A Day With Kinect In Pittsburgh

XXLGaming writes, "We spent the day at the West Mifflin Walmart outside of Pittsburgh showing off Kinect to the public with a local marketing firm. Lots of smiles, laughs and fun galore as people had the chance to try out Kinect for themselves. Check out our wrap up of the event."

It was in West Mifflin which made me think of Dunder Mifflin which made me think of the office and finally made me think of Steve Carrell and Ricky Gervais playing Kinect together. That would be funny to watch.

Anyway, I bet a lot of people will love playing Kinect in stores with wide open spaces, and then they buy it for Christmas or whatever and struggle getting it set up and then realize they don't have enough space to play. Not so much fun if you don't have the room to play it but if they fixed the whole sitting down problem as has been claimed it shouldn't be so bad.

Judging by the pictures, they should also submit them to peopleofwalmart.com

MorganX2589d ago

They look like regular people to me. And probably more intelligent than a lot of people posting online.

"Hey ma! Bring the younguns and see what this feller's doin' on this 'lectric picture box!"

"...not once was the Playstation Move mentioned other than an actual Walmart employee who said the Move didn’t even stand up to Kinect at all."
Wow! A Walmart employee said that? What an endorsement! Where do I sign!

Edit Above: Ah, come on MorganX. Don't be like that. If you can't poke good natured fun at WalMart shoppers, who would you rather we poke fun at? Asians? That's just racist. Stop being so damn racist.

Please explain how being completely uneducated consumers who are amazed at Eyetoy are more intelligent than the posters here, other than the fact they were amazed at MS's overpriced webcam? Or are you too busy thinking about the fun of reading NPD reports?

Funny they had to go to BFE to get a positive response for Kinect.

morkendo232589d ago

hell, i live in washington, seattle have not seen one DAMN KINECT comercial yet. not alone gamestop, best buy, Toy's R US no one is promoting kinect yet. you would think kinect would be on billboards, buses all over seattle after spending 500m dried as rain here lol

I was just about to say that. I have a feeling a lot of those who bought Kinect will be returning it, try adding some furniture in there with some noise from family members, sunlight penetrating through the living room adding glare, or rooms that are too dim to meet Kinect lighting requirements.

There are just too many negative factors to know if this will truly work in a buyers house/apartment. Like I've said in every Kinect article, I remain skeptical and refuse to buy until I read real feedback from recent purchasers.

gamer78042589d ago

Its really not any harder to setup than the wii or the ps move, i've played it. With most motion controls you need a bigger play area, a body's length from the tv and enough room between the 2nd player so your arms don't hit.

I have some video posted, but its of me playing Dance Central and that isn't being posted anywhere! LOL! But I will not disagree that it seems video isn't always provided which is unfortunate. But it does work very well. Maybe next weekend I will shoot some video at the next demo.

number472589d ago (Edited 2589d ago )

sure.

no video

thats SHOCKING.

ShadowJetX2589d ago

If it works like you say it does, then I'll stop talking crap about it (which in all honesty, wasn't as much as other people), if it doesn't work then I'll give a sigh of disapproval since many people well be suckered into buying something that doesn't live up to it's hype (much like Cross X Edge didn't).

MorganX2589d ago

How many stories here here actually have video, for anything? Jeez ... On top of that you have to get model releases.

gamingdroid2589d ago

Why don't people go out and try it themselves?

Kinect has been on tour since July or something!

A video will just enable people to nitpick stuff for their own agenda!!!

EvilBlackCat2589d ago (Edited 2589d ago )

EXACTLY!

this posers are always criticizing but they dont really have a damn clue.

but ME! whatever game i criticize is because i know about it or try it.

by the way nice ng avatar there i looooove ng!

gamingdroid2589d ago

NG kicks ass!

My favorite game of all time, well maybe next to Mass Effect, Halo and Gears of War!

I'm still not feelin' it but without a doubt it will be a success and a lot of people will have a lot of fun. Who am I to tell them what to enjoy.

cmrbe2589d ago

while they continue to shut down devs studios. All the while x360 fans still support them. This is amazing.

MorganX2589d ago

Pfft. Microsoft's business model is to maintain a few first party Juggernauts and foster a thriving development community. Why not, the two best games I have right now are multiplats (Enslaved and Castlevania).

The whole first party thing is just fanboy fodder.

strickers2589d ago

You know nothing. What they do is bad for devs and you may not know this but without game development you don't have games.A thriving game community is the funniest thing I've read from some Kinect mug in at least 5 minutes.Ask Bungie,Ensemble,Bizarre Creations,Krome,Real Time Worlds and many of the staff at Rare(who used to make proper games and be respected).Creativity needs support and it's people like you that damage our past time by supporting MS/Activision bottom line only publishers. With those companies games that are not commercial would not get made(except for their unpredicted flops eg Crackdown 2).
MS are the worst of the big 3 for fostering development and that will not change,it's not a company with any genuine pride in creativity and if you make some argument about commercial success(they are yet to have any in gaming so and I would say are still in red by some margin)you show a sad future for us all.

Moentjers2589d ago

MS business model is to kill all quality and creativity where they interfere.

thebudgetgamer2589d ago

i want studios built that cater to the games i like to play, and most kinect games are not them. i'm not saying you're wrong you just should'nt generalize like that.

MorganX2589d ago

Then you should also support a thriving development community where developers are free to create whatever games they like with the largest possible market.

Let's say you like FPS'. If everybody made FPS' the industry would go broke. And the people who will buy Kinect, and play Meatboy, or Monopoly Streets will spend their money, somewhere else.

thebudgetgamer2589d ago (Edited 2589d ago )

i dont dissagree with that at all.

karl2589d ago

yeah.. because having a ton of kinect games is way better than lots of FPS... that we already have
im sure everyone would rater kinect to dominate the market /s

the truth is that they always bet their money on the quick earing when there is so much more they could do with all that money.. but we wont see no other genre than FPS or kinect shovelware.

niceguywii602589d ago

We had enough of your crying. Give it up man getting a pat on the back by a few fanatical PS3 fanboys on some site in the corner of the internet isn't going to keep people from buying Kinect.

TotalPS3Fanboy2588d ago

"We had enough of your crying."

He won't be the only one crying. 360 gamers are going to be doing a lot of crying after finding out that Kinect doesn't work.

"Give it up man getting a pat on the back by a few fanatical PS3 fanboys on some site in the corner of the internet isn't going to keep people from buying Kinect."

Of course not. However, the large space requirement, the requirement of moving your furniture around every time you want to play, the lag, the glitches, the limiting gameplay, the failure of Kinect to recognize gestures, and all those other Kinect failures will keep people from buying Kinect.
