While it remains uncertain whether or not we'll see the Nintendo 3DS released in western territories before the end of 2010, we have received new information regarding the hardware powering the 3D-enable
Doesn't seem very powerful at all. Uses 2 last gen iPod touch/zune processors (one for each screen I assume)
considering what ive seen seeing from the 3DS so far i disagree
its the software and dev talent that count. Those that are able to pull off amazing tricks you couldnt even think possible. I can think back to the genesis and the first batch of titles and then look at the ones it had near its end and its like night and day. Same hardware folks...just a different approach to getting every last drop.
I hope they wise up and revise it so that the control stick/nub is on the OPPOSITE side of the screen from the D-pad. I wanted to punch a wall when I found out that they did the same thing PSP did with the control nub.
how would that even work... for non fps games and such?
i never did like rumors that were based on nothing but oh someone we know who we can't say who it is said it was this and that i prefer the rumors that have some kind of source credible or not over no source at all
im not too sure but shouldn't this be classified as rumor?
actually now that you mention it your right shouldn't it have a rumor tag in it?
HEY Ign were eventually right about Kid Icarus. It took 2 years, it was on a different console, but it came true.
The PSP2 will blow this out of the water
it depends on what exactly you mean by blow out of the water? remember when everyone was saying the psp would destroy the DS it was the end on nintendo blah blah etc etc look how that turned out
Ok, let me clarify.. The PSP2 will graphically blow the 3DS out of the water. As for sales, I have no idea.
Who cares about graphics? The 3ds wil be the greatest handheld ever
well considering the 3DS is getting a HUGE graphics upgrade over the DS and considering the excellent line up of games so far that really doesn't matter at the moment
The PSP KILLED the GameBoy brand and forced Ninendo to come up with a...(ahem)..."third pillar" called the DS. :)
i really hope your just joking and or being sarcastic with what you said i seriously do if your not then wow.. just wow normally id take what you said as a joke considering it is just that a joke but here on N4G not so much considering the DS brand released november 21st 2004 while the psp brand launched december 12th 2004 not to mention the DS name was shown practically 2 years before its release not to mention the gameboy brand still has outsold the psp brand so honestly i hope you were just joking i can't tell the jokes from seriousness on here anymore...
@hotforplay PSP apparently killed the Gameboy DURING the height of Pokemon global domination? WOW, you must be right.
And yet the 3ds will be the biggest handheld ever, go figure
FF6 Remake with voice acting and 3D, etc FTW!
the 3ds is pretty powerful more than 3x as powerful as the dsixl 2 processor and a dedicated gpu and nintendo is always conservative with the clock speeds.
With game consoles it should never be about the hardware, it is always about the games. If we have to talk about hardware then just look at Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 running on out dated hardware they look superb. Why? because it is how games developers utilise the hardware not the power of the hardware. I detest PC gamers and any other hardware powerhouse fans who come along and chuck money and nonsense at how much better their games look. They have a point indeed but I am much more amazed by developers who use witchcraft to bring out amazing titles from old hardware. On a side note yes I do have a laptop that plays games fine and my all time favourite is L4D2 because it is a blast to PLAY not to look at. For me it is how enjoyable a game is. The DS may be lacking in the hardware department and indeed some games do look bad but for me the DS. It has some fantastic games, a few are not too bad looking either. I am a 24 year old male and I love the DS much more than the PSP. The PSP is a good gaming device but it lacks the amount of quality titles compared to the DS. Look at Metacritic 7 DS games have an average in the 90 region, the PSP has 3. I can't specualte how good the PSP2 will be but given the track record I think in the handheld war Nintendo will win again.
IGN has learned that the Nintendo 3DS will pack not one, but two 266MHz ARM11 CPUs, along with a 133MHz GPU, 4MBs of dedicated VRAM, 64MBs of RAM, and 1.5GBs of flash storage 4MB dedicated Video RAM, nah can't be with the graphics it can pull off.
in the right hands, amazing things can happen regardless of limitations.
that is so true the 3DS games we have seen so far look absolutely amazing (resident evil for me) and this is just the consoles start the games released later on down the road will look and be even more amazing its always like that for every console the games later on down the road look waaay better than the games in the beginning
Most of the games shown have been on par with their PS2 counterparts, albeit in 3D. The PS2 had 32 MB of RAM, a 295 MHz processor with a 180 and 150 MHz coprocessor, and a 147 MHz GPU. I think the 3DS is performing exactly as the specs here would suggest.
