You've heard about it, now watch the first leaked video from Games Convention which details the functionality of the newly announced Play TV service for the PS3.
It looks simple and sophisticated. My only complain is why isnt this coming to NA? i wouldl ove to watch my favorite tv shows at uni win between classes with my psp while my ps3 records them at home
were just no wired for it here, when we get our act together theyll bring it
yeah they gotta bring it to the states............. but at least its another reason to buy for other countries, looks really good
By Feburary 2009 the US abondoning Analog TV to move to digital, is there someone here that can explain more since I dont know how to explain it??
wow...too bad no US rls
but I don't expect it until atleast 2009. :(
I bet it will come to the US someday. Go on xbots and say it...... Wait Beyond. **rolls eyes** Wow the PSP thing is really cool!
I WANT THIS NOW!!!!!!
i want this. im in the UK so we will get it first. thank you sony.
That's really sick.
Few problems: You need to buy again something extra to view. So the headset isn't included, HD cables aren't included, pay extra for the TV stuff. The 360 can do IPTV out of the box, just with a software update. Sony did copy the plans of MS again for having IPTV? Plus, this is DVB-T and antenna use... Free channels otherwise you need to pay for decoders. I'd rather pick IPTV @ that douche below Dude, MS is the first to get real TV on a console, in a way it is usefull. Sony just has a defense build up by following the marketleader MS in this. They know they can't stay behind and thats why they put it in. Although their solution is less in quality then MS's IPTV and you have to pay extra for the device on top of the PS3!
what a tit you are! sony copied MS huh?? what about digital tv and sky tv which we've had in the uk for over 10 years! guess they must of copied MS to? MS invented TV after all didnt they douche! oh and where exactly is this sony inspiring IPTV?? no where, plus your probably in the us soooo theres pretty much no chance of you getting either as it takes years to aquire the licenses needed, thats what sonys been doing for ages rather than just saying 'oh yeah we got IPTV.... aint ever coming out tho....!' you nub, go back to you 360... the amount of MS brain washed fan boys jumping on this shows that you'd like to have it to! edit: how is it a copy? sony's runs on digital tv and BskyB media like all tv's soon will in the uk and europe, your phantom IPTV is streamed over the internet! and you comment about cost, right ill buy this box once and it will work forever, you'll have to pay for your xbox live account for ever if you want the feature! and with the intergration of this on the psp i cant see how this is a copy! everyone copies everyone, MS didnt come up with tv did they, or the first operating system, huh, well wouldnt that mean MS copied someone? edit 2: nice to see some people who actually know what they are talking about backing me up, this is a great for sony in making the ps3 a true media centre, and all this copying stuff.... how the hell do you copy something that doesnt exsist??
TheMART has a valid point there.
Freeview is far better than IPTV imo. What happens if you don't have an internet connection or if it's really slow? With this you can record 2 channels at once but you have to watch one of them you are recording. I already have a DVR and this is rather good how they are bringing it to the PS3.
I work at FICORA(Finnish Communications Regulatory Authorithy) And we control all broadcasts in the nation and etc.. Our whole country is transfering to the digital TV standard 31.8.2007 which is at the end of this week. You dont have a clue how DVB-C and DVB-T or even DVB-H works, so please keep your fanboy comments to your self. Personally i think this adds great value to the ps3.
Few Problems: To get MS IPTV you haver to go through Live, which you have to pay for year on year. Sony's solution (which is nothing to do with IPTV) requires a one off payment, for access to a hundred channels (increasing all the time) for free. You can watch on demand, i.e you don't have wait for downloading, and streaming isn't an option in the UK cause the majority of the country can't get better than about 2.5mb connection speed (I am personally stuck at 1.5mb). IPTV was a tech demo, and is as of yet an unproven technology. Digital Freeview (which is what this is with built in DVR) is beign used be thousands of people evry day, and is already imensly popular. This is a very smart move on Sony's part, and at least in Europe, will be insurmounatbly more useful than IPTV ever will.
Didn't you have to buy and Hd dvd add on. Plus pay for Live. Seems to me that his is a good deal. Can't wait. Mart why do you hate so much. Dude your a total fanboy zombie.
