Xbox Live Indie-Dome: August 23rd – 29th, 2010

CFD! recently cleared out a huge backlog of Xbox Live Indie Games. Here's the first batch with fill-in columnist Dustin Stevens:

"(Xbox Live Indie-Dome is a weekly feature where we sift through the Xbox Live Indie Games Marketplace to find the best and worst... so you don't have to!)

"Hello there, internet friends! With the Robs indisposed this week, what with PAX and other various misbehaviors, I’m here to tell you all about the Xbox Live Indie Games released between August 23rd and August 29th, 2010. As usual, the indie scene was full of games, from good to bad to ugly to confusing to… full of balls.

"Also, are there any English majors out there who can give me a word for “clever idea, poor execution?” Maybe with a connotation of “I really want to like this but I don’t?” Because I’d use that word a lot in this column."

Still love these features. Thanks for slogging through that mass of games for people.

Becoming like an app store, wow. I wish they were more successful. If only they allowed some form of X achievements per dollar cost of game.

A nice idea, but it would be so ripe for abuse. Five minutes before people would put out the Press The Button To Boost Your Gamerscore game :P

Some of them have started using what they refer to as "Awardments," but there's no real way to track it except in-game.

And thank you. I can't say we always enjoy playing these games, but there are a lot of really good ones hiding among the bad ones.

Speaking as someone doing this week's Indie-Dome, there's not been a lot worth playing this week. Advance spoilers ;P

But yeah, it's a lot of work. How Rob manages week after week, I'll never know.

I'd love for these to be more popular too... but precious few deserve notoriety. But then, that's the beauty of the $1 price point!

ShadowPraxis2830d ago

Not that everybody uses that $1 pricepoint. That's the mixed blessing of having that be the cheapest tier - one dollar isn't that much, which can be good, but some of them seem to be obvious ploys to get a few suckers to buy them.

And then even worse are the people with awful games who price them at $3 or $5. Yay for greed and hubris!

Unfortunately there are suckers out there who will support bad games.
