GameSpot talks to Kudo Tsunoda about some of the attention Kinect has been getting recently, what's in store for Core Gamers at launch, and which games he excited for post launch.
Did he just say core gamers will enjoy Kinectamils?
story and adventure based game hmmmmm
Why does MS keep doing this? Stop trying trying to string along core gamers with promises you can't keep. Just admit kinect is not for them and be done with it.
Does anyone know what Kudo actually does? Did he actually help build Kinect? I never understood his role in Kinect. @Troll_Police- He never said those exact words. He said Kinectamils will have elements that some core gamers would enjoy. Kudo also says that there isn't a definition of what a core game is...which is true. In the end, he says that he respects others gaming preference and isn't telling anyone what they should or shouldn't play and that core gamers should at the very least try it out. Seems pretty sincere to me. I don't understand why people on this site are so desperate for a casual add-on to fulfill their hardcore needs. GT5, LBP 2, Halo: Reach, Infamous 1, God of War 3, Black Ops, Medal of Honor, Mass Effect 2, Left 4 Dead 1/2, Prince of Persia and Sly Cooper HD remakes, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Bayonetta, Uncharted 2 GOTY edition and Dead Nation are ALL available this year(with the 3DS and its PLETHORA of core titles coming in 2011). Main Point: Who the hell cares if Kinect delivers hardcore games or not? I don't need em and I doubt any other so called "core" gamer needs them either. @plb- So hes just a spokesperson?
No, MS brought the tech. Sony and Nintendo passed on the opportunity years ago.
@plb "No, MS brought the tech. Sony and Nintendo passed on the opportunity years ago." That is BS! The camera was created by PrimeSense using infrared although MS owns the other company creating the competing technology for depth sensing cameras, Time of Flight. The heart and meat of this is the software behind it all. The software technology behind the ability to motion capture a person is developed within MS from a bunch of research papers that has only recently been published. You can read the entire story about it here: Kinect for Xbox 360: The inside story of Microsoft's secret 'Project Natal': http://www.wired.co.uk/wire... If Kinect is a success, Sony and Nintendo (albeit Nintendo probably don't have the research experience nor the finances to support this) will be remembered like how Verizon passed on the iPhone! @deadreckoning666 Kudo I believe is in charge of coming up with creative ideas, that at least fits in with the story above and his title. He seemed to have been part of a bunch of prototyping various game mechanics. It sounds like he was pretty much there from the beginning of Project Natal though.
His job is to direct developement teams on what is needed for kinect to function properly as a gaming device. He also works to assist 3rd party.
@gamingdroid, The two companies that were licensed and acquired by Microsoft are PrimeSense and 3DV Systems. It was 3DV that went to Sony then Nintendo first to showcase their camera motion sensing. And they both passed on it for technical and cost reasons. Just saying developed "in-house" is just play on words. All that happens AFTER the aquisistion. Then MS can just stamp their logo on it. Simple. As far as Sony and Nintendo, the problem with 3DV was that the tech was flawed since it doesn't take into account changing environments and colors in real world tests. Demos are one thing, being in people's home is another. And at the time Sony (and Nintendo) wanted something that would be very accurate, cost effective and reliable. 3DV tech wasn't practical. Even today you are seeing stories about making sure the Kinect is well ventilated to prevent over-heating; probably to avoid law suites regarding RROD effects on the 360.
Nobody is denying that the depth sensing camera was developed by another company than MS. Heck, there are others beyond 3DV and PrimeSense. "Just saying developed "in-house" is just play on words. All that happens AFTER the aquisistion. Then MS can just stamp their logo on it. Simple." What is developed by MS is the motion capture software that maps a persons body to a skeleton that enables Kinect to do what it does. Software is the heart of Kinect, not the hardware. Did you read the story behind Kinect at Edge? You know, the link I provided? "Even today you are seeing stories about making sure the Kinect is well ventilated to prevent over-heating; probably to avoid law suites regarding RROD effects on the 360." I have never heard about any stories about the technology overheating, care to give us a source beyond me taking your word for it? "And at the time Sony (and Nintendo) wanted something that would be very accurate, cost effective and reliable." We all know how accurate Wii Motion controls are, so I doubt the reason they backed off on it was "accuracy". Sony isn't the one to talk about cost effectiveness when their own PS3 is way pricey compared to the competition (regardless of what is included). Sony has never been shy of pushing anything costly into the market. If anything, I think neither company has the money to not only push something like this out into the market, but also the cost of R&D prohibits them from doing it. Sony of all companies was in the foray of all this, but just let it slip between the cracks.
If you don't know which motion controller to et just watch this douche demo Kinect and then watch the creators of PS Move demo The Move. It is so clear which one is full of shit and which ones are just regular gamers who love what they do and is happy in the knowledge that they are creating a device that will benefit core gamers.
Anyone remember this demo? http://www.youtube.com/watc...
anyone want to count how many times he says kinect
don't forget "super-awesome"
and it came to 16 times in total if you don't count him saying Kinectimals. Also "Forza is best racing game of this generation of consoles" says Kudo....
