Giant Bomb: Fallout New Vegas Review

It's not a surprise that Fallout: New Vegas sticks closely to Fallout 3's structure and style. But if it weren't for the game's way-too-long list of technical issues, New Vegas would actually be better than its predecessor. Instead, it's a well-written game with so many issues that some of you might want to take a pass, at least until some of this nonsense gets fixed. Yet, for all its flaws, I'd consider taking a second run through it, if only to see how some of the game's finer points play out with different choices.

so a good but short game like vanquish gets knocked but a glitchy game gets a 4/5? ummm ok.oh it's fallout.

electricshadow2827d ago

And I wonder why you have one bubble.

Because he doesn't shares your own opinions?

Not liking a game =/= trolling.

Besides, I somewhat agree with him, but New Vegas is a title alot of people will enjoy alot. Just like me or him will enjoy Vanquish.

No, because he's trolling Fallout New Vegas reviews. Read his earlier comments.

It's harder for a bigger, more content-oriented and open ended game to manage to have consistent quality that a shorter, linear game can achieve more easily.

Judge the games on its own merits, there is little need to compare them together.

yeah I agree Alpha, New Vegas looks like a really great game.

But that's how it normally is.

I'm sure I'd buy this, too, if my PC wasn't broken and am left with a laptop until I get enough money for a new Processor, but ah, I never saw the whole deal with Fallout 3.

Besides, it's quite obvious that Fallout: New Vegas and Vanquish are on different levels of polish.

Either way, both are enjoyable titles, and the only comparaison you could make of them is the release date.

What I totally hate, though, is these kids whose first RPG was Fallout 3 going around like OMG FALLOUT AWESUM XDXD and crap like that.

I personally disliked fallout 3, I bought it because I liked Morrowind, kinda liked Oblivion and knew it was along those lines but with guns and a cool set up, plus they touted VATS as an amazing thing. Problems started with the worst intro in any game, walking as a baby, taking test, birthday party really?

I got into the proper part of the game when I realised that it was pretty much like Morrowind and Oblivion with static characters who let you steal the plate they're eating from, a ridiculously low level cap, boring VATS and the same gameplay from the previous games mentioned, so after a few hours I never went back to it.

The main problem was as much as I liked Morrowind and Oblivion gameplay style and world feel, I already played those games and was ready for an evolution of the gameplay, Fallout 3 just felt like the same thing in modern, well kinda modern times and was just boring to me.

New Vegas looks exactly the same, hell even the graphics look almost the same crappy way so why rate this game high when it barely, if at all, improves from Fallout 3.

VileAndVicious2827d ago

Oblivion and Fallout were awesome games in their own right but glitchy. I mean disgustingly so sometimes.

So far the only review Ive read that has knocked New Vegas for its glitchiness is Joystiq. But not only should points have been deducted for it being glitchy but Fallout NV graphically looks exactly the same as Fallout 3.

But to each his own I guess. I never take these reviews too seriously anymore because after all they are just other peoples opinions that I dont know.

gta_manic2827d ago

I pre-ordered but i wish they fixed all the glitch and bugs from fallout 3 instead of adding more(at least thats what he says). I just hope for Fallout 4 uses a more stable engine that really does the Fallout World justice(like making the shooting and interactions better).

T9X692827d ago

What they said is correct, I been playing for hours now and nothing has changed. As far as previous bugs and glitches and gameplay. Some of the new weapons are pretty cool though.

gta_manic2827d ago

I hope the modding community will help out or at least make some cool mods to soften the blow of my visit to glitch-central, or maybe the PC version won't be as bad? any ideas?

djfullshred2827d ago

Sounds like a repeat of FO3, which was one of the most FUBAR big budget games I've ever played, from a technical standpoint. I just can't see shelling out 60 more bucks so I can get mad at my system freezing up all the time again. Gonna have to pass on this new bugfest.

Demonsdown2827d ago

Open world games are always buggy you either accept that going in or you don't go in. There is just too much going at once in these games for all the various programs to play nice with each other all the time.

despair2827d ago

really? thats not a very good excuse, name the other open world games with as bad freezing and glitching like Fallout 3 had.

MaxOpower2827d ago

Huu.... Been here for some time but never seen an Giantbomb review/story before.
