Halo: Reach Brings September Sales into the Black, says Pachter

In advance of this week's NPD sales report for September, Wedbush Morgan Securities' Michael Pachter has forecast that software sales finally were in positive territory for the month, climbing 2.4% to $665 million. Bungie's Halo: Reach is the main catalyst for what should be only the third positive month for the U.S. games business in 2010.

In before the PS3 is brought up in an Xbox article.

EDIT: Too late.

donniebaseball2926d ago

At this point I'm more curious about what Bungie's doing next, although it's good to see Reach doing well

ndibu2926d ago

If only the other team would stop talking about graphics and actually buy their exclusive this industry would be a better place.

R_aVe_N2926d ago

They are not pumping money into the industry... They are lining MS pockets and that is about it. Bungie did make a lot off the game but MS made 3 times more from doing nothing at all. If Bungie would publish their own stuff they would be able to stand alone with nobody telling them what they can and can't do.

PS360PCROCKS2926d ago

What? Whether Microsoft made money or not Bungie still put money into the games industry. Your point makes no sense, and furthermore the jab at Microsoft is misplaced. They're only the publisher, give Bungie credit, big games help the industry stay alive.

R_aVe_N2926d ago (Edited 2926d ago )

Big games do indeed help the COMPANY stay alive, but not the industry. Games do not have to be huge for the industry to prosper. One company does not equal an industry no matter how you look at it.

L-a-i-n2926d ago

I would have to agree with R_aVe_N here big games are good for the company in question, but they are not really needed to make the industry grow. Creativeness does that without huge amounts of sales. Take games like Alan Wake and Heavy Rain both had something new and the industry grew from that. Games such as Halo, GoW, and Mario are there to just make money. Take Demon Souls for instance that was not a hugely sold game, but it did give those people that like RPG's something to talk about and love.

The Lazy One2926d ago

@"here big games are good for the company in question, but they are not really needed to make the industry grow."

false. Creativity helps too, but big games allow for good companies to expand and creates a lot of buzz for games as a whole. Halo moved a lot of xbox 360s into homes, and that will benefit all xbox developers in the long run with a larger market. This is true of all system sellers on any system.

Not knocking creativity, but you can't pay new salaries in ideas.

kissmeimgreek2926d ago

"Big games do indeed help the COMPANY stay alive, but not the industry. Games do not have to be huge for the industry to prosper. One company does not equal an industry no matter how you look at it."

Isn't the industry made up of a bunch of companies anyway? How would a company doing good do anything to hurt the industry. If anything MS and bungie have sold enough consoles and allowed OTHER COMPANIES to make games and reach a bigger audience.

PS360PCROCKS2926d ago

Creativity helps gamers stay interested...it's something the movie industry now lacks. But Halo Reach selling a lot does in fact help the industry. It helps console sales, growth in the industry and it creates buzz and pushes it more into the mainstream. I realize and understand your point and totally agree. But Halo helps more than it would ever hurt.

R_aVe_N2926d ago

Without games such as Mario, Final Fantasy, Zelda, and other games like those using creativeness of those time periods there would be not game industry at all. People are acting like Halo is the whole dang industry when in fact is a very small part of it. All Halo did as a game was make the news and draw more people into gaming the same can be said with any game that gets put on TV big or small. I think you guys are totally missing the point I was trying to make, or just choose not to see what I am saying. Bungie should be praised NOT HALO OR MS. The bottom line is the dev that makes the game. Their creativeness is what made Halo big to begin with.

L-a-i-n2926d ago

I see what you are all trying to say and I agree with all parties but ndibu cause he is a troll. I think what R_aVe_N was trying to say is praise Bungie because they deserve it, and not the people that cash in on it. People are to obsessed with the name of the game and not the company that made it. I have known people that didn't even know who made Halo, and praised it all the time and that is just sad.

badz1492926d ago (Edited 2926d ago )

"If only the other team would stop talking about graphics and actually buy their exclusive..." - yeah, like how 360 gamers buy ME2, AW, SC:C, right? oh wait...never mind! only 1 or two games selling gazzilion on 360 means the PS3 gamers don't buy games? your logic sounds a bit fanboyish tbh!

edit: Unicron beat me to it

Go out and support Alan Wake and Mass Effect 2 before attempting to start more flamewars please ndibu.

Man_of_the_year2923d ago

You sure you wanna talk about console exclusives and their sales?

I don't think that would be a winning battle for the PS3.

Both those games you mentioned don't contain a Multiplay aspect thus only being single player games which have a tendency to be rentals rather than purchase. However I own both.

otherZinc2926d ago

That was the post of the month on all sites. Very Well Said!

Sinner101GR2926d ago

Big seller, think we all knew it was going to do well. Glad to know Bungie is signing off from the series on such a high note.

Garrus_Vakarian2926d ago

There will be fewer retcons.
