myself a core gamer anti motion controls until I see games geared my direction.

@scar- Nice avatar.

mrdxpr22541d ago

@thenickel play the shoot that game is pretty good.. there arent many core games for move but the shoot can get pretty adicted for awhile..

Sinner101GR2541d ago

Yeah, still not sure this is going to be a rousing success. The numbers depend on their stock...they could have low-balled it intentionally.

Anon19742541d ago

Yeah, this is meaningless. Is it selling out because it's immensely popular or because each store only got 5 units? We really have no way of knowing. This is similar to those "Kinect so hot all the pre-orders are gone!" articles we've been bombarded with for weeks now. I'm not doubting that some are interested in Kinect, I'd just be interested to see some actual numbers with some other data to compare it to.

The stores near me have plenty of stock, I was at two best buys yesterday and another today just a few minutes ago. Each had 40+ console bundles and 25+ standalone kinects. But at least today I saw someone actually buying not one but two. That is until she got to the cashier ahead of me and found out she needed the consoles as well.

But there were still no Move controllers and only 3 console bundles. Maybe the shortages are only in certain areas?

maniacmayhem2541d ago

the hypocrisy train just keeps on moving.

Bluemaster772541d ago

@ kneon how do you know this for certain , Why would these retailers reveal their inventory to you , a mere pedestrian

kneon2541d ago (Edited 2541d ago )

Because they were sitting there right in front of me in nice symmetrical stacks making it trivial to count them in an instant, 3x4x4 and there are 3 missing so at least 45 in stock.

There may certainly be more in the back but still the Move pile is almost gone and the Kinect pile is huge. The weekend will be the real test, if the piles haven't diminished by Monday then the Kinect hype isn't matching reality. They could very well all be gone by then, but so far I've seen no sales rush on these.

Makidian2541d ago

@kneon

Best Buy, in fact most retailers, don't typically keep a lot of additional stock allocations in the store room. That goes for just about anything they sell, and given the perceived demand for Kinect it's likely that they have all of them on the floor.

HeavenlySnipes2541d ago

Kinect threads here now. I mean yeah we get it, the damn thing is sold out everywhere, jesus.
