Metroid Prime 3 Review: "Stunning culmination of Retro's legendary series"

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is the stunning culmination of Retro Studios' legendary series. Prime's first (and last) outing on Wii is indicative of a developer that has refined and honed its craftsmanship and design sense, even after its debut effort quickly became one of the most respected games of all time. Never before has Shacknews seen a Metroid game with a larger variety of gameplay, a greater sense of inhabiting the iconic power suit of bounty huntress Samus Aran, or a fuller context for the universe in which Samus fights.

I wish I was more into the Metroid series.
Unfortunately, I feel like Metroid is only an exciting prospect for the NIntendo fanboys (and I say FANBOYS in the nicest way possible. I'm talking about the folks who have remained loyal to Nintendo for the past 20+ years and just can't get enough of Mario, Zelda and Samus)

I'm not saying I don't think Metroid Prime will be a great game, I'm just saying that I don't feel like the Metroid franchise has had a strong history that lends it to a large amount of public excitement.
Maybe I'm jaded, and maybe I did kind of abandon Nintendo when the Sega Genesis came out and Sonic the Hedgehog and Shinobi dominated the Nintendo market, but I am kinda tired of Mario, and Samus... I really like when a company can step away from their cash cows and shoot for a new IP.
I think a trilogy is about as far as I can span my interest in one series...

Anyhow, good luck to Nintendo and Metroid prime.
I don't know if I'll be buying this game because when it comes to the FPS genre, a lot of the appeal for me is some compelling online multiplayer, and some impressive graphics.

Online multiplayer may be something that Nintendo can pull off well, someday, but I will be looking to the PS3 or Xbox360 for some impressive graphics, AI, and physics.

Because, honestly... look at those screenshots, and REALLY ask yourself if that's something you think you could really get into. because I just don't think I can.

One of the best games of all time was Zelda: the Ocarina of Time for the N64. UNFORTUNATELY, I didn't get to play this game until I had it installed on my modded Xbox as a ROM running on an N64 emulator. So, while the game is undoubtedly an innovative and amazing game, it's dated presentation kept me from playing the game more than 5 or 6 hours. I just felt like I was taking a dive. That's how I feel about a lot of the Wii games.

that's Sony fanboyism talk.

Sony fanboyism?

Sounds like you just may be a Nintendo fanboy licking his wounds.

If Samus and Master Chief get married, Samus would be the one who's wearing the pants in the house. Master Chief would be Samus' b1tch.

JUSTaGAME3434d ago

If Samus can kick Master Chef's ass... I guess Snake just likes to watch... from inside a cardboard box no doubt... creepy old pervert

Rooftrellen3434d ago

I know what you mean. No FPS has even hed a candle to Goldeneye, and I can't stand to play any new ones (such as Halo) because for all the flash and graphics and even online multiplayer, it doesn't compare to getting 3 other people together and killing each other on a N64 game.

It's depressing when a new game feels bearly playable because older games stack up so much better. Of course, we have differences, you looking at graphics and me looking at gameplay, but I do know how you feel when you feel like a new game is already out-dated because something even better came before the new one.

Old guy+CarbordBox+Moustache+Spand ex = Creepy old guy.......

but Samus can kill Snake AND MC....She doesn't run out of ammo and she has like....a 99energy shield....and she has like 8-9 of them instock lmao.....
I also don't see MC and Snake killing a huge fat dragon or a flying metalic dragon....or a flying brain thingy....

Don't give me the crap about "it's ment to be played single player lolz!" because it's bullsh1t. The DS did it and it was good.

Rooftrellen3434d ago

The DS did it, and it wasn't bad, but it was the worst Metroid game by far.

I guess that shows how great Metroid actually is, when so many people enjoy the worst game with the Metroid title.

JUSTaGAME3434d ago

I think people will enjoy just about any DS game that incorporates wif-fi online multiplyer... it's just a cool innovative concept

ItsDubC3434d ago (Edited 3434d ago )

Though I think the online multiplayer in MP: Hunters for the DS was alright (not great), online multiplayer made sense w/ respect to the Hunter storyline.

MP3 however, continues a story focused on Samus rather than a slew of other bounty hunters. If Retro makes a MP: Hunters game for the Wii, I will expect an online multiplayer component.

ChickeyCantor3434d ago (Edited 3434d ago )

but you looooooooooove bioshock don't you ?
=/ admit it you never liked Metroid....because Metroid 1 and 2 never had online play so how could the third installment be ruined because of no online play?

you are talking about something what makes no sense @ all.

And Metroid on the DS had a crappy singeplayer, go figure.

No doubt about it. I can hardly wait. Good thing I still have to finish BioShock. And yes, sometimes it's better to make a game exclusively one player (See: BioShock). Not every game has to be like Halo 2, or whatever the Flagship game of the PS is...hmmm...drawing a blank here...

bootsielon3429d ago

Everyone expected this to be Nintendo's flagship FPS title. You know, one with multiplayer, especially coming from MP Hunters wave. Nobody expected that from Bioshock after playing System Shock 1 & 2.

Rooftrellen3429d ago

I don't know anyone who expected MP3 to have multiplayer that actually played the first two, or any one the NES/SNES.

There are some games comming that could do the online FPS, but Metroid just isn't supposed to be that kind of game.
