The interest in Wii is waning

98 percent of Wii owners never buy anything other than the console.

"Since last year, sales of Wii hardware, games and accessories declined by 40 percent. At first we were worried and thought it was us who did something wrong, but it has proved to be a general decline, "says Jacob Risgaard, director of Coolshop.dk to ComON.

I, like alot of people bought it for the novelty first! played some Wii Sports. then slowly realised that due to its pathetic Graphics capability, fun little party games is all its good for I was never going to enjoy using the Controller to play Call of Duty seriously, even tho using the Wii remote felt great for FPS. Add to this the fact that the internet etc and Streaming bbc iplayer just doesnt work and the menus suck! mine is gathering dust and hasnt been touched for a long long time. ffs Nintendo, if your Wii had the GPU and decent HD support of an Xbox you would have stormed it!.

ozstar2890d ago (Edited 2890d ago )

So is that why Sony is a take over target for Apple, and Nintendo is profiting more than they ever have in their entire history?

Yep, that Wii was clearly a HUGE mistake!!

dannybohy2890d ago

doesnt change the fact the System has only and will only reach a fraction of the audience it would of gained if the GPU had been up to date, which was my point

AWBrawler2889d ago

Well the Gamecube sold roughly 22 million and the wii is aproaching 75 million, I'd say they hit all their target and then some! heck the NES topped out at 60 Million

dannybohy2889d ago

like i said, imagine what it would of sold if it hadnt been made for women and 8yrs olds. Why do they always skimp on the GPU! ive never owned a Nintendo before the Wii for that reason, only got this for my wife.

na-no-nai2890d ago

that funny cuz i remember the wii selling more than both the xbox360 and ps3 so that make your point irrelevant

gumgum992890d ago

Does anyone even bother to check out the games coming out anymore, or is this just a statement from a gamer who can't find his shooter fix on Nintendo consoles?

dannybohy2890d ago

no i dont check them out any more, I wont buy a Wii title again

na-no-nai2890d ago

that funny i hardly see anything on the xbox360 and ps3 that is worth buying.

ChickeyCantor2889d ago

If thats your statement, they why even bother ranting about it?
Seems like you left a wii-mote ...you know what nvm.

dannybohy2889d ago

Ive obviously upset some 8 yrs olds! sorry little fellas

Seferoth752890d ago

98% buy nothing but the console? I guess that is why Nintendo games usually dominate the top 10.

Mnemonic-DK2890d ago (Edited 2890d ago )

Coming from the largest *online* shop in Denmark may affect the percentage somewhat, as I can imagine someone buying the console online, and then additional games in retail.

But coolshop.dk also has a large part of the online market for games, and if they have seen a 40% overall decline in sales since last year, that is significant.

Seferoth752889d ago

Seriously stop trying to justify this in any way.

5 minutes of something we call research would show you how wrong you are.

Oh nm Mahr pretty much owned that ass and all you could do was make more excuses to justify your lies rather than just admitting you were wrong..

But hey all the world is wrong and some unknown store that accounts for very little is 100% fact.. Sorry but the fact you are acting that way is not only pathetic it just shows that you care nothing for the truth only throwing hate out at a piece of plastic for not carrying your preferred companies name

My interest in the Wii's successor is growing!

Mahr2889d ago

"I've seen a U.S. study showed that a PS3 player buys six games a year. In comparison, buying a Wii owner, on average, only one game throughout the console's lifespan"

Er, no. Most recent worldwide figures put the PS3 lifetime tie ratio at an average of 8.1 games per owner. Wii at 7.7.

http://www.playstationunive...

"It fits very well with our figures"

Yes, imaginary studies made up on the spot to make one's own conclusion look more credible often do that.

Mnemonic-DK2889d ago

Personally, I think that the high attach rates are due to bundled software that are counted as an individual sw sale by tracking services, but not by this online store.
That would certainly explain a bit of the 98% figure.

"Yes, imaginary studies made up on the spot to make one's own conclusion look more credible often do that."

I know that the translation by Google is problematic at best, but it is actually the owner of the store who concludes that the numbers are matching up - And I guess that he actually know the numbers from his store better than you do...

The really interesting thing is if this trend is a local phenomenon or if it is a general worldwide trend.

Mahr2889d ago (Edited 2889d ago )

"Personally, I think that the high attach rates are due to bundled software that are counted as an individual sw sale by tracking services"

Tracking services (at least NPD, Chart-track, and Media-create, which account for the vast majority of the tracking in the link above) do not count hardware bundles as software for precisely the reason you think they should be discounted.

"I know that the translation by Google is problematic at best, but it is actually the owner of the store who concludes that the numbers are matching up"

I never said otherwise. I am saying that when the store owner says 'I read a specific study that says the US tie ratio is 1 game!' that he is making that study up in order to make his store's numbers look like the norm, when in fact the worldwide tie ratio (and in fact, every single published US tie ratio over the past four years) indicates that they are very, very much an outlier, as I posted above.
