You know what gaming needs more of? Firmware updates...

Sarcastic Gamer steps back and looks at a few of the "trends" that should just go away... Prepare to be offended.

From the article: "I know what you’re thinking: Not another post bashing the PS3. You’re right! It’s not. This is really all about the cliches and the things we wish would go away in gaming.

Including articles like these! Get meta, after the jump."

I wish installations were in the background and we could just restart to take effect, just like PCs.

Fishy Fingers2820d ago

The lack of RAM and the like would make that difficult.

jneul2820d ago

IT DOES HAVE IT IT'S CALLED AUTOMATIC DOWNLOAD AVAILABLE FROM PSN+

catguykyou2820d ago

Why would I want to pay for updates when I get them for free from the same company on the same console? I already pay for one online service. I'm not paying for another.

Nitrowolf22820d ago (Edited 2820d ago )

um
no that isn't the same
background installation means we can go stream across the XMB, message people, ect while it is installing. This is just downloading patches and then installing them while you are asleep or something. Not the same

... I would like the ability to install entire games to my PS3's hard drive like you can do with the Xbox 360.

Active Reload2820d ago

To make it load faster? I actually use to laugh at the 360 because of the disc problems and noise, but when MS added that update for installs...I shut up, lol. They added a lot with that update, eject button on the NXE, faster loading, no scratch discs. I couldn't even play my Kameo disc for a couple of years because of a scratch along with a dent in it. I installed it to my hard drive and bam...it worked. But like I was saying, the only thing I could see benefiting the PS3 with this option, would be faster loading times. My question is, why hasn't Sony put Skype on the PS3? Its on the PSP, so what gives? I seriously think the PS3 could do some extreme damage if they make it as open as...iOS or Android. Seriously, am I the only one who thinks this? I have Vonage, Skype, even the mobile hotspot app through Cydia on my iphone and a whole lot of other stuff. All this kind of stuff should be happening with these consoles, but its not. I just don't get it.

jneul2820d ago (Edited 2820d ago )

What do you call games like Wipeout HD, Warhawk, Quest for Booty, oh that's right I remember now, these are all titles that can be fully installed to your HDD:-D
Pretty sure an universal one is not required for ps3 look at games like uncharted 2, it managed to do really well on things like loading times

CimmerianDrake2820d ago

The 360 NEEDS that ability, the PS3 doesn't.

dirthurts2820d ago

You realize that from the disk the 360 loads faster right...
So installing from the HDD only broadens that gap.
I would certainly say it's the other way around.
I would install on my PS3 if I had the option.

CimmerianDrake2820d ago

That the loading speeds of the actual drives are a mere second apart in actual speed, and the developers can significantly lower the speed if they want to right? No? Wow, I'm so not shocked.

Jazz41082820d ago (Edited 2820d ago )

someone actually wrote about why i quit playing my ps3. This is great but so true. What a mess is the ps3. I also forgot about all the mandatory installs since bluray and ps3 are to slow to read from the drive that makes this machine a nightmare to play and a lot of devs say its a nightmare to code for.

CimmerianDrake2820d ago

Seriously, epic comeback. Gotta love it.

And to add to it...

Fishy Fingers2820d ago

You quit playing on your PS3 because of a 10 minute interruption every few months? Or did you really quit because it was imaginary?

Britney Spears2820d ago

A lot of games are using the steaming technology instead of installs. I rather have that than 3 disks.

gamingdroid2820d ago (Edited 2820d ago )

That is until your disc drive wears out on your console and it cost you a $150 to fix it or buy a new PS3 for $300. I would rather have installs and that is why PC is superior in that aspect.

Heck with a platform like Steam, I can download my games on ANY computer!

Dr-ZOOM2820d ago (Edited 2820d ago )

Firmware update very hour and mandatory installs that's why I love my Ps3 *wink*

writersblock2820d ago

Cus they totally release an update hourly

No, really
Totally

No sarcasm

....
Ok sarcasm
