Does this 3D incarnation have the bite of its 2D legacy? Find out in the official GameTrailers Castlevania: Lords of Shadow review!
Actually one of the more damning reviews. It's funny how reviews directly conflict sometimes. This review said that they camera was annoying and unhelpful while another review said it was one of the most geniously implemented cameras they had ever seen. I felt that this review sounded overly harsh but I won't know until I play it. I suspect that there might be elements of tediousness in this game but I will get it anyway.
they dont mean that much really, especially now that gaming is mainstream.
This game, this game is really sucking the last bit of optimism I've had for video game reviews out of me. It's mediocre, really mediocre, so how are so many sites giving it 9s? I don't get it. How is this game better than Dante's Inferno, and Darksiders did a much better job of copying the God of War formula so how does this game get 9s when those games got 7s and 8s.
... darksiders has been said to clone zelda youngling, not God of War .. anywho ... the reviews on this game are really strange .. a lot of the reviews seems to love-hate-it. It's like they are happy with the results but they are bashing it at the same time. Still, the average score seems to be 7 or 8 or 10, which isn't too bad. Maybe rental to check this one out first seems fair.
@StanLee You must be 12...or something. How can you even think of comparing a game of this depth and scale to mediocre games like Darksiders and Dante's Inferno? Cant you appreciate the stellar voice acting or at least the amazing music that is synonymous with this franchise? This game is more than a copy, it has its own original features and exceptional art-style that completely supersedes anything the other games have to offer. Graphics - 9 Music/ Sound- 10 An absolute MUST BUY
Dante's I wont argue over but Darksiders had depth and scale and was far from mediocre. IMHO it was not only an under rated game but my favorite sleeper hit this year. Darksiders even had a great ending that pumped me up for the sequel. If Darksiders 2 was to hit retail the same day as Castlevania:LOS and I had to choose just one? Darsiders 2 would be making the trip home with me. C:LOS would have to wait for another day. With that said, I will be picking up C:LOS since Darksiders 2 isn't due out till 2011.
If you look at the scores they gave it, then you'll see the problem they had with it was the Level Design. Story- 8.6 Design- 7.1 (fall to your death too many times, puzzles can be annoying, getting lost with no map or sense of direction, and camera issues). Gameplay- 8.4 Presentation- 9.0 I think the score may have been a little low (It should have at least been an 8.?), but level design is a big part of a game, so I can understand why they gave it the 7.9
X-Play gave it a 4 out of 5, They usually have fair, soild reviews. If I'm gonna listen to a review it's theres. So now I have to check this game out, but only when the price drops. Maybe a midsummer game for me.
they are honest yes, but they have the taste of 10 year olds.
I'm not a fan of the 5 star system. Mostly cause it transfers poorly into metacritic. Not that it should matter but still. A 4/5 means good but it's an 80%. so no game can get a 9. It's either good or perfect. I am excited to play this game still. Looks good.
Lol someone actually listens to G4, sad.
@M-Easy that's a funny statement considering your on the N4G site that usually allows fanboy articles to run with no proof behind them at all. Most of the reliable news stories on this site come from the G4 site and reporters.
I won't listen to much on reviews for this title. I'm getting this no matter what. One thing irritates me tho. Why do reviews think they can demand things that clearly the developer didn't want or implement in the game? Like exploring, maybe they didn't care for it to be much for an open world and wanted the linearity of the game? So really it's not a bad thing but a good thing. Look at GoW3. The linearity gave it a much more action concentrated game.
Invisible walls, not so good camera work and lacking platforming were the complains, if I got them right. It is pretty much consistent with Gamespot review.
Lacking platfformer, wait, what if... they simply didn't want to include platformer? I mean, how do you criticise Mario for its lack of shooting?
These are some of the reasons why I have now chosen to rent it first instead of drop the $60. @Ahasverus... If platforming is to be a decent portion of the game, it needs to be done right. Same goes for shooting.
I generally like GT reviews, mostly because they have lots of game footage so you can see if you like the game, without taking much notice of what they say. But their reviews seems to be a bit inconsistent. Like in this review they seemed to focus on the negative...
You don't need to have played any of the previous games in the Castlevania series in order to understand the story in this one.. So, A good start for newcomers. That's pretty cool, right?
this and GS give the lowest scores for this game oh well still getting it
who cares? the game is great
yeah right and the camera in God of war is great....
It's pretty damn good.
Yep, its the best.
Ummm, yes it is!
What's the score? I don't want to watch the review in case of spoilers.
7.9, but don't listen to them. They're too inconsistent in reviews.
Lol, Lords of shadows was too hard to Gt's staff. Poor thing.
No kidding. They had like 3 different scenes attempting to show how the game was broken, but to me it looked like the guy playing was an absolute moron. Along the lines an FPS player walking into a wall and saying "look how bad the camera is!"
I love when they show him on the ledge in what looks like a jungle, and the game shows a yellow outline and where he's supposed to go. He's like, "IT DOESN'T TELL ME WHERE TO GO!!", then he jumps down and kills himself. And blames the game. Retard.
Agreed, maybe they should go back to playing "Barbie's Horse Adventure". I love it that this game is going to be harder than most, bring it on!
I hate mainstream reviews. And Bobby Kotick. If anyone wants to see my reviews, which are considerably less biased, remember that I'm just a PM away from a site link. Anyway, I'm quite excited to get this. I've played and beaten every Castlevania game known to man. I love the series, though anything from Symphony of the Night and above isn't an actual Castlevania game to me. Let's see if this will change that.
He was expecting metroidvania.
tedious ... I mean ... he said that in the review like most game lack this one element. I can't think of one title that regardless of it's namesake, quality, or guts that doesn't get ... tedious for at least one moment or two
GameTrailers can suck A BIG FAT ONE!!! 7,9 cuz its not fps
Yup, if it was some generic FPS, then watch the high scores roll in... Ughh, makes me sick that they review this gem of a game stupidly.
Castlevania is supposed to be hard!!
with the scores they gave this game Story 8.6 Design 7.1 Gameplay 8.4 Presentation 9.0 the final score it should be 8.2,i never understand GT,they are doing this with all their reviews
None of them have an actual brain. Use GT for vids/trailers avoid them like the plague for reviews.
Some parts seems really boring...
I know how the game ends. Dracula doesn't even matter any more it's gone full on Satan/God. They've Americanized this game all to hell. It's not a Castlevania game it's God of War/Dante's Inferno.
At last a fair review for this game...
