GameZone: Fallout New Vegas Review

GameZone: "Fallout: New Vegas has vault-sized shoes to fill, and a minefield to cross. As fans of Fallout, we crave innovation, and yet, we grab the pitchforks when the status quo is challenged. Having Obsidian Entertainment at the helm hasn’t eased the tension either. They developed Neverwinter Nights 2, but they also created the abysmal mess that is Alpha Protocol. Are you worried yet?"

Finally an accurate score for the bugs/issues with the game.

Pennywise2895d ago

Agreed. + Bubbles for having the nerve to say it. People tend to hate on people for calling out the flaws in popular games. Bethesda is a sorry dev who needs to learn how to code.

Baka-akaB2895d ago

again funnily enough they didnt catch any problem with the bethesda original with the same awful buggy engine ...and that was without good plot , writing and the rpg elements provided this time by obsidian .

I'm calling it , the "negative" reviews would be licking bethesda's foot , and be positive instead , if it wasnt known to be an obsidian game beforehand

Been playing the PC version for about 4 hours now. I love it. Not sure what this reviewer is talking about. But opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one.

They can't have this many bugs three times in a row. Oblivion was buggy, but we looked past it because the game was so rich and amazing. Fallout 3 was buggy, put we looked past it again because it was so different and interesting. Fallout:New Vegas is buggy and this time they shouldn't be able to get away with it. For their third game this generation, this is pathetic. It doesn't matter how good the game is if you can't even play it.

Baka-akaB2895d ago (Edited 2895d ago )

BS i say , they'll have bugs again with the next elder scrolls and people will overlook it again .

This isnt even Bethesda's third time in a row , more like their eighth .

Arena , Daggerfall , Redguard , Battlespire , morrowind , oblivion , fallout ...

The game is awesome enough to make up for the bugs.

rdgneoz32895d ago (Edited 2895d ago )

With the amount of time you can invest in it and how much there is to explore, I'd expect a few bugs. Unlike the 6 to 10 hour games out there. Enjoying the game so far.

Philoctetes2895d ago

The author of the review experienced more than just "a few bugs." At least for him, the game was semi-broken. It would be dishonest for the reviewer to overlook that.

I really don't get why everyone has an issue with bugs and glitches in games. I understand if it's a game breaking bug (quest not showing up, stuck in a rock forcing you to restart the whole game, constant freezing.) but texture pop in, screen tearings, etc.? I've played a lot of games that supposedly have screen tearings and I never once noticed it. It never bothers me and I don't see why it bothers so many other gamers and reviewers.

Christopher2895d ago

Is it me, or are review scores in general all over the place this month? MoH ranging from 4-9 on a regular basis. Same with Vanquish. Now with FNV.

TruthBTold2895d ago

A fun game is subjective. Try games out for yourselves and see if you like it or not. I tried fallout 3 and was addicted. I didn't even pay attention to bugs, popins, glitches, etc. Bought moh and been enjoying it. No game is perfect so what matters in the end is if the game is fun to you. I'm buying this game.

People are finally starting to figure out that just because the game's been advertised for months and a great deal of production value was poured into these advertisements, it isn't guaranteed to be a good game. One cannot let the hype color their vision of the game before it comes out.

That said, given all I've seen and read of Fallout: New Vegas, I would agree with the 6.5 given in this review. People do enjoy it, but this game is far from a quality product.

NickX2895d ago (Edited 2895d ago )

6.5 lol this game is far better than that. Every review I've read has said it has a better story than Fallout 3. And there are lots of people playing the game who've had no issues with a "broken game"

Philoctetes2895d ago

"Despite Obsidian’s fan-service, Fallout: New Vegas is a heaping pile of bugs. Common sights are characters falling through the world, single-digit framerates, frozen enemies, sound effects cutting out, and characters that change voices mid-conversation. I’ve had reputations reversed and weapons disappear from my inventory, only to go back to normal an hour later, and my two companions are currently stuck inside a room in New Vegas. The latter might be for the best anyway, as they kept shooting up the joint.

I have also come across a handful of broken quest-lines that have no requirements for reputations, and all parties involved are still alive. Quite simply, no dialogue options are given to finish the quests. Worse, is the constant freezing. The game has now frozen nine times and turned me into an obsessive saver, since one of these freezes happened during an auto-save and corrupted my data."

If you were writing a game review, and you experienced these problems, don't you think you'd be obliged to have your score reflect your experience?

Baka-akaB2895d ago (Edited 2895d ago )

and yet why wasnt the same reported for the first one ? Bethesda just oddly get free passes this gen

T9X692895d ago

My game has froze once. Other than that, I haven't experienced any of those issues and I've put 12 hours into the game since yesterday morning.
