Adult Themed Games on Consoles Are Closer Than You Imagine

"The debate is raised on what seems like an annual basis as to whether or not adult themed games, and in particular, sexually charged games will ever be suitable on home consoles. The usual argument against the idea appears to be that conservatives think the games will easily get into the hands of children and provide young gamers with easily accessible pornography. Of course it’s always a possibility that games with get into the hands of consumers they are not suited for, but typically the ESRB’s ranking system prevents such things from happening."

I have the internet and it's not 1980. Who needs adult games. Or porn ones I mean?

vgn242919d ago

I know I'll catch some grief for this, but why not? We have games where we can strangle people to death from behind (Man hunt). So why not some virtual banging on the PS3? Now of course it should have a purpose in the game and not just be "perved out".

sikbeta2919d ago

Gaming Grows up with me, I'm an adult, there is no problem, that's why they can rate [M+] and make kiddie crap and rate [E]...

Sharingan_no_Kakashi2919d ago

It WILL be perved out. That's the whole point. They can disguise it as "Adult" content all they want but we all know the purpose is perverse which quite frankly is immature. Personally I dont see the attraction but there are lots of weir... uh "different" people out there. Some of those ppl might enjoy watching two sets of polygons go at it. =/

ryuzu2919d ago (Edited 2919d ago )

Because consoles lack the graphics, interaction tools and audience to do those things justice. The examples of "adult themed" (in fact they mean sex-based) gaming are largely laughable and utterly joyless because the computer is not able to provide a convincing experience. It's like simulations of anything from cars to planes to guns - the difference is very few people get to drive cars at a track, fly a plane and trek around a warzone.

Everyone understands sex (even if you've not engaged in a sexual relationship) because it's a part of our biology - so the simulation has to be very accurate otherwise we simply reject it, as has been the case with simulated sex games/software to date.

The original Leisure Suit Larry games are the only ones which have dealt with certain sexual situations in anything approaching a credible way and they only managed that because they used the sexual content as the basis for humor rather than titillation.

Well at least I won't have to swap out my disks to put in the porn ones.

This will never happen in the US because Americans are prudes.

ryuzu2919d ago (Edited 2919d ago )

Well the US is the biggest producer of pornography....

The fact is, a significant portion of American people are superstitious, obsessed with death cults like christianity, judaism or islam, and have convinced themselves that death and violence are acceptable, while other, non violent and individual acts are in some way abhorrent.

I wouldn't use the term prude - indoctrinated may be, or just misguided, but not prudish.

rwarner1742919d ago

We are so obsessed with death that many of our own people have died defending countries like the United Kingdom, France, Canada, etc... I am an American conservative athiest who has no problem with the human body and yet with all my heart I tell you to go fuck yourself you arrogant little cuntbags! Take a look at the riots going on in France if you want to see indoctrinated.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi2919d ago

did you just call Christianity a cult? Sorry if this sounds rude but dictionaries are a dime a dozen. A word a day can go a long way. While 2/3 of America claims to be Christian the media and schools are overwhelmingly secular. If we are indoctrinated it's definately not by Christians. Otherwise Creation would be taught over evolution.

FragMnTagM2919d ago

I agree with you, but you forget to mention that in recent polls over half of Americans, I think it was like 68% are "Christian." I myself don't like to be labeled, and if anything, I would label myself a skeptic.

Obviously there is a large part our country that is still pro- Christian. So we are indeed indoctrinated, not all, just the majority. Maybe not in ALL schools, but there are a ton of religion based schools that I personally believe should be done away with. It is an insult to all the real teachers out there that care to teach, inspire, support creativity, and so forth instead of having a hidden agenda of recruiting them into the religion.

Personally, I would love for science in school be taught as a primary subject and not a secondary one. When we are teaching our really young ones ABC's and 123's we should also be teaching them about atoms and molecules and the periodic table of elements. They may not get it, but I am sure that when they get to high school, science would be a lot easier and maybe even a hell of a lot more interesting with the kids already knowing the basics.

On topic: If this did happen, would it be motion capped? Imagine the applicants for that job...

Sharingan_no_Kakashi2919d ago

"you forget to mention that in recent polls over half of Americans, I think it was like 68% are "Christian."

No I didn't. Please reread my comment.

"Obviously there is a large part our country that is still pro- Christian. So we are indeed indoctrinated, not all, just the majority"

Being a Christian doesn't mean being indoctrinated. Being indoctrinated means being forced to believe something or only being taught what others want you to believe. Evolution goes unchallenged in public schools as truth and in many states it is illegal to teach that evolution might not be true. THAT is indoctrination.

"Maybe not in ALL schools, but there are a ton of religion based schools that I personally believe should be done away with. It is an insult to all the real teachers out there that care to teach, inspire, support creativity, and so forth instead of having a hidden agenda of recruiting them into the religion."

