Gaming Target BioShock Review: 'The Total Package' - 9.7/10

Bioshock is one of those rare games that completely sucks you into its world. And that's just referring to Rapture itself; the game makes you feel like you're stuck in a total disaster where everyone's crazy and yet the place still has life thanks to what's remaining of the city's amenities, as both a reminder and a demonstration of what things used to be like in this once-utopia. The plot is mature, realistic, and critical without shoving it in your face, and the voice acting matches the weight of what's going on. Of course, the gameplay also delivers by bringing depth and ease together in one package to make it truly playable with a bare minimum of frustration. It's not flawless, but Bioshock is a legitimate candidate for the best game of 2007, and any game that wants to compete with it will have to raise the bar to insane levels to match what's been accomplished here. For Bioshock is the total package.

9.7, based on major 40 reviews:

It figures EGM would give the game an 8. Their magazine sucks. Even crappy gamepro gave it a 10.

Edit: Isn't EGM 1UP? They gave it a 10. Who is that EGM then? I still stand by my statement that Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine sucks though.

EGM is 1up.

"The company, which once employed over 1,200 people, now has a staff of around 290 and is down to three magazines, including PC Magazine, Electronic Gaming Monthly and Games for Windows. It also owns 15 Web sites and a conference business."

It has already gotten an average of 97 out of 100, based on 40 different major reviews from trusted magazines.

So BioShock just got 80 from EGM -- but it does not change anything: the average score will still be 97, based on 40 + 1 reviews.

9.7 average huh? That's amazing. I frickin love this game, I have been playin the hell out of the demo since I got my 360 fixed today and god it feels good to finally try this game. I have played through a few times now and I am going to pick it up tomorrow. Scary thing is I know it's only going to get better with new powers and weapons! WOO!