Forza is the best racing game this gen. Are you trying to refer GT5 might be better? GT5 isn't even out therfore doesn't even compete yet.
And all i could think of was....This is bullshit. Hes bullshitting his face off.
lol @ Kudo. http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Take the sunglasses off already
He's got Itagaki fever.
Yeah what a textbook douchebag. I mean taking preventative measures to not ruin his eyes like who would ever do such a thing? /s
This guy is flat out lying about Kinect and being hardcore, as long as Microsoft keeps filling his wallet...
Yeah, I wish I had that job.
I thought his answer for "core gamers" was really well done. He is simply working with the games they're launching with. How do you know what games you will/wont like?
Kudo is starting to get on my nerves now
You said it
It's hard to describe just how bad Kinect really is.
I tried it, but it sounded like fanboy crap.
Odd..that should have rolled right off your tongue then.
whatever he will say... Its biaised...
kudo is an arsehole
http://n4g.com/user/useract... this guy and microsoft are bullsh!ters. 500,000,000 dollars they could have spent on core gamers.it tells you microsoft did not care to spend money on them.or care to build a first party to support their core gamers that got them where they there.
no shit, sherlock. we've known about this for a while.
"we've known about this for a while." and still don't FN care... You gotta have a 360 first before you start complaining about what games they have. Your comment history reads like a Sony PR plant. God, I hope you get paid for your effort..
Your comment history reads like a Sony PR plant. God, I hope you get paid for your effort.. -So Moonboots, I see you've met Apocalypse Shadow. No, he has no creditability in a 360 thread, but yes he will continue coming back anyway. JOY
...he may actually realise that he owes a lot to the RRoDing, online charging, kicking the sh!t out of a far superior console for the service and game quality he "enjoys"
they could spend that money on a real good game or a studio why wud spend that on jus advertise
"Obviously, Forza is just the best racing game of this generation of consoles." hahahahahahahahahah lol omg
he's right GT5 hasn't landed yet
That's not the point. I was and still am laughing at the fact of how ignorant this asshat is. Sure forza is a great racing game, but to ignore the other great racing titles released this gen such as burnout paradise, dirt 2, need for speed: shift etc. is just pure stupidity. I have no respect for this man.
Before you laugh at his "ignorance" and btw he isn't, you need to realise that Forza, all be it racing, is not even in the same league as those games you have mentioned, Forza (as well as GT5) is a racing SIM, the games you have quoted and many others out there are not, they are racing "Arcade" so before you start spouting your mouth off about how you do not "respect" someone (who btw is informed and part of the industry you just cast aside through blatant lack of understanding) you need to address your knowledge of gaming, then you can criticise constructively. Good god man ETA: grammar your ignorance promoted me to submit without proof reading!!!
You don't get to change the definition of "racing game" to fit your point. All of the games Oldman100 listed are racing games. Forza is also a racing game. You can call it a simulation all you want. I don't own flying cars nor do I know anyone that does. Forza 3 has flying cars. What is it simulating other than a racing game?
He talks about the starwar game. The reporter should ask him: why did u guys fake the starwar kinect footage?
They actually have PR folks out of shot of the camera and if he even tried to stray into hard ball territory they would of shut him down. People queue up to do their interviews and if you don't play by MS PR rules you are shown the door. I agree, with the launch very close it is time to start asking the tough questions about it. Especially if you expect me to purchase it. I had the chance to demo it and well I thought it worked good and I'm excited about the tech but there is nothing "core" about the launch line-up IMO. The core need an "OMG! That is awesome" type of experience and it's not there yet.
I know! Some ballsy journalist needs to question Microsoft's string of BS!
Kinectimals is just Nintendogs on a big screen.
can somebody pleasee PUNCH THIS GUY IS HIS UGLY FACE. man he's a herb. moron with his red jump suit. cut your hair please. take off your glasses inside. you are not cool.
Lol @ all the Sony fanboys searching desperately for something to bash aww bored of your game already?
