Is it though? This piece takes a look into the features of the 3DS and whether the current Japanese price (when converted to USD) is justifiable.
Is it Nintendo's turn, again, for ARROGANCE?
considering japan was paying 220 dollars for a big DS for japan i would say NO
it is to much for me cuz i'm going to buy 3 of them
No, if anything the big N could probally go a bit higher.
lol. And you'd love for them to charge more huh? You're a fucking tool. Anyone that would actually welcome a price hike doesn't know the value of hard earned money.
Jay love paying more, can't help it if you're rich, right guys? :)
I'd say it's an awful lot of money for a portable system no matter how amazing it is.
I agree with that. Still wouldn't say it was overpriced though.
Just like the iPhone if not for the 99 dollar deal to get it on contract then it would haven failed miserably.. Is it worth 300? Very subjective because value is percieved not given.. But at the same time 300 is the mass market price of the hd consoles so I dont see the mass market buying up 3ds' in droves at that price..
The price jump is what freaks me out, Game Boy Colour was $99, gba was $129, DS was $129-139, DSi was $149. Then $300 wtf? That's such a huge leap. These are Canadian prices by the way, I don't know how much the Gameboy line has been sold for in other countries.
$79.95, $149.99, $149.99, $130, $169.99 according to various sources. The original Gameboy was $89.95 I believe. It's about $100 more than I would have expected from them, considering the pattern. But considering what's actually in the thing I think it makes sense. I can't help but feel like it's the combination of the success of the PSP (I say 'success', it's done quite well in Japan.) and iPod Touch that's made Nintendo go for a higher price. I don't see Apple dropping their prices to compete and Sony is quite likely to go for a higher price considering what they've been doing lately. This could be their chance to break back into the hand-held market. That's a bigger post than I expected it to be..
I'd say its not worth the purchase but I've never been a fan of portable gaming. I remember buying the Nintendo DS where I became bored of it after about a month, maybe sooner. I don't even know where that thing went...
300 is a step... And if the games are not more interesting than actuals on DSi, i won't purchase a 3ds. I'm not very fan of ds games, to be honest. :p
It will not be $300 when it hits the USA
the president of nintendo saying the pricing will be different in different regions? every other nintendo product released being cheaper in NA as opposed japan?
you would know that 90% of the stuff they sell there is more expensive than anywhere else
Youre right... it'll be 299.9.9
With all the features it has that have been announced so far, and also a very promising games line-up I'd say it's a fair price. But I doubt it will be $300 when it gets released anyway.
I do think it is quite expensive but my main worry is Nintendo always cash n on their Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda etc games. The 3DS line up is largely just new or revamped old versions of well known games. When are we going to see some decent new titles? True if it ain't broke don't fix it and I agree games like Mario Galaxy are an original idea but at heart it is still a Mario game. I own a DS and I do like it a lot but the top games are first party titles and I just cant see the 3ds exploding with original IPs.
For those of you who say $300 is too expensive for a portable system, I can't wait to see how much Sony wants for the PSP2. The PSP Go is $249.99 on Sony's website and people have bought it, $50 more for a 3D handheld is nothing!
The psp also has features that the ds doesn't contain.. I'd be shocked if sony charged more the 249 for the psp2.. Thats the price they've sold the psp1000, 2000, 3000, and go for new....
then you'd atleast seem different from the masses. I'd be surprised if psp2 was less than $349.99. No way in hell is the psp2 going to be cheaper than the 3ds. On a sidenote the 3d gimmick is a marketing scam to make more money from idiots. Lol still have to wear glasses and look straight ahead at a tiny ass screen. '3ds: Look like an idiot in public for a mere $300'
"3ds: Look like an idiot in public for a mere $300" that makes no sense since you don't have to wear any glasses it would look no different than playing a regular 3D free handheld...
Are you aware that the PSP was graphically superior to DS by a rather long shot? Hence the price. Certain games were pretty much good PS2 graphics
http://www.wiinintendo.net/... And its a lie! http://img691.imageshack.us... So yeah! 300 dollars is too much for a fake 3D technology!
wow there are so many things wrong with everything you just said its not even funny i pray your joking and or being sarcastic
is a joke?
except its not reality and what you have accepted as reality the pictures are a total fail on your part and saying 300 for FAKE 3D tech really? do you even know what 3D is to be saying that?
300$ is too much for any handheld.
IT'S WAY to high for a gimmick console filled with ports. When I see a nice large line up of new titles that are not just grabbed from all over the place with the whole now in 3d thing then maybe I will consider it. Since this is not likely the case for a while I am going with wait for a price drop which will likely happen along side the release of some new games worth playing on the thing. Minus the new paper Mario which will be the highlight of the system until they release a true Mario platformer.