The box decodes digital tv from an areal you muppet, iptv tv is hightly compressed poor quality tv over the internet like youtube which ps3 can also do with with a software update. any other retarded comments or are we done for today?
theMart still blowing his load on his 360
How does this guy have 5 bubbles.... the xgirls must be feeding him bubbles cuz I don't get it.. Every time I read one of your comments i think your younger and younger, going off of your comments in general I think your about 9 years old... probably look like this dude...
to run IPTV, you NEED to upgrade your net line. AT&T is the only current company onboard with this service for 360, and they're trying/claiming that they can get up to 34 mb/s thru their DSL lines. Even at that, you're gonna be paying through the roof for that service. On top of that, their service (Lightspeed) isn't even close to being WIDELY available nationwide. not dissing, just stating facts that you don't seem to know. GOOGLE is your friend.
I think it's great what Sony is doing... never the less not as impressive as Microsoft IP tv where multiple shows can be recorded at the sametime... and picture in picture preview of the browsing channels can be seing... not to mention more channels.... So, European PS3 owners only can be happy about this new PS3 feature... but don't dare to try to use this to flame the xbox 360.
i read somewhere that they are already trying to make recording multiple channels possible, im sure if it doesnt do it on release it'll only be fireware update or 2 away! all this stuff about IPTV, as it stands that was still simply a tech demo, this actually works and is actually being released! nice to see europe coming first for once!
Man i hope this is home integrated. it will look sweet on my virtual sony bravia
on IPtv, but kudos to sony, another thing the PS3 can do, but are gamers gonna buy the eXtra cables and accessories to watch?, well I do not know? some people already have DVRs and such... Anyhow there is a lot of things being announced these days...the games are most important. These little additions are not system sellers. They just add to the experience.
for one IPTV is just a tech demo, it doenst actually fuction or work yet! and which extra cables are these exactly, im asking as you obviously seem to know how this connects to the ps3! and if you dont its via ethernet cable.... ooooh thats the whole of about £2... big spender. the only people who should be worried about cable issues are xbox owners as 99.9 of the consoles sold dont even have a HDMI connection!
Ummm....We already have IPTV service being broadcast in tv here on Singapore. And it is much more cheaper than cable TV. All the channels are streamed in HD (u got anything to say Jimboo?). BTW, MS IPTV looks and operates way better than PlayTV. Who will bother to buy all those 'extra' stuff just to get a bunch of channels? Definitely not me!
that's irrelevant. you pay less for cable/dsl outside of US. proof? here ya go: http://www.newnetworks.com/... btw, i found that out with a second of GOOGLING. Learn to use it ppl, 360 fan or PS3 fan. in my area, 3-5-10mb/s = $40/50/70, so how much do you figure it's gonna cost you to subscribe to that service?
That's so much better than the IPTV thing.
You all make me laugh saying iptv this and that, if any of you were actually from the uk or one of the other countrys this service is coming to originally, you would understand digital tv. (freeview as its called in the uk) Is massive most people have a sky/vigin service then will have a freeview box in there room or just freeview if they dont wanna pay the extra for sky. Ask people what IPTV is in uk and yourll get a resounding What? Ask them what freeview is and they will know, the fact that the uk is switching over to digital so everyone will be required to have freeview or sky/virgin means this is a great move for sony and comparing to iptv is laughable. For a start here in the uk our internet connections are alright but there not great, most people have a couple of mb/s. 2nd as ive already stated freeview is massive everyone knows what it is and it will be required in a few years time so this is a huge selling point in the uk definitly and the bit with the psp is just the cherry on the top.
everything you said in there is true. until this post i didnt know what iptv was (still dont really) and i'm one of those people who hasnt got freeview so this is a must buy for me.
I want PS3 Play TV. It looks so awesome.
thats good for me because i only have one hdmi on my tv so the ps3 can function as my freeview and console all one hdmi because the components are sh1te compared to hdmi
in the same spot as you, ive got 2 one for ps3 and one for my HD-DVD player. not sure about the component bit tho, i see no difference at all and im sure there are about a million people who use them everyday in the music industry that will agree with me! the only issue with component is range, it losses quality after around 100 metres where as hdmi doenst!
Is my mind playing tricks or are europe getting something before the States? I dont believe it
And this... is why I effin Love Sony...
