GameSpy's Lair Hands-on: Good Candidate To Show off PS3's Potential

Lair puts a lot of emphasis on its deep and twisted storyline, that unravels as you proceed, mission after mission, through 15 action-packed levels. Eggebrecht promises the game will deliver a 10-15 hour single-player campaign, with many more hours required to get all the gold medals (sounds like Rogue Leader, doesn't it?) used to unlock the extras that fill the Blu-Ray disc. There'll be concept galleries, a "Making of..." featurette, production galleries, trailers, a concert hall to listen to the game's themes and many more. With its over-the-top graphics and a solid story-driven campaign, Lair seems to be a good candidate to show off the PS3's (as well as the Sixaxis controller's) potential.

Such an epic and beautiful game running in 1080p at 30 frames per second is serious technical achievement. No matter what reviewers say, this game will rock.

resistance1003528d ago (Edited 3528d ago )

Agreed, Such as stunning looking game saying that all the 1st party games on PS3 are stunning.(except warhawk but its online so to be expected)

Edit - hmm i wonder who disagreed? I don't think anyone can say that Lair, heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drakes fortune and Ratchet and Clank aren't visually great looking

MK_Red3528d ago

I completely agree. And all of these stunners are coming this year!!

Heavenly Sword: Stunning animations and cinemas plus epic battles.
Lair: New definition for "epic". Great Sixaxis controls and a visual feat.
Uncharted: Lush Jungle and nature visuals, It's a Naughty Dog game.
Ratchet & Clank Future TOD: Pixar quality visuals and unmatched arsenal of weapons. (Groovatron FTW!)

360 has also great line-ups for this year. Wii also has a decent among of great games for 2008 but it's not getting the superb multiplatfrom games like Assassin's Creed, Rock Band, Call Of Duty 4 and more.

You guys are really into it!

I think you got a little "Dragon juice" on your chins there

Ju3527d ago

I totally agree. As much as I like KZ2 and what Guerillia is doing with that game, running 1080p with full 30fps and this high level of details and depth (number of enemies, eg.) is pretty on par with them, IMO. Both games will set standards for the future.
I'm curious if they'll use (license?) the Lair engine for other stuff. I think its a perfect candidate for huge open world scenarios. Its kind'a HS++, IMO.

I've learnt not to listen to reviews anymore, no matter if it's a low or high score. If the game interests me, then im getting it and from day one this game interested me. I've played an early build of this game when it was at 30% and it really blew me away. Unlike other reviews, i loved the sixaxis controls. The complete freedon of flight, it feels so fresh and new to fly something just with hand movement. And the graphics were stunning.

Much like warhawk, reviewers can say what they want, but the gamers who've played the game seem to love it. I think at the end of the day reviewers speak for the hardcore audience. Most people don't care about lack of online or whatever. At the end of the day, if it's fun then its good in my books

So more devs utilising the space on the disc but throwing in garbage no one needs, wow simply amazing.

And this game could EASILY be done on the Xbox 360 but even better and cheaper...

Its a good thing the DVD9 the 360 uses actually has developers use the space for GAME content rather than nonsense like ridiculous minor unlockables.

Only 10-15hrs long is also interesting...Wow all that 25gb of data and only 10-15hrs of gameplay? Sounds like Heavenly Sword is not alone in the department of shoddy development and useless use of space...*Rolls eyes* Who's next?

The PS3 has NO AAA titles this year but I have ordered Lair but will probably trade it in after about 30mins of play looks boring and very repetitive.

Now looking at Bioshock which clearly states ONLY on PC and Xbox 360 on the regular cover that game lasts around 20hrs has got around 9/10 and 10/10 reviews, looks stunning and the gameplay is fantastic I just completed it yesterday and wow fits on 1 DVD amazing.

resistance1003528d ago

So you've moved from the PS euro forum to N4G i see lol

Ignore troll above

spammy_nooo3528d ago

wow guy.

im so tempted to post back in the same format with counterpoints but im stopping myself cuz i dont wanna lose a bubble for online-murder ;)

Ju3527d ago (Edited 3527d ago )

Ever seen a non shooter getting 10/10 ? I can't recall. Shooters should get 2 extra points, like 10/12. It seems like all reviewers are hard core gamers and 90% of their portfolio is shooters...pretty sad, IMO.

BTW: I think that RB6V for the 360 can be considered a AAA title, right? Well, I was thru with it over the weekend. So why is that a AAA title, then ? (Yeah, now you'll say multiplayer, so what, doesn't interest me).

resistance1003527d ago

Gran Turismo1 and SM64 are both 10/10 games

pilotpistolpete3527d ago (Edited 3527d ago )

Do you ever get tired of trolling? I mean, do you sit around the ps3 section and just wait for a new news post so you can write your "sophisticated" editorial. Sh*t man, if you love your 360 so much, shouldn't you be playing it right now?
I mean, why on earth do you bring up the fact that bioshock has a sticker that says 360 only on a Lair preview?

xg-ei8ht3527d ago

Bioshock would fit on one dvd9, its only 6gb as far as i know. Well my bioshock disc is.

But its a close quaters game, like gears, no view distance, kinda like Doom 3 style.

Lair is an epic, Uncompressed Sound i'm guessing. Massive levels, realtime water, Bioshocks water isnt realtime. Its got nice relfections, but thats about it, hl2's water is much better then bioshocks.

U refer to aaa titles, as if the 360 has many.

Gears of war.
Bioshock.
Halo 3 probably( although i don't go for cartoons, Gave up on them when i was 8.,lmao)
Madden 08 if your an American.
Mass effect, looks poor to me. Be surprised if it gets a 7.

How long has the 360 been out.

Lair on 360 wouldnt be too good, as it could not do the processing for geometry. As this is done on the cell.

By next year, As titles made for the ps3, i don't think will be possible on 360. Hence the 360's demise.

THE_JUDGE3527d ago

I believe that Lair is a result not an example. It shows what can be done with the PS3 and hints at the future of both the Sixaxis and the system itself. I'm looking forward to flying my dragon very soon.

Ju3527d ago

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Ace Combat 7 with the Lair engine in 2008 (wouldn't that be great ?).