Now you're being a hypocrite. I personally see it as an insult to say that a person can't be a Christian AND a real teacher at the same time. It has been documented that people who attend private Christian schools excel above state average in language, science, and math (as do all private school students) so I'm not really sure why you feel they should be done away with. Furthermore, it can only be considered a "hidden agenda" if the agenda is actually hidden. But as their names imply, Christian schools are for teaching Christian values.

jjank112919d ago

@exgamer..
I do have to say that most christians are indoctrinated, starting at a very young age when they basically have no choice or developed enough to make cetain choices in life, so they are just forced fed the bible and many other things. Sure enough, the church can be a good place to go because there are many good ideals taught through the bible.
The fact that evolution is taught throughout schools is because it is a scientific theory that is being taught in a science class. Do people not understand this? Its the same for creation, which is a religious theory (or shall I say, story)

Also, the reason as to why private and christian schools end up producing better results is because a lower teacher to student ratio, for the most part, and thus more time to learn and move at their own pace. Also, it has been shown that students in private and christian schools also have more stable home life, which contributes to a students well being. The same can certainly not be said about public school where things are forced fed down kids throats at a certain pace and if they can't keep up, they eventually will do bad. Plus, public schools tend to focus more on extracurricular activities, like sports.

dirtydbz2919d ago

way to go ryuzu ( I love to see christians get butthurt the fact of the matter is that christianity was a cult turned mainstream religion by indoctrination)
eventually if the human species pushes hard enough we will be able to answer the questions
that most have relied on faith and religion to answer throughout the ages.

regardless of solid proof some fundamental christians don't believe the dinosaurs walked the earth
I know this because my brother went to a christian private school for a bit
it's funny how sometimes belief can trump proof ( it's how wars start people)

A lot of Americans died defending Canada? Are you talking about either of the World Wars, or the current 'War on Terror?'

Many Canadians have died in both World Wars, which, in both cases, Canada entered long before the United States. Some Canadians chose to serve in Vietnam. And as for the War on Terror, Canadians have died in Afghanistan as part of the NATO forces. Canadians have died to preserve and defend peace when called upon as well. We share a continent. We defend each other (and enjoy having a laugh at each others' expense every once in a while.)

On-topic: Why haven't we had Adult videogames yet? There's something wrong with the fact that graphic scenes of violence are permitted in gaming, but sexual imagery is so taboo.

I say bring it on. If there's a market for it, people will buy it. Why not allow adult gamers who want that experience to have it?

Sharingan_no_Kakashi2919d ago

"I do have to say that most christians are indoctrinated,"

I didn't realize you KNEW most Christians.

"starting at a very young age when they basically have no choice or developed enough to make cetain choices in life, so they are just forced fed the bible and many other things."

I was raised at home to be a Christian and force fed at school to be an evolutuionist. It wasn't until the tenth grade actually that I realized that the two stories don't mix. And thus I had to choose one. You can't just say that most Christians are only Christians because they were forced to be because they also have evolution forced on them. Furthermore, it has beeen documented that 20% of Christians loose their faith after their first year of college. Not to mention the numerous people who weren't taught Christianity at home who became Christians later on in life.

"The fact that evolution is taught throughout schools is because it is a scientific theory that is being taught in a science class."

As a person who has studied the topic extensively I can say that is false. In order for something to be considered science it has to be observable testable and repeatable in a scientific lab. Evolution is neither of those things. If it did happen it happened before humans got here so no one observed it. You cannot repeat a 13 billion year process in a lab and thus it cannot be tested.

"Do people not understand this?"

That's hardly the issue. The issue is that our science classes don't teach critical thinking. And we wonder why we are behind every other country in science classes. I believe it was an Asian evolutionist who said that in China you can question Darwin but not the government. In America you can question the government but not Darwin.

"Its the same for creation, which is a religious theory (or shall I say, story)"

Creation is much more than a story. Design is observed all over the place. Design demands a designer. Even if you'd never read a history book, if you'd seen mount rushmore you would know it was not the product of erosion. There is simply too much complex design. Yet the human body is infinately more complex and has more design than mount rushmore and people say it is the product of random chance processes. The logic does not follow.

"Also, the reason as to why private and christian schools end up producing better results is because a lower teacher to student ratio, for the most part, and thus more time to learn and move at their own pace."

The reasons are irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that private Christian schools produce intelligent students. I fail to see how (as frag says) they are an insult to teachers.

dirtydbz2919d ago

see this is why religion should never be discused because some one is going to pick it appart
and of course someone is going to defend said belief's

your same designer made me attracted to women while other men are attracted to men
same goes for women to women and women and men
that being said why would christians ( who believe christ died for everyons sin's ) fight gay marraige
tooth and nail
we live in a country where marraige is more than a religous bond it helps protect property and family issues that a domestic partnership just doesn't cover

how does that designer alienate creatures he himself designed ?

Everyone read the article on Special ops and the so called 'need' to tone down some of the death animations. I've read quotes from Ed Boon about Mk9 talking about not wanting to go so far as to get an AO rating. We just aren't there yet. M rated games, while not FOR children, are certainly made with children in mind. I see minor jumps with some of the games listed at the bottom. God of War also comes to mind but it's all very softcore. I truly believe we will need a game that earns an AO rating based only on violence before we can have an AO rated game that contains actual sex. Unfortunately at this time, no company has the balls to do so. It is my dream to make the first AO rated game, not with sex but with violence, time will tell.
