FYC: Review - Fallout New Vegas

Feed Your Console Says:

I’ve clocked in well over 30 hours into this title and can say that everything you loved about Fallout 3 is back with some great new additions. The use of factions and faction armour/fatigues is the most significant to me and is a great addition for a lot of reasons.

Fake review. It's obvious the only real one was the first one.

Does this have any spoilers to anyone that's read? I really wanna read it, but I don't know if I should to keep me excited.

How could we not? It's more of the same thing that everyone loved 2yrs ago just with some minor tweaks, a new locale and story.

True, but all the same problems still exist, at least so far from my experience with the game. New Vegas is without a doubt a great game, but having the same issues that where present a few years ago is disappointing and IMO overall should lower the score just a tad.

IMO there should be no excuse for Obsidian to not try and fix the issues or at least improve on them, but then again they did create Alpha Protocol. It's a good thing they didn't build this game from ground up, or I honestly think they would have ruined Fallout for Fallout fans.

What issues are you talking about? Fallout 3 had mediocre writing and a terribad main quest (among other systemic problems like a completely unbalanced in-game economy). But Obsidian has a great team of writers so I doubt that problem could be lingering.

I'm talking about, frame rate issues, screen tearing issues, freezing, etc. My game froze 5min into the game when I first got it earlier today. Thankfully it hasn't happened since, but screen tearing is somewhat frequent, and the frame rate is just as bad as it was in Fallout 3. Obsidian did NOTHING to fix these issues.

The only thing Obsidian did improve on, that is if I remember correctly in Fallout 3, is the load times. New Vegas has just as many frequent loading sequences as Fallout 3 but they do seem to be a tad bit quicker.

@Eiffel - So that doesn't mean anything. A developer of a certain franchise can ruin it themselves. I'm a huge SOCOM fan and I love Zipper, but for me, Zipper ruined SOCOM for SOCOM fans with SOCOM 3 and CA. I'm hoping they bring back what made SOCOM great with SOCOM 4, but from what I've seen they seem to be going casual on the hardcore fanbase. I will wait and play the game for myself before I judge though.

EDIT 2: @PrimordialSoupBase - I'm sorry but you don't think a game freezing, having a bad framerate, and screen tearing, isn't a big concern? Technical problems like these, can completely ruin a game. Fallout 3 GOTY edition on PS3 proved this, it was beyond broken.

"I honestly think they would have ruined Fallout for Fallout fans. "

That's beyond stupid.

Most of the developers within Obsidian are from Black Isle Studios, the original studio that created the Fallout franchise, not only that but the minds behind Fallout 1 and 2 led development of Fallout New Vegas.

You may as well be afraid about Bungie ruining Halo.

PrimordialSoupBase2857d ago (Edited 2857d ago )

To be fair Obsidian is working with Bethesda's hobbled engine. But more fundamentally that is not what you should be concerned about because that has no real effect on the game's systems and balance - which is what actually counts. It's an rpg; these boring technical problems come with the territory and ultimately aren't a huge concern.

@ Edit: Not really. Freezing, sure, but the other stuff is pretty much inconsequential. It's a PC game, just play it there if you can't handle anything less than a constant 30 fps.

I only experienced 2 lockups and 1 time I got stuck on a rock. A vast improvement over the predecessor

Agreed, I didnt know it was time to release reviews yet?!

A score of 6 and a score of 10?! Hmmm ok.

It's a horrible review. He doesn't even sound like he's played it enough. Sounds like he just wanted to beat the traffic to ensure the hits.
