PlayStation Move Ships More Than 1 Million (UPDATED)

Sony has shipped more than one million PlayStation Move peripherals in America since its launch last month, and the platform holder says that demand continues to be high.
"We had to go back and increase production twice, we're absolutely maxed out right now," Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton told Reuters.

Tretton also said that he doesn't expect Sony to have enough supply on hand until next February.

While Sony's official release says that it has shipped more than 1 million units, Reuters is reporting that more than a million units have actually been sold. We're currently checking in with Sony to see whether that report is accurate.

not sold?

Game-ur2529d ago

Some of those 7 billion must have bought an extra controller.

And even if it did, Xbox fanboys will still nitpick.

TheLastGuardian2529d ago

everyone needs 2 controllers so 14 billion sold.

Wow Sony did great a job even those who don’t have money to eat found a way to buy a move, Sony must have gone universal selling the move to sell 10 billion but once again Pluto was left out, still congrats Sony… MS is next Nov 4 is rapidly coming…

SONY seriously underestimated Move's popularity. But there were no ads, nothing, who would have thought it would be this successful. It really is a great piece of tech and deserves all the sales it gets. Gonna pick up The Shoot, Time Crisis, and The Fight.

glad someone got it right

Would the world have collapsed?

Raikiri2529d ago

Sorry don`t mind me.....I forgot for a second about the weight of the small victories in the epic fanboy battle of 2010. Who will win?!?!? Me....

So say you were a local retail shop and you wanted to buy a company's product, you would call them up place an order and they would send it to you free of charge? No.

Sony did sell one million PS Moves in the U.S. and that's a fact. Now whether those retailers manage to sell off their inventory to the public has nothing to do with Sony.

MNicholas2528d ago (Edited 2528d ago )

considering no one seems to know about it.

Credit to Sony for using real numbers rather than resort to bottom-feeder tactics like saying it's "sold out" or some other vague, meaningless, and deceptive statement.

So what are they saying that they had to increase production because demand is so high? So does that mean that they shipped a million units only or that they shipped a million units so far and had to make more because they were sold? If what Reuters is saying is right, then that would mean that more then a million units were sold in the U.S.which is even better. If stores truly have Move on back order and it is selling out then that would make sense. But will hold my excitement in until i see more solid figures

Zir02529d ago

So where are the software numbers to back that up since Move didn't even top the accessories chart in September NPD

Silly gameAr2529d ago

Darn. That's the most important thing on gamers minds lately. You're asking the ones that EVERYBODY wants to know. If we knew, it would make gaming all the more sweeter.

1 million aint that bad,is japan included?

buffig2529d ago

no japana is not included in that figure. So far there have been 1.5m sold in Europe and Reuters are reporting that the 1m shipped in US have been sold with production capacity increased twice. total 2.5m in 30 days not including japan. I can easily see it topping 4.5m by christmas
