Eurogamer: Vanquish Review

Vanquish is a game of astounding creativity and polish, exhilarating on the ground in the moment-to-moment thrills of high-speed-to-slow-motion combat, as well as in its wider, twisting trajectory. Doubtless the best third-person shooter ever to come out of Japan, Vanquish builds on Western developers' triumphs to push the genre in new, interesting directions, shifting the balance of power, and cementing Shinji Mikami's position as one of the best directors working in videogames today.

Literally my jaw dropped when I saw this Eurogamer review. I don't always agree with them and I have been very vocal about that in the past, just at least they do write just cause for their reviews. That's more than I can say for Jim Sterling's "look over hear" reviews.

Edit - I still don't get the term too much variety though, maybe it has to do with variety being a spice of life and some people just eat things that are too spicy.

:P

I do this with lots of games if I know I wont play it again

This is what I hate about "gamers" this generation.

"OH NO IT DOESN'T HAS A MULTIPLAYER THAT WOULD COMPLETLY STRIP THE GAME FROM WHAT MADE IT AN AWESOME SINGLE-PLAYER AND ONLY WASTES MONEY AND TIME THAT COULD GO ONTO POLISHING THE GAME."

Oh, and before you say something, it does turns out that way. You wouldn't have the "bullet-time" mechanic, and the sliding would make battles so fast your internet (And well, aiming as a whole..) would have time struggling to keep track on what's happening.

Seriously, what the hell.

well it's also a very short game. Fallout 3 also doesn't have MP but I bought it because it can take hundreds of hours to complete. Vanquish is a very fun, but very short game. This is something developers should think about when making a game that they're going to sell at 65 dollars at retail.

Lifendz2586d ago

no multiplayer no buy? That's why so many devs are forcing multiplayer into games that should be single player only.

Vanquish, Castlevania, Enslaved.....lots of games with scores all over the place this season.

Eurogamer's reviews way more then IGN now. So ya this is a big plus for me.

blusoops2586d ago

ign gave this an 8.5

pretty close in my opinion

ocnkng2586d ago

but can't help the niggling feeling that the only reason IGN didn't give this a 9(AAA) is because its not a well established prublisher/studio behind it. (Shinji Mikami is a legend but Plat games is still a new kid on the block). Just my opinion though.
