Call of Duty Black Ops PS3 version does NOT have Regional Matchmaking

Thanks to a recent twitt of David Vonderhaar the design director for Call of Duty: Black Ops, it has been confirmed that there wont be any regional matchmaking or regional search on the PS3 even though Treyarch and Activision confirmed this feature, and this feature will be exclusive to XBOX 360. All of this has even caused some raged over at the Call of Duty Boards.

Thanks to the confirmation of the same person who iniciated all the trouble David Vonderhaar it has been confirmed that REGIONAL MATCHMAKING for the PS3 is AVAILABLE in BLACK OPS.

Not to sound like a Fanboy. BUT...who cares buy Killzone 3. It`ll be the better game regardless of hype level or marketing and you won`t be supporting Activision which will only benefit the future of gaming.

You might like it more, but that doesn't make it better. They are both good franchises, and both will most likely be good games.

To say "who cares I'll buy a different game" doesn't discount the fact that this is a disappointment for ps3 owners who want lag free games.

If you want the best version of Black Ops, at this point, I'd say pick it up for PC. Dedicated servers + server admins + kick/ban features.

J_Cob2482d ago

and full mod support. Wish I had a Gaming PC lol.

Redrum0592482d ago

I personally like meeting ppl from other regions online.
Those COD guys are just MS fanboys that can't help but not ignore the gigantic and still growing install base of the ps3.

But who can realy blame them, lots of pro-XBOX devs have gone multiplat due to the massive PS3 install base.

Anyways, PS3 owners realy shouldn't get all bent up over this, there are way too many great multiplats and kickass exclusives coming to the ps3 for ppl get all riled up for another yearly rehashed COD game.

I'm still getting the game though.

BulletProofVess2482d ago

how activision conducts business

complete sellouts

even though they have the ability and the knowledge to bring the ps3 a version with all the features
they fall to the pressure of microsoft and the mighty dollar

its one thing bring exclusive dlc to a platform
but a whole other beast when you purposely gimp one version because youve been payed off my microsoft

ReservoirDog3162482d ago

Yeah it might sound like an excuse but it is nice meeting people faraway just for the experience. I met my best friend because a lack of regional matchmaking. Seriously, my life turned for the better cause R6 Vegas allowed two people from across the country to play with each other.

But still, a lot of the features that were really kinda cool aren't in the PS3 version, the version I'm getting. I can't really find myself to care personally but somewhere out there, someone does. Sucks for them.

MasterGuru2482d ago

I'm happy with this feature cos I live in Asia so there's more chances of me getting into a game quickly. For example, if you live in Asia and you own an Xbox 360, the majority of players which lives in North America and Europe will try to block you from joining their game. I actually feel sorry for the Xbox 360 users in Asia now. Buy a PS3 guys. Faster for you to join a game!

shovelface882482d ago

There has to be a reason why this was cut, it could be something to do with the different way the PS3 matchmakes, or something internal at Sony that prevented it from going through.

At this point, who knows, but they are giving literally everything else to PS3 that the 360 gets. It seems odd to exclude such a feature for no reason.

Sparticus_12482d ago

I honestly dont car eof microsoft gives a dozen cookies and a prostitute to the crapbox owners..or even if they give it to the ps3 people..i still wouldnt buy the buy one cod game youve bought them all....

Red_Orange_Juice2482d ago

no dual PSNID login - it's not about the money
no regional matchmaking - it's not about the money

who are you kidding Treyarch?

pixelsword2482d ago

It doesn't matter if regional matchmaking is available or not: the real issue is whether the PS3 will have laggy games or not. IF the PS3 doesn't have laggy games, then all that means is that the PS3 can handle worldwide games without sacrificing quality. If not, THEN you will have to question the dev's reason as to why they did that.

JohnnyBadfinger2482d ago

lets be honest here... if your in the USA you are very unlikely to ever come across a foreign hosted game. Europe chances are still slim...since the PS3 has a massive install base there i doubt it will be a problem.

The feature is really only useful if your Aussie or Kiwi. Our internet due to latency issues is at the best dog shit compared to the rest of the world. I personally have a 100mbps down and 2.5mbps upload connection (which i do pull host with 90% of the time) but even with speeds like that i can hardly get a good connection from Japan... it says its in the green but really its more a light yellow.

However i have once gotten a light green connection to a San Fransisco based host... was tolerable until he quit then i got host.

Kurt Russell2482d ago

I'm taking the OP's advice and getting Killzone whilst swerving the COD franchise.

