Castlevania has been one of those franchises that got its start during the days of the NES and despite a few hiccups along the way (I am looking at you Castlevania 64) has always been a great series. Even as the series deviated to the handheld systems, it never stopped being entertaining and fun. Then came Lords of Shadow. The first attempt at Castlevania in 3D form was met with great resistance and fell flat on its face. Several console generations later, the concept of action adventure in true 3D has finally been achieved and in great form. Mercury Steam (whose last game, Clive Barker’s Jericho, was a good attempt but still a mess) collaborated with Kojima Productions to offer us a new tale of the Belmont clan. Unlike Castlevania 64, Lord of Shadow got the 3D elements just right and made for a very compelling and entertaining journey.
