Is $300 too much for a 3DS?

Is it though? This piece takes a look into the features of the 3DS and whether the current Japanese price (when converted to USD) is justifiable.

No, if anything the big N could probally go a bit higher.

Bobbykotickrulesz2957d ago

lol. And you'd love for them to charge more huh?

You're a fucking tool. Anyone that would actually welcome a price hike doesn't know the value of hard earned money.

Jay love paying more, can't help it if you're rich, right guys? :)

I'd say it's an awful lot of money for a portable system no matter how amazing it is.

Greycat_James2958d ago

I agree with that. Still wouldn't say it was overpriced though.

Just like the iPhone if not for the 99 dollar deal to get it on contract then it would haven failed miserably.. Is it worth 300? Very subjective because value is percieved not given.. But at the same time 300 is the mass market price of the hd consoles so I dont see the mass market buying up 3ds' in droves at that price..

pat_11_52958d ago

The price jump is what freaks me out, Game Boy Colour was $99, gba was $129, DS was $129-139, DSi was $149. Then $300 wtf? That's such a huge leap. These are Canadian prices by the way, I don't know how much the Gameboy line has been sold for in other countries.

Greycat_James2958d ago

$79.95, $149.99, $149.99, $130, $169.99 according to various sources. The original Gameboy was $89.95 I believe. It's about $100 more than I would have expected from them, considering the pattern. But considering what's actually in the thing I think it makes sense. I can't help but feel like it's the combination of the success of the PSP (I say 'success', it's done quite well in Japan.) and iPod Touch that's made Nintendo go for a higher price. I don't see Apple dropping their prices to compete and Sony is quite likely to go for a higher price considering what they've been doing lately. This could be their chance to break back into the hand-held market.

That's a bigger post than I expected it to be..

TheSleepyGamer2958d ago

I'd say its not worth the purchase but I've never been a fan of portable gaming. I remember buying the Nintendo DS where I became bored of it after about a month, maybe sooner. I don't even know where that thing went...