Yo. Its all about "Install fan base! Of course the 3DS isn't going to come out with completely brand new games! If your complaining about that, then you clearly dont have a grasp on "business". Nintendo is releasing ports, remakes, sequels. WHY? Simple. There is already a fanbase for "every single game" in the 3DS lineup. Pure fact. Fanbase= ppl already like the title your releasing. MSG? R.Evil? MML3? There are dozens of those games, and a Fanbase to go with each of them. Basically Nintendo, and the "Developers" are playin it safe. After the developers get there cash from all those remakes, ports, and sequels....THEN "2" things will happen. 1. Developers discover 3DS is a great outlet to make some cheddar. 2. Developers (including Ninty), will create new games for the 3DS. Its that simple. Recap: Developers are very cautious about spending alot of money on a system that hasn't proven its worth yet(in "their" eyes). Therefore we'll have to wait a 1 year or 2 for brand new games. Developers are cautious to make new games for a new system. Also we as gamers are cautious to buy a brand new game that we know "nothing" about. So that's why were getting remakes, ports, and sequels.
this is why they are lowering the price of the psp go to 200 dollars. by the time the psp2 comes out at 250 price, the go will be even cheaper. The psp2 wont have 3 cameras on it it will most likely have one or 2 so that reduces the price let me make a list of why psp2 will be cheaper 1-2 cameras and not 3 -1 touch screen and not 2 with one of them being some new 3d costly screen -smaller in size and will take less material -less assembly parts. 3ds has hinges flip design and 2screens and everything all over the place that cost money to put together. -sony makes all the parts as far as memory devices and such in there psp systems. Its cheaper to make your own then to have to have people make it for you duhhh. psp2 will have better graphics though but sony is not scared to take a loss on any of there systems but with the psn they can make there few dollars loss back as its far better then nintendos download service. I mean freaking mario jumping on the screen when downloading lol.
umm.. 3DS has one touchscreen dude
Theres been no hinting whatsoever of the PSP2 having a touch screen, but enjoy your dream. By the way it will have a second analogue stick, and although the touch screen was the second highest demanded feature next to the extra stick, Its unlikely PSP2 is going to be carbon copy of DS, and Sony dont listen to the fans that much. Touch screen isn't that likely, I mean Sony were offered by MS to use kinects tech (dont use this as flamebait please its just an example) Yet they refused, they preferred the idea of making something of their own
for a Handheld yes
for any hand held.... 250 is max who is gonna buy a handheld close to 300 bucks and if you add a game, a case + accessory you are over 400 bucks.... to me thats just way to much..
maybe, considering deals like this for a DSlite for $60 http://img412.imageshack.us...
Ughhhhhhhh!! It's not going to be $300!! people are so dumb stop using money converters to convert the yen that's not how pricing goes when they release tech here compared to over there where electrons are more expensive.
I agree that it's likley that Nintendo will not release the 3DS for $300. The question being asked is is it worth that much. The majority is saying no. I assume you agree?
We also have to remember that within the ($300), the Japanese people are also paying for the Fuji TV broadcast deal Ninty made. Yup. Honestly the SpotPass doesn't appeal that much to me. Its cool, but I'm just interested in 3 things. 1. improved graphics 2. "slide pad" 3. third party support that's it. i'll even toss in 3d as a "very" minor need. There's 1 movie I absolutely have to watch. Speed Racer. In 3D. Yes.....
I hope people bitch and bash the 3ds for its price point the same way people bashed the PS3. Also all of the initial 1-2 years worth of games better get review seething with hatred. Again, its only fair.
FYI, 5 months passed before you could walk into a store and find a PS3, and it was twice as much as the 3DS. It was huge news that following spring when PS3s could actually be found, and before that they were selling for $2000 on ebay. Such short memories people have. The 3DS will do just fine at $300.
Wow Sony left you guys with a sore ass then, Over here they were out on release day and for the RRP
$300 sounds about right to me. Nintendo knows they can charge that and it will still be sold out for months, so why not?
Me personally, I want to see it at $200-$250
for me yes..... i can only speak for me... but at over 250 and most of the games being showcased for it are remakes..... im likely gonna wait post launch..... how much will the games be????
They've said the games will be at a $35-40 range. They also said that it depends on the game and the development costs. So this could mean that there could be games sold for less or more then that range.
I said it before and I'll say it again $300 is far to much for a portable gaming system. It's mostly kids that play portable games, I don't see many parents forking $300 over for a video game system.
Its not even a home console its a damn handheld console Its more than a Wii or a 360
That is totally my argument, It doesn't matter how amazing the thing is. It's a PORTABLE
