Splinter Cell Chaos Theory: Best stealth game ever?

CVG:"Chaos Theory begins on a beach. It's dark. You're near blind. And there's no tutorial.Through a cave there's a slim rope bridge and two guys who can kill you with a single burst from their guns. They don't make 'em like this any more.

Times have changed. The best part of Conviction is the moment that all your Marks are in place and in a sudden flurry of action you take down an entire room full of bastards.

It was a beautiful game, too - the first Splinter Cell to be powered by Unreal 2 and a game which genuinely looks brilliant running on a 360 today in full widescreen - but the Unreal 2-powered campaign was only one third of a faultless package."

I love Chaos Theory's multiplayer.

Noone, and I mean noone could beat me and my brother at that game. Spies or mercs, it didn't matter. We kicked your ass to the maximum :D

morganfell2847d ago

The Metal Gear Series tops my list.

I liked the Pandora Tomorrow MP better than CT. The Xbox 1 version Double Agent (the superior version with a non-emo Sam) had exclusive co-op and a versus that kicked ass.

PS360fanboy2847d ago

Troll Police, shame on you for placing MGS2 above MGS1, one of the best video games of all time...

Yi-Long2847d ago

... however it's not perfect.

When you start up the game, you have to sit through a movie you can't click through. Every time. Before you get to the main menu where you can load your save-game.

Gawd, it sucks.

But gameplay-wise, it was an amazing experience. I'm looking forward to the HD remake of the trilogy (hopefully this time you CAN skip through that movie...)

Haven't played Pandorra yet though. Just 2 levels or something. I have all 3 games, but by the time I was starting with Pandorra, CT came out and I played that instead.

pimpmaster2847d ago

ok seriously are you high?!? the list is

and on top of that , in terms OF best STEALTH game mgs isnt anywhere near the top of the list. its a good game but not a good stealth game.

King-Leonidas2846d ago

Not being able to play as Snake for most of them game killed MGS 2 for me IMO.

Metal Gear 1/2/3, Hitman 2/Contracts, Last Gen Splinter Cell games...those were freaking great. It wasn't like today's "stealth" games like MGS4 and Conviction where you got rocket launchers or walk down linear sections with an auto-kill shooting button.

PS360fanboy2847d ago

Last gen SC? AH, cuz this gen is XBox 360 exlusive, I get it pal=)

HolyOrangeCows2847d ago (Edited 2847d ago )

Your other comment (#1.5): "I never played a Splinter Cell game"

Go back to your cave, troll. You even admit to have never have played any of them.
And did your fanboy filter block out my ill words about MGS4?

STONEY42847d ago (Edited 2847d ago )

"Last gen SC? AH, cuz this gen is XBox 360 exlusive, I get it pal=)"

Splinter Cell was on PC too this gen, but Conviction just wasn't anywhere near as good as the other Splinter Cell games. Conviction was basically a linear shooter.

Akagi2847d ago

LOL! Play a real stealth game, kid: Thief: The Dark Project.

PrimordialSoupBase2847d ago

Someone knows good games. Thief and Hitman.

King-Leonidas2846d ago

Kojima invented the stealth genre. Just sayin

ReservoirDog3162847d ago

If you discount the MGS series, then yeah. And even then, MGS is a stealth game (which I love*) but SC CT was a more hardcore stealth game. It fixed every* flaw in the SC series and it still stands up amazingly well nowadays. Was just replacing it. I still think the bank level is one of the best levels in any game.

ReservoirDog3162847d ago

Replaying* not replacing. Stupid iPod touch spell check.

Regardless, SC CT is still great.

PS360fanboy2847d ago

I also love the MGS series but, like you, I never played a Splinter Cell game. And I've always heard that Chaos Theory was, in fact, the best stealth games ever, even to this day. I have to pick it up and check it out for myself.

FanboyPunisher2847d ago (Edited 2847d ago )

if you think so, where is the sound level/light level detection in MSG? Sound isnt very valid, its a ghost image of what SP has, and same with lighting.

MGS is a great game, just isnt as sealthy as splinter cell, simple as that.

Redempteur2846d ago

Sound detection is in the mgs series since the first SOLID game.

If you think that hidding and hidding in the dark are any difféent then continue your rambling ...

bennyace2847d ago (Edited 2847d ago )

Is a good game but it's not that stealthy. I played it all the way thru and the only stealth that I HAD to do was the level where you have to follow a guy in the dark to go meet your mother. The rest of the game you can go guns blazing and still make it. You can't definitely not do that in a Splinter Cell game. Which makes it in my opinion a better stealth game. Not that MSG4 is not good, but not that stealthy in my opinion.

Galaxia2847d ago

Is SC CT really good? I tried to get into this series, played SC1 first. There were so many stupid design choices and stupid things in this game it made me mad.

I have no qualms about playing old games either. I go back and play games I missed from previous gens all the time. Splinter Cell however is one of the worst titles I've ever played.

Please tell me people don't actually like this game, and that SC3 fixed all 9742374902390473279423 flaws the first game had.

ape0072847d ago

one of the best games I've played in my life, total awesomness and pure quality, I can't understand why people keep comparing it with mgs, both games are amazing in thier own way, yep ubi got inspiration from mgs but they invent a new game not "copy and paste" like most developers do, I respect ubi for that, that is what the real talented developer do

looking at conviction, Im kinda disappointed with that game, it's nowhere as deep or as twisty and Chaos theory

gillri2847d ago

I would only put MGS3 as a stealth game, 4 had little stealth and too much actio and cutscenes, 2 and 1 have very simple stealth mechanics and again intersive cut-scene. If stealth is all about gameplay then I wouldnt put 1,2 and 4 as the best stealth game's ever, action games maybe

MGS3 was the only one that had the wealth of options that rivals Splinter cell Chaos Theory

For me Chaos Theory and MGS3 are the best stealth game's ever, Thief 2 was also awesome

Lex Luthor2847d ago

Thank you for having a brain.

Richdad2847d ago

Thats more to the fact, MGS is partly stealth its more story and action driven. Yeah MGS1 was really pushing to stealth back in 99. But MGS is still story & action driven, stealth is secondary. There are boss battles in MGS, stylish moves and dialouge like movies.

While in SC you will never find anything like that. Even the main target (boss) will drop in one shot, he is mere human. Chaos Theory lacks in style and story elements but here stealth is primary element. Play it to see for yourself. You cant directly compare MGS series with SC.

ape0072847d ago (Edited 2847d ago )

I agree Mgs 3 and choas theory FTW, they are the best in thier series

when I compare these 2 with mgs 4 and conviction, I feel a bit bitter taste in my mouth, don't get me wrong, both of them are good but not as good as thier past games espicially if u look at the quantity and quality of both of these games

Redempteur2846d ago

MGs4 CAN BE A STEALTH GAME just have the option of not playing it as a stealth game that's all

coolbeans2847d ago

When it comes to overall gameplay and overhaul they made in Chaos Theory, yes it's the best stealth game imo. However, I still need to play the first two Thief games.

blackburn52847d ago (Edited 2847d ago )

SCC had extremely dumb AI, so no not the best by a long shot. How come no Batman:AA though? Best stealth ever after MGS series. Sorry my mistake. forgot SCC was the last game. Never played SCCT so don't know. But what I said about SCC having dumb AI and them leaving out Batman :AA still stands

Akagi2847d ago

AA has yet to stand the test of time.