Its funny how he says "core gamers will enjoy Kinectamils" You guys make fun of PS3 gamers when they have a good reason now to say these things. If you are a xbox fanboy it must be hard knowing that these are the kind of people that you are following. Abandoning you for the sake of money. Trying to make it seem like they are not messing this industry up with xbox live pay to play, having devs pay money for updates for their games, acting like dvd discs are not hindering game development, etc... You guys had a good reason to say things about sony and the PS3 before 2009 but now there is nothing that you can defend yourselves against. Many of you guys are saying"look at those sales!". Sales dont matter, game quality does, but when there is nothing else to attack with I guess all you can do is use sales. The time has come Pc gamers and PS3 gamers are the only gaming platforms that will soon be truly hardcore. Microsoft has abandon the hardcore and they probably wont change until they see console sales going down and competitors getting more cash. (my first rant on N4G...thank you)
When we see things materialise then we will criticise (/*cough*/ GT5), since launch I've really enjoyed my 360 and look proud at my collection of games and I look forward to 2011's line up I enjoy multi platform games just as must as exclusives. I am excited by Kinect (being a developer) I can appreciate the complexity of what they're attempting to do, and I also understand that it needs a certain number of devices sold to ensure its future and developer support. I think you'll find that the wii was labelled as "casual" and is not considered "hardcore" and yet here we have a super wii in the form of a sex toy called "Move" You "Sony Fanboys" have 2 strings too your bow 1. Exclusives 2. Paying for live now! 1. "Exclusives" - On the 306 we've had plenty up to yet, ok the current line up seems dry now but I reserve judgement for when things arrive rather than the "promise" of their arrival (/*cough again*/ GT5) so don't think I get all bothered about you getting a couple of titles I have no genuine interest in. Also to add that a-lot of our exclusives are surfacing on your console, I see this as the exclusives have warranted enough demand from the ps3 fans to be made into multi plat, don't see that happening to your "quality" games now do we? 2. "Paying for live" - I've paid for live since xbox 1, your "Sony" simply cannot charge for online (and believe me they would if they could) since live is superior in every way to the Sony counterpart, charging would simply be its nail in its coffin, 2 I don't have a problem with paying for it? Yet you doand yet its my money!!!???? do you wish to go over my expenses and find me a cheaper deal on my car insurance? As for hardcore gaming a console will never be hardcore and your "opinion" (or Sony's) of games differ's from mine So sir your "argument" has no weight here Get lost and stop trolling
I respect that you're a patient person and are happy with even the multi-platform games going into 2011, but how can you not be concerned as a core gamer about the completely casual direction MS is going? It's pretty easy to say that if Kinect wasn't being explored by MS, you would be getting awesome core games in their place. Particularly since that $500 million+ would be being spent on the more important parts of their gaming division. // I think you'll find that the wii was labelled as "casual" and is not considered "hardcore" and yet here we have a super wii in the form of a sex toy called "Move" // There's a big difference in the approach Sony are taking with Move and what Nintendo did with the Wii. 1. The Wii was sold as a console for the masses (casual or not, but most casual). A console, not a peripheral. 2. The Wii has been over-run by shovelware. It has some great games amongst all this, but still that has been Nintendo's worst problem in terms of third-party quality control. 3. PS Move is doing right what Nintendo only scratched the surface of with Wii. It going in a positive direction for both the core gamer and already introducing a better alternative for the casual gamer. 4. Yes it looks 'slightly' like a dildo, but isn't that joke old already? *yawn* 5. Most of the Wii's best games are those that don't use the motion control. Whilst some of the best current and upcoming PS3 games will be using the Move. Games that both the core and casual would be interested in. 6. In summary, PS3 fans didn't label the Wii as "casual" for it's motion capabilities (although there is a lot of waggle), but it's avalanche of casual games. Sony is doing now what Nintendon't! ;) // Also to add that a-lot of our exclusives are surfacing on your console, I see this as the exclusives have warranted enough demand from the ps3 fans to be made into multi plat, don't see that happening to your "quality" games now do we? // These previously-exclusive games are not singularly due to demand from PS3 fans. Although that is obviously a factor to take into account. It's more due to third-party companies wanting more money and the developers wanting to spread their creations to multiple platforms to get a larger consumer base for their game. @ Paying for Xbox Live argument. If you can afford and pay for Xbox LIVE subsription, then that's your purchase decision. But that doesn't make it right for Microsoft to force that charge upon gamers. Xbox and Xbox 360 have been the only platforms that charge for playing games online (besides MMOs, which feature regular content updates, maintenance etc. which makes the subscription a worthy purchase). And there's equal or slightly better alternatives out there which are free. MS's are ripping consumers a new one with XBL subscriptions, especially with the price increase. Most 360 gamers pay for XBL to simply play their games online, and a good percentage of those people use it to talk to their friends. Is that a good thing to be spending that much money to do those things (on top of a Internet service and the price of the console + games + possible expensive add-ons).
"Lol @ all the Sony fanboys searching desperately for something to bash aww bored of your game already?" That has to be the worst attempt at a PS3 bash ever created. So many of you use it. Yet so many of you that use it are here using it. The Sony fanboys are bored of their game. They're here now to give you company as you're also bored with your game. Yay!
He went from fight night 3 to greats of war 2 then in charge of natal. Kinect will be a success and he probably will get a promotion at microsoft for making kinect look like a success he created when really it's gonna sell no matter what. Kudos to kudo.
Did this guy just try to sell me that Kinectimals is a "core" title? I'm keeping an open mind about this whole Kinect thing as a "core" gamer Mr. Kudo.. but don't try and sell me an apple and tell me it's an orange. Wow, you would think a company that has built it's business on the core would at least have an idea of what appeals to them.
it will sell microsoft always take advantage of the ignorant too bad north america is loaded wit these. no offence
WOW he actuality has taken off his glasses for once in his recent life, I hate this guy big time. All his comments in recent times have been total BS. I have Forza 3 and almost got all the achievements but he is having a laugh if he thinks that Forza 3 was or still is greater than Gran Tursimo 5 Microsoft need to get rid of him or hide him away, he is giving them a bad name
...Something tells me that Microsoft isn't confident with Kinect at all.
