Xbox Overtakes Wii in Search Popularity; a Turning Point for the 360 vs. Wii?

It appears that the recent price cut and/or the BioShock and Halo 3 buzz is helping Xbox 360. Xbox 360 has recently overcome Wii in Google search popularity. Google has over 80% of the search market share, so it reflects a broad selection of users.

Could this be a turning point for the 360?

Update:

According to Hitwise, (see alternate sources,) the phrase "Xbox 360" is currently searched for more often than "PS3" or "Wii". The logical assumption would be that the Xbox 360 searches spiked as a result of the Red Ring of Death woes and warranty extension. In reality, however, terms related those subjects, such as "Xbox 360 problems" and "Xbox 360 repairs," do not rank into the list of most popular search phrases containing "Xbox 360."

In July, the ten most popular search phrases containing "Xbox 360" are (in the order of popularity): "xbox 360," "xbox 360 elite," "xbox 360 games," "xbox 360 cheats," "madden nfl 2008 for xbox 360," "xbox 360 price drop," "free xbox 360," "xbox 360 achievements," "ps3 vs xbox 360," "the darkness xbox 360."

See alternate sources for details.

i think the most popular search was
(trade in Wait-Station-3 for xbox360)

EDIT:i think the fact most of(10M) WII owners were not gamers/hardcoreGamers and now they start geting more involved in gaming, they looking for something more THAN wii + with games + affordable = 360

WHILE PS3 owners try to stay away from the internet to avoid the crap reviews yet true about their AAAAAAAA games

I don't think that search engines are the best indicators of how sales will be. It could definately be a good indicator of a popularity increase.

Especially with Halo 3 on the horizon in about a month. I think there are a lot of people still on the fence waiting to get a 360 when Halo3 is released.

This was a funny part of the article though "Just in case you're wondering, we didn't bother adding the PS3 on the chart...It basically is a flatline...dead...much like the system. (so far)"

Funny stuff...

This takes us back to the hardcore vs casual gamer discussion, 360 consumers probably uses more time reading about games and such on the internett than the Wii consumer.

MK_Red3618d ago

Agreed. Wii is selling more but most of people interested in the machine are casual gamers while hardcore usually check use the net for game related material.

I think that 360 users probably use the internet more and with the 360s killer 2007 lineup it has piqued people's interest on the internets, the wii train doesnt look like its slowin down anytime soon

Uh, now internet is hardcore?
