IGN: Costume Quest Review

Costume Quest does a lot of things right – it’s humorous, has a great art style that fits the childish theme, a decent battle system, and costumes that double as super powers. Sure, the story is cheesy, but it's also heart-warming and the ending leaves you with a smile on your face. But despite these great qualities, the game does have its shortcomings -- the campaign feels short, side-quests can get repetitive, there isn’t much in the way of character customization, and $15 seems a bit steep. Still, it's a great way to relive the nostalgia of your trick or treating days, so you should give it a try, especially if there's a price drop.

Presentation - 8.5
Graphics - 8.0
Sound - 8.5
Gameplay - 7.0
Lasting Appeal - 7.0

Why shouldn't you?
Not like 7.5 means "Don't buy it".

Yi-Long4933d ago

... but not for 1200 pts.

I wouldn't be surprised if next week on Halloween it gets a 1-day sale for 800 pts or something. Will probably get it then, or wait till it finally does drop in price.

despair4934d ago

7.5 could be anything from 6-9 depending on the person, at least from my experience with reviews.

mr.selfdestruct4934d ago (Edited 4934d ago )

It's a great game. The presentation is perfect the game play is fun. The fighting is awesome. If ya got PSN get this game. Its worth the price if ya love all things Halloween!!!!

blackblades4934d ago

Played the demo it was good they need more rpg games like this one on disc based, psn based.

Vegeta90004934d ago

The game is way too easy. There is 0 challenge & combat is nothing but a bunch of QTEs.

Esena4934d ago

Did you actually play the game or are you just guessing it's too easy?

hay4933d ago

Probably played the demo only.

Quagmire4934d ago (Edited 4934d ago )

Main factors unforunately causing me to pass up on this game are:

Short Length
Price
Turn-Based Fighting
Lack of Voices
And repetitive missions.

Too bad, was wanting to play this too.

wiggles4934d ago

I think I will buy it if it goes down to $10 but it just seems really easy.

I mean I didn't come close to dying and it doesn't seem that it gets tougher as the game goes on

Absolute garbage. Don't think I've ever seen a worse month

TheExecutioner1301d ago

even though I don't agree with most of the time, but this time I do

Baza1301d ago (Edited 1301d ago )

This service is probably on its way out anyway. With Game Pass getting beefed up this really doesn’t make sense. They’re not even trying to put out quality games

SpadeX1301d ago

if they will abandon it completely, then MS would make online multiplayer free or require it on Game Pass which is unlikely due to the higher cost than Gold. They could get rid of Games with Gold in favor of Game Pass games though or degrade the feature to offer Xbox 360/OG Xbox games only.

DJStotty1301d ago

Good for me as i was looking to buy Maid of Sker, so ok month in my opinion.

Everyone's entitled to theirs

sushimama1301d ago

Enjoy your 64 metacritic game. But you know, I don't believe a word you've typed.

DJStotty1301d ago (Edited 1301d ago )

I do not buy games according to their Metacritic rating.

If it looks like i'll play it, i'll buy it. Just like i bought "the complex", which after looking is a 68 metacritic game, but i really enjoyed it.

If you buy games according to a website that can be biased ratings, then more power to you.

I'll screenshot the game when i get it and send it PM'd to you if you like?

FanboySpotter1301d ago

Have fun play games and form your own opinions about it don't let someone else's opinions on a website scoring control what you want to play.

1301d ago
Terry_B1301d ago

Slayaway Camp is not Garbage, its a damn great intelligent Puzzle Game.

FreeckyCake1301d ago

Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy is definitely worth it.

Darkwatchman1301d ago

Maid of Sker is a new game that’s gotten pretty good reception. I’m
Hype on that game

Games with gold is pretty much dead due to gamepass

crazyCoconuts1301d ago

but you're still paying the same $ for Gold - why would game pass impact the quality of a completely different service?

FanboySpotter1301d ago

Everyone been paying gold membership even before games with gold was a thing. The free games was always a added bonus. I noticed it get worse as soon as gamepass got bigger.

If games with gold gave out huge AAA games all the time no one will want to go to gamepass. If gamepass did not get doom eternal for october 1- that would be without a doubt a free with gold game.

chiefJohn1171301d ago (Edited 1301d ago )

I have gamepass ultimate i don't sub to gold. Having gold is just a bonus lol

No Way1300d ago

No it's not. It's still 'free' games that you 'own,' while Gamepass games will, or may, eventually leave causing you to have to purchase it.

Not to mention, it gives you games, sometimes, that you normally never would have tried, at 'zero' cost. And, as long as you are subscribed, you can play it whenever you want.