SJPFTW2482d ago

first of all Vahn confirmed in his twitter that no one said PS3 does not have regional matchmaking

his own words:
"PS3 fans mixing up split-screen with regional matchmaking conversations. Who said PS3 doesn't have regional matchmaking? Original source."

here is your evidence. when Vahn said, "Platform considerations always a tough issue never explained well in 140 characters. People make mistakes. They don't lie." he was replying to the question "So what exactly did the that special PS3 dev team do for us other than Port a title? Havent seen any PS3 perks to the title"

no where was regional matchmaking mentioned or even remotely talked about. the person who asked the question was referring to dual psn logins.

you can go on his twitter and see for youself

also on Josh Olin's twitter he further confirms regional matchmaking is on the ps3. quote: "Not true. PS3 has regional matchmaking just like the 360."

just laughing while reading all these posts. especially Longrod_Von_Hugendon who cancelled his preorder. but seriously who approved this site?

BARF2482d ago

why should activision have to add dual log in to the game??? psn doesnt have dual log in and xbox live does. i would say its more about what psn lacks than microsoft paying them. i would say treyarch and activision support the xbox more because the community for CoD on live is almost double psn.

plenty a tool2482d ago

and the people who agreed with you.

please know what you are talking about before writing. the laws of physics dictate that you WILL GET LAG AND LATENCY if you live in the US for instance, and play against people in the EU or asia!!

nothing, not even dedicated servers, or the almighty PS3 can make it otherwise. people on here talk about the lag free dedicated servers on the pe3, yet i have experienced lag on them. nothing cheats einstein!!

or perhaps it's my 18meg down 1meg up connection that is at fault.

on topic. it's a shame, coz i think this should be a feature of EVERY on-line game. i have nothing against playing against people from other regions, i just prefer to game with people in my own region. for the reasons i mentioned above

Dee_912482d ago

im always playing with eu or asian players on mw2 and it never lag ..

Razmossis2482d ago

As soon as PS3 closes this sales gap on Xbox, we better start getting the extra love and attention the Xbox has been getting all these years. It's bloody ridiculous that you still can't get a game that's the same on both consoles

You should begin all of your posts with "Not to sound like a Fanboy..."

Yeah, Killzone 3 is going to be epic, but so what? It's not the be-all, end-all game.

If Call of Duty fans like COD, then why would they buy a different shooter?

JD_Shadow2482d ago

Because gamers have this knack with actually playing OTHER GAMES! Do COD fans play ONLY COD games, or do they decide to play other things in the downtime?

And why should being a COD fan keep anyone from playing KZ3 or any other shooter> And how do you know that KZ3 WON'T be the be all end all game (not saying it will or won't, but you seem pretty sure of yourself)?

kaveti66162482d ago

Did you also say this to MariaHelFutura? Because it seems to me your post would be better suited as a response to him than as a response to me.

All I said was that COD lovers shouldn't just forget about Black Ops just because KZ3 is coming out next year.

MariaHelFutura2482d ago

Call of Duty is not the be all end all game either.

So your point is?

BTW, If you like COD by all means buy COD. IMO, for alot of reasons that wouldn`t be wise. **IMO**

RememberThe3572482d ago (Edited 2482d ago )

I've had MOH for about a week and a half and the next shooter I buy is going to be Killzone 3. Call of Duty is an Activision franchise, I don't f*ck with Activision.

@below: I believe it's when your connected to people closer to you so that the game runs better.

EDIT: Also it doesn't seem like too many people care. Here's the thread:

EDIT 2: Shit I forgot about Socom. OK the next shooter I buy is either Socom 4 or Killzone 3, which ever comes first.

rdgneoz32482d ago

Get both Socom 4 and KZ3. Ones a TPS and the other is a FPS.

RememberThe3572482d ago

I can't pass on either. I need both.

Death24942482d ago

I agree, I've been passing on Call of Duty since after COD4. It just shows how quick people are to follow the masses so they won't be labeled as an outcast. Sorry but I won't be one of the millions picking this one up. I have a feeling this is going to end up like Guitar Hero or Tony Hawk.

sack_boi2482d ago (Edited 2482d ago )

It matches you up with the person/people closest to you geographically. MW2 X360 already had this and it kept matching me up with people in my town. It was awesome, I'm glad it's back.

hmmmm2482d ago

MW2 didn't always have it and us Aussie's hated playing the game as it would ALWAYS choose an American host and it always lagged.. Back when MW2 launched, if you were lucky enough to get a lobby with an Aussie host, you never left cos you knew your chances of finding another one were pretty low.

Of course it added the feature a few months later so now its a non-issue.

sack_boi2482d ago (Edited 2482d ago )

BS. I got MW2 a week before it was officially released and the game had it already (on the X360).

hmmmm2482d ago it didn't have a setting which you could set to only search for local lobbies, you are wrong. Here's a link confirming it if you need it:

In this interview they say 'There is nothing in there that allows you to say, ‘I don’t want to play with anyone but people from my area’'

They did not add the feature until the update which came out with the first map pack.

If you think it didn't have host issue's when it came out you are clearly from the US....

Can they just make this franchise 360 exclusive, there are better shooters on the PS3

Odin7772482d ago

Ha ha yeah I tend to think of it as a 360 exclusive anyway.
