A Top list of games that new generations need to play to understand why Mortal Kombat is legendary, what's the deal with the original Medal of Honor, why Lara Croft is good not only because of the boobs and more.
Now I need to find BF2 :( any idea where to buy it online?
*cough* Piratebay *cough*
Well duh man. I want to play on official servers, not search for some lame-ass half working pirated server that I will spend 4 hours to get to due to version differences The reason I _buy_ games is to have plug and play, without worrying about whether or not my patch has been cracked.
Here's a brilliant website, where you can find all the best deals for your games, http://www.google.com Check it out. Think it's new.
Google is for n00b, the hardcore go to: http://uncyclopedia.wikia.c...
Amazon. $14 for the whole collection. Battlefield 2 is great but 2142 wasn't too bad either. As long as there aren't a bunch of Rambos running around, the game is great.
Buying discs is so old school man... by the time it arrives my attention will be towards something totally different
1. Super Mario Bros 2. Tetris (Tengen) 3. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 4. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night 5. Super Mario Bros 3 6. Chrono Trigger 7. Street Fighter II 8. Final Fantasy VII .... Sorry but if you haven't played all of these you just can't call yourself a gamer.
FF7 - totally agree!
@darkcharizard- Good list. While all those are good games some of those are not for everybody. You have some gamer's that look for more mature oriented. I have been gaming since the Commodore/Pong. Contra, Golden Eye, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Pitfall (Atari 2600), Zelda (original), Virtua Fighter, Dragon's Liar, too many to name and these are not even the best. On topic, I have a Mortal Kombat 3 coin operated Arcade Machine along with 4 more...including a MAME machine I built.
I played and beat all of those :)
Who are you to decide who may or may not call themself a gamer?
Thats what I was trying to say.
Never liked any JRPG, guess I'm not a gamer :P
Final Fantasy 6 Street Fighter 2 Super Mario World Metal Gear Solid 1 and 3 Hitman Blood Money Splinter Cell Chaos Theory Timesplitters 2 Mario 64 God of War Resident Evil 4 and lots of others lol
Good list. Don't know wht people are disagreeing.
BLACK MESA ISN'T OUT YET!! Seriously it's mentioned in tons of articles but it isn't out, there's no demo/open beta and the developers say "it'll be ready when its ready" (reminds me of duke nukem forever)
bf2 only good game on that list
The thing about retro games is mainly the nostalgia that we attach to those titles. but since those days alot has changed in the gaming world - there's no way recapture the sense of awesome wonder I got when playing MGS for the first time, the gameplay, production values, the criptic plot, Psycho Mantis!!! The whole package was unlike anything I had ever seen before in a game! You can't really ever recapture that feeling anymore. Games have moved on, things that were unique 15 years ago, have become standardised and basterdised! For the new gen, they get their nostalgia from games like Halo, MW2, UC2 etc etc. This isn't a bad thing, it's just they way of the world. They call it 'getting older'!
Beyond good & evil Metal gear 1 & 3 RE 2, code veronica, RE:make, RE:zero, 4 Silent hill 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 Fatal frame series Super mario world Old metroids, Metroid prime series Okami Viewtiful joe 1 & 2 God hand Conker (n64 or xbox version)
It's nice to see the first Tomb Raider get some credit for once and not be dismissed as that boob game. In 96 there was no other game like Tomb Raider, except say Mario64. Tomb Raider inspired so many games that were to come and the newer generation should play it, just to appreciate how far we've come.
I love Tomb Raider. So much. Sosososo much. 1 2 and 3 were like my favorite games ever back in the day. I could not stop playingggg. The series gets a lot of smack talked about it, but those original games were just simply amazing. I always had a heart attack whenever a tiger came out of no where. Loved it.
the first Medal of Honor was amazing, and so was the sequel Medal of Honor: Underground I'm glad Crash Bandicoot was on the list, I would have added Spyro to the list
Half life is overrated so no, they dont need to play it. There are plenty of FPS games this gen that are better than half life.
Please elaborate. I can somewhat fanthom someone preffering the original bioshock, but i would hardly call that plenty. And if you respod "mw2" i will press the disagree button 1 million times!
To bad my ultimatum was case sensitive. You blew it, and now half life wins, and you lose, an everything thats bad in the world disappears....
Nostalgia hits me hard whenever I think of the PS1 era. Some of my most fond memories are from lesser known games like Streak, Critical Depth, Ball Breakers, Dead Ball Zone, Omega Boost, Forsaken, and a bunch of others. I think I'll go play some playstation.
As a reminder of how gameplay is more important than graphics, there's tons of games made even in the 70's that are amazing. Four player Warlords on the 2600 is *still* a blast to play with friends.
The movement of the game was too awkward for me.
TR was awesome game in it's day, but it was harder in places and movement was off alittle, being that it was on PSX. Clipping. Talking of clipping MOH,lol 2010. rofl. Crash was great as was mgs. And no hl1 was not overrated. I will play black mesa asap.
Broken link to Black Mesa! Lol http://www.blackmesasource....
What about Thief ? the Metal Age is still the best stealth game to date.
Tomb Raider 1, 2 and 3, along with Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, and Hocus Pocus (Dos game) were my childhood. Like, that's it. That's all she wrote. Well, I also watched my brother play DOOM.. My mom would never let me actually play.. But, another game that's missing from the list that should be on here is System Shock 2, and it's super relevant since Bioshock is its spiritual successor.. and it's also flippin' amazing. But, really, there's lots of games from back in the day that I love that should be on the list, honestly. There's just too many amazing games.
Still have my original copy of Medal of Honor.
Just play a retro Mario and Sonic game and you should be fine, though I would also recommend Megaman 2 on Hard so you can understand how much harder games were back then.
The Syndicate! THE SYDICATE! :D
My list: Super Mario Bros 3 Street Fighter 2 World Warrior Metal Gear Solid Sonic 3 and Knuckles TMNT Arcade Final Fantasy 6 Goldeneye 64 Gran Turismo They say Mortal Kombat 3 started tournaments?! Have they ever heard of Street Fighter 2 Turbo, I remember the movie theater at home hosting local tournaments over that game before Mk3 even was announced back in 95. It may have kicked it into overdrive but I seriously doubt MK3 "started" the whole competitive gaming.
When I read the title I thought Crash Bandicoot but he isn't going to list that because he's probably another game journalist who thinks the Crash series sucks because He only played them on PS2 but I was wrong. I agree with every word he said except Crash 1,2,3 and CTR aren't hard once you play them enough. They can definitely be frustrating but If I can beat them when I was 7 then they aren't that hard. I can get 105% in like 5 days now on Crash Bandicoot Warped. It would be my dream come true for Naughty Dog to a make a Crash game for PS3.
Mario 3 Sonic 3 Toejam & Earl Kings Quest VI Zelda: Link to the Past Joust Rez Super C Simpsons Arcade Game
The list could have been better. A lot better. Simply removing Tomb Raider from the list would have done wonders for me.