It's not dead (or shouldn't be).

Profchaos1301d ago

Why does ms even bother anymore

DJStotty1301d ago

Let's be honest they don't even need to give you anything, but they do, bad month or not.

Bad for some, good for others.

Hakuoro1301d ago (Edited 1301d ago )

"Let's be honest they don't even need to give you anything"

Well... xbox fans will defend them even if they give nothing so I guess that's true... I mean it's your guy's fault we all have to pay for online...

DJStotty1301d ago

@Hakuoro

"I mean it's your guy's fault we all have to pay for online..."

For Xbox yes, not for PS4/5, that is Sony's fault.

I will not defend anything i don't feel requires defending, i am just happy i get something i pay for, and to be fair £50 a year is like £0.96 per week. I spend £3+ on lunch everyday.

RGB1301d ago

Probably the worst Game with Gold ever, clearly trying to stop the project, they want people to pay $15 a month for Game Pass Ultimate instead of $5 for Gold. I'd rather own my games than rent them.

Not a chance there is $72 worth of content there too, $35 would be pushing it.

DJStotty1301d ago

I'd rather pay for ultimate than pay £60-70 per game.

VersusDMC1301d ago

So I guess you're not buying Cyberpunk at launch? Or any big 3third party games at launch?

DJStotty1301d ago

@VersusDMC

"So I guess you're not buying Cyberpunk at launch? Or any big 3third party games at launch?"

What?

Quite sure we are talking about MS 1st party here?

RGB was talking about them wanting to pay for GP ultimate, and i simply said i would rather pay for Ultimate, than pay £60-70 per game on a rival platform. Ala ES6, and future Bethesda, Zenimax games.

3rd party that are not on gamepass, sure i'll buy them, but again cyberpunk is not a PS5/SX game for £60 now is it?

VersusDMC1301d ago

@DJSTotty

"RGB was talking about them wanting to pay for GP ultimate, and i simply said i would rather pay for Ultimate, than pay £60-70 per game on a rival platform. Ala ES6, and future Bethesda, Zenimax games"

Well the games that are day one on game pass aren't available on a rival platform...

"again cyberpunk is not a PS5/SX game for £60 now is it?"

It is on Amazon...

RGB1301d ago

Yeah, see how long this business model lasts giving games for $1 a month, see how many developers go under.

Ori devs have already abandoned Xbox to go multiplatform, only 2 million people downloaded Ori 2 from Game Pass, less than 25% of that 2 million even beat the game. Devs are slowly realising, if your game isn't a GAAS product, you'll be in a graveyard before you know it!

15 million people paying $15 per month = $2.8 billion in REVENUE, they have 23 developers to feed now and all those 3rd party deals... Game Pass needs 50+ million subs at $15 per month to be profitable whilst they keep adding games day 1 and getting 3rd party deals, these deals ain't free, Xbox has paid to get those games on Game Pass.

DJStotty1300d ago (Edited 1300d ago )

@VersusDMC

"Well the games that are day one on game pass aren't available on a rival platform..."

Incorrect, Elder scrolls 6 is on PS5, and others most probably will be.

Again, i did not mention day 1 games, you did. I will try another way to best get my point across :-

If a game is multi platform, but is part of gamepass, whether that be day 1 or not, i would rather pay for gamepass, as opposed to buying all said games in question, on a rival platform, with prices ranging from £50+.

"It is on Amazon..." (in response to me stating Cyberpunk 2077 is not a £60 game)

Again incorrect, £49.99

chiefJohn1171301d ago

Id rather have the option of both

VersusDMC1301d ago

Is it weird that no one is talking about how Xbox discontinued 12 month games with gold subs? You can only get 1 month and 3 months on the Xbox web site. So you're options are 120 or 100 a year. I guess you can still find 12 month physical cards...which is a sneaky way of masking a price hike. Well played Microsoft.

Hakuoro1301d ago

Yeah... they jacked up the price on the sly...

Bathyj1301d ago

They did that so they can finish the service when ever they want and people won't complain they just bought a year's worth.

VersusDMC1301d ago

That's what everyone thought when they announced they discontinued 12 month subs and Microsoft won't correct that narrative so they can auto charge 10 bucks a month for Gold. It's going to be more expensive to play "free" to play games on Xbox...

DJStotty1301d ago

Gamepass Ultimate is cheaper than buying gold and gamepass seperate.

I think they are aiming to include gold with gamepass (vanilla) eventually. You can still buy 12 month subs (while stocks last) at retailers, after that it will be 3 months.

sushimama1301d ago

I know a dude with 5 years worth of Games With Gold built up.
