IGN reviews Warhawk, scores 8.8

How do you know when you've got something special on your hands? It could be what happens when you take the power of a new console to make a spiritual successor to an earlier title, using the hardware to accomplish things that weren't possible years before. Maybe it becomes apparent when you can completely change the primary focus of a title and discover that the redesign is much stronger than the original concept. Or perhaps it's the new concept that generates and sustains momentum for your product by itself. In the case of Warhawk, all of the above definitely apply.

they say "steep learning curve" like it's a bad thing. That's what rocks about this game. It's like when you first start CounterStrike and everyone whoops you, it gives you a reason to improve. I can't wait til I'm a pro flying around. It may take me a year, but I'll get there damnit! :D

Although I think Warhawk is a great game and deserves the good reviews, this game is sort of the anti-Wii. Due to Warhawk's learning curve, its a rather exclusive gaming experience. Grandmothers need not apply.

Don't think we'll be seeing Warhawk in the nursing homes anytimes soon. The complexity would probably give some of the residents strokes.

Which is funny tab, BEcause the average 8.5 score this has received is much closer to 6.5 that psm gave it then the 9's given few and far between.

And last i checked, in all the AA reviews they cite the same reasons psm gave it a 6.5.

I remember Shadowrun was bashed on by critics because of the lack of multiplayer maps and gametypes and this game has less content than Shadowrun. Go figure...

Was shadowrun was advertised as somehting much moe than what it was and the main factor of online only games gameplay was lackluster. Believe it or not warhawk has more gametypes and (listen well) DIFFERENT maps unlike shadowrun so its no wonder it had a better score.

The blu ray comment was like saying that you dont need dvd nine since all titles in xboxlive arcade wouldnt fill one :)

I'm tired of hearing the similarities of warhawk, and shadowrun, when there are none. Warhawk has 25 maps, shadowrun has 8. Warhawk is similar to bf2, shadowrun is similar to Counter Strike, warhawk is a tps, shadowrun is a fps, one is an excellent game, another is average. They are completely different games, and quality of the games are different aswell.

Based on these definitions AAA has nothing to do with how many 9+'s it gets.

Warhawk is an excellent game that is FUN (FUN= better than AAA). If you haven't had a chance to enjoy it, go over a friends or pick a copy. It may surprise you.

The difference is there isnt a multiplayer only (besides mmorpgs that in a sense include singleplayer since you dont have to interact with other players) game that has ever scored in the 9 and 10s while there have been many singleplayers only games that have.

You know whats funny? After you play this game these reviews mean basically nothing. It is by far the most immersive online game on ANY console. It literally defines what an online experience SHOULD be. I can tell you right now other online games WILL be measured by the Warhawk yardstick.

Do you want to play a game where there is all out war?
Do you want to play a game with beautifully balanced gameplay?
Do you want to play a game with open environments and yet feel as though you can engage someone at any time?
Do you want to blow tons of sh!t up?
Do you want to be in awe at the massive scale of warfare going on around you?
Do you want to have a choice to fly, drive, or go on foot and still feel satisfied with any of the choices you make?

If you answered yes to any or all of these questions then you have to own warhawk. I give it a 9.3/10 but by all means dont take my word for it.

Your out of luck. There will be no 360 killer games on the PS3. I just bought a PS3, tried every single demo download, got the "1080p" LCD HDTV and HDMI cable like PS3 Fanboy President Maddens_Raiders suggested and still see nothing that blows the 360 out of the water. Nothing that says twice as powerful as a 360. Nothing that backs up Ken Kutaragi's claim that the 360 is really the Xbox 1.5, nothing that justifys the MSRP, nothing that delivers 120FPS 1080P 4D games, and nothing that justifies the need for Blu-Ray.

