The Demon’s Souls Effect On Atlus USA’s Profits

Siliconera: "Index Holdings, the parent company of Atlus, released profit and loss figures for Atlus USA. The US subsidiary did significantly better in fiscal year 2010, the period between September 1, 2009 – August 31, 2010 (Persona style school year) compared to fiscal year 2009.

We’ll let these pictures key games in Atlus USA’s lineups and the numbers do the talking from here." (Demon's Souls, PS3)

Actually, If they'd release Demon's Souls simultaneously in EU and US profits would be more balanced. Sh!tload of people imported this game from US once Asian was hard to obtain. I'm one of them, and pretty much everyone I know in Europe who played it did the same. No one wanted to wait for EU announcement.

Sony misunderstood this GEM
I hope the sequel will be a worldwide release

yeah i did, got the LE for £29.99 and supported Scamco who published it in EU but it also sold out in europe even after that long a wait.

the delay for Eu release are so impredictible..it was the right thing to do .

now, SCEA, SCEE,
don't you feel stupid for not bringing this game out under your publisher reigns?

Of course, guess they learn the lesson...

Hopefully these sales figures will prompt more games like Demon's Souls to be made.

theunleashed64  +   1862d ago
project dark is not demon's souls 2 the ip is
owned by sony project dark is a another name
of another game to avoid a lawsuit from sony
project dark is not the real sequel to demon's
raztad  +   1862d ago
While I agree with theunleashed comment, Project Dark could wet the appetites of people looking for DS gameplay. Let us hope FROM is up to the task, and give us a good game.

Demon's Souls is a spiritual sucessor to King's Field, as Project Dark is a spiritual sucessor to Demon's Souls.

i bought demon's souls the day it released, and i'm still playing it.

I imported from the US, played it nearly to completion, then bought the Black Phantom edition when it released in the UK. Have barely touched it though, I'm ashamed to say. I NEED to get back to it soon though...

Hopefully this has served to raise FROM's profile, and if they can produce a sequel that lives up to the brilliance of the first I will be at the front of the queue to buy it. The story in DS was so threadbare that they could easily work in a sequel, no probs. And now they've got more money they could improve the graphics and sound engine etc to make it look and sound a bit more polished.

I think there was another factor besides Demon's Souls
Square enix still not delivering a good JRPG had me and a lot of friends paying more attention to Atlus within the past 2-3 years.

I loved Demon's Souls. I Imported from Asia at release, then I got the US CE because Amazon had a sale on it. I hope they make another.

well i hope that with the success of demons souls , more people will put atlus on their radar as a publisher of good games. atlus sadly doesnt have the advertisement muscle many other companies have so their games are far to often overlooked. perhaps catherine will be a success for them and further cement them into peoples minds as a great developer/publisher. SRT:og saga was great as was rondo of swords. rondo is the best srpg ive played in a long time with new mechanics to the genre. still waiting on a sequel lol.

well to the person asking for more demons souls type games , they are being made.there is no shortage of fantasy action rpg's. 2 of the better known ones are:

the hunted: demons forge - http://www.gametrailers.com...
Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll - http://www.gametrailers.com...

how will these compare to DS? probably not at all as im sure they will be button mashing games with combos and QTE ala god of war. or you could just wait for from softwares next game, project dark, as it will not dissapoint. http://www.youtube.com/watc...

it will be a long wait though. hope your are patient the next 12 months or so...

Demon's Souls is still my favorite game of this generation. I recently started playing again. Please let there be a Demon's Souls 2.