On a brighter note Warhawk is a good online game. Just not the 360 killer Maddens_Raiders was hoping for. PS360 is the way to go.

many people here are contemplating on what defines a AAA title. It seems that title/ranking is being used too commonly nowadays. Some say it's a game which has been rated (averaged) above 9. Some used to say the AAA rating is above 9.5. I don't think this should be the case. I mean, why should we have to define the rating of a game solely on a few "critics" just because they get a pay check for their opinion?

So since there is no OFFICIAL definition on what makes a triple A title, Fact (there is no official definition), I usually determine a games ranking by a few factors. What everyday gamers say, how much the game sales, and, to a certain degree, what critics say (they technically are gamers too).

BTW: From what I read (critics and gamers), this game could be a Triple A title. I know I may get some disagrees, mostly from Boxers who don't want to acknowledge that the PS3 has great games. But If this game is fun, if gamers play Warhawk (Wowhawk i guess it's now called :P) months after it's release, and if this game sales millions, then this is a AAA title. My humble opinion of course.

Regarding the AAA issue it's all subjective and to your average gamer it means nothing, people stating it must score 9 out of ten or 90%+ and stating this as a fact is purely speculation on there part.
There isn't a definition for triple A, to me it's all subjective i love R6 Vegas and play it most nights thats what gaming is all about so to me it's a triple A title.
My definition of triple A would be getting your moneys worth, having fun playing it and the game having long term appeal.

Subjective opinion thats all it is, it's great some games are critically acclaimed by so called industry experts after all we all share the same love for gaming. However we all like different things and gaming is no exception, Warhawk is a system seller, i think it will sell very well and will be supported with added content for a good few years.

Everyone who has actually "played" it loves it, i myself can't get hold of it until tomorrow so have no hands on experience of it but as soon as it appears on the UK PSN i will be downloading it.

Is it an AAA title, i'll let you know if i think it is when i have played it as i judge a game on it's merits and what i think of it.

From what I understand and please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, if you download it, other users on the same PS3 can not play the game without playing it on the account it was downloading on. The retail doesn't have this issue.

Plus you get the headset.
And a Blu-ray disk that isn't even 1% full.... That to me is so worth it. :)

i dled the game earlier, what a great game. even without single player its really fun. it took me a while to get good at operating the warhawk, but once i got the hang of it i was getting top scores in the matches.

Read all the reviews for PS3 games that are listed on the front page as of 11:17 PST for Heavenly sword and Warhawk. All mid to high 8's with a couple of 9's as secondary reviews.

The definition of AAA is pretty simple. Don't know why your having problems explaining it. But it's a game that unanimously gets high marks: atleast a 9. A game that averages atleast 90% from all reviews. Games like Gears of War, Bioshock, Oblivion, God of War 2...these games are AAA titles. There are MILLIONS of games that average 8. Those are great games...but AAA it is not.

As a jaded PC gamer, I'm an extremely impressed with this game. While there are PC games like the Battlefield series that offer more scale and depth, there simply isn't anything out there in the console world that come close to what Warhawk can do. The scale of the map and beauty of the deadly skies filled with flak, missles and buzzing jets while the battle rages below is truely a sight unseen.

But what amazes me most is the network performance. Its totally flawless. Despite all the chaos in the air all hell breaking loose below, I did not experience a single second of lag in a packed 32 player game. How the hell is this possible?

Right now Warhawk is one of the kind in the console world. There isn't anything out there thats even close, and if Microsoft have any brains at all they should give their Crimson Sky franchise the Warhawk treatment.

Not the reviewers. If all the gamers spend their time on Tetris - then it is a AAA title - even if the reviewers give it a 2. If the reviewers give it a 11, and you spend 5 minutes on it - never to touch it again - same as the rest of the gamers - then it is not a AAA title - regardless of what the reviewer thinks. Simply put - Gran Turismo is a AAA title. Great quality, great attachment from players.

Warhawk was already a AAA title decided by players online during the Beta. No review is going to change it. Paid for reviews or stupids or fanboys or haters. The people enjoying the game decide if it is AAA or not.