I think this hints a cheaper then expected price because most phones have 1 ghz and dual cores are coming so why would they use in total 582 mhz when they could do so much more. I suspect they're trying to keep it at under $200
3DS is a whole new experience.. That's all you need to know, Now get excited! You probably already are.. xD
PSP with 3D screen. They even added a *single* analog stick. And... augh. A 133 MHz Pica will barely exceed the PSP's fillrate, and won't even come close, with regards to triangles. Yet the 3DS has a screen with near 2x the pixels... Now the reasoning behind N64 ports is clear. I'll stick with my PSP and DSi.
obvious troll is obvious
I'm not trolling bud, I'm on topic (unlike you). This is not the Nintendo fanboy everything-is-A-okay club where no one is allowed to be disappointed. I'm disappointed. I woulda got one on day 1, if it was a tad more powerful, even if it cost more money. As is, I can see it selling well, at a price point of around $209.99. What I wanted probably would have cost $249.99 at least. ...and I was okay with that. Who seriously wanted these specs? People were hoping for a 400 MHz Pica!
your not trolling really? you seriously believe that bringing in "PSP with 3D screen" in a article that had nothing to do with the psp at all? trashing the 3DS despite it being an improvement over the DS and the PSP? riiiiiight no trolling here "Who seriously wanted these specs?" considering the 3DS is a HUGE upgrade over the DS so far everyone who wants to upgrade from a DS does people were hoping for an improvement in power and they got just that and allot of it as well with the games we have seen so far looking as good as they do pretty much everyone is getting what the y were hoping for improved everything + great looking games
That's right, I'm not trolling, I'm disappointed. Not allowed, according to you?
considering im calling you out on your trolling which is as obvious as the brightest sun being disappointed because the 3DS is an improvement over the DS and PSP? be disappointed as much as you want trolling about it gets you nothing
Trroy it's hard to compare the pica to normal gpus it's not really the same. It's doing way more with less. Way way more. To understand you would have to know more about the tech. The difference in the higher MHz was a few frames for certain things and the power vs out put was not worth it I believe. On top of all of that the yields may have been lower. Basicly it's no slouch.
I will be buying 3ds and psp2 when they come out on launch day and all i want from psp2 is two analog stick and a powerful processor so i can play ps3 game like a man can dream right
two analog sticks powerful proccesor and no umd=]
Let's hope this hardware is enough to push at least Gamecube graphics.
Graphics dont matter, as long as the games are good. The ds had more good games than basically every system other than the snes or ps2 (including japan)
Graphics don't matter when Nintendo has crappy hardware. But they do matter when Nintendo has decent hardware. It's weird that everyone was saying, it's gameplay not graphics when comparing PSP to DS and saying PSP is bad cuz it has console-type games not made for handhelds and the one analog stick is stupid. Then 3DS is announced with a bunch of SURPRISE!! Console-type games and it has SURPRISE!! ONE analog stick and it's the greatest thing ever with AMAZING looking console-type games and AMAZING graphics. Weird eh? Congrats for matching hardware that was released SIX years ago in the PSP and pricing it ridiculously high when PSP hardware goes for $100 nowadays. But that is Nintendo's MO isn't it? Wii incrementally better than a gamecube but priced the same as a 360 arcade and SLIGHTLY less than an Elite/PS3. And the DS priced the same as a PSP. RIDICULOUS.
Fact! Ps2 had more good games than any handheld or console ever! Fact! Ds has more shovleware and games that use the touch screen as a gimmick now then when it came out. @firelogic And the worst part is that they are selling at a PROFIT. PROFIT!! NOT LOSS!!
funny you mention that considering when it was ps2/xbox/gamecube it was the ps2 fanboys who would say the same thing heck i remembe rit being the same back during the ps1/n64 @Otheros00 its also funny you mention that considering the PS2 was the console with the most shovelware last generation
If you want graphics for upcoming games, then wait for the next crop of cell phones or the PSP2... But for the record, graphics mean squat when it come to handheld games. It does not sell systems. Games do...and from the early lineup of titles for the 3DS...It's going to do well with fantastic support AND 3D. I say good luck to the PSP2...it's going to need it
If developers continue on the hotstreak the PSP is going through this year and next, PSP2 has nothing to worry about. maybe if you would take 1 second to take off your fanboy blindfold, you'd see the RIDICULOUSLY amazing library of games released for the PSP this year and upcoming. It wipes the floor with the DS's offerings and it's not even up to debate or opinion.
WOW...Just WOW....I make a comment and I am INSTANTLY a fanboy LOLLOLLOLLOLOLOL What a clown you are. Look at my post. Everything I said is fact based on past history of handhelds. Handhelds do not sell based on graphics. If that were the case, the PSP, Turbo Graphix 16, Sega game gear and Lynx would have all blown away Nintendo's offerings every generation. It's games. And the reality is, Nintendo handhelds have more dev support than any system out. You might not like the games on that system but it has more dev support. But carry on crying "fanboy" BTW. Where in my previoius post do I bash the PSP or PSP2? All I said was the PSP2 is going to need a lot to beat the 3DS. i AM NOT TALKING OF "QUALITY" GAMES OR GRAPHICS..I AM TALKING OVERALL MARKETSHARE. You fully bring forth what is wrong with this site and fanboys. If someone has an opinion that is different than yours...Instant label "FANBOY!" You sound like a Republican
Hear hear. DS RPGs are a joke compared to PSP this year... DQ IX is basically it. A big it, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but pale in comparison to all the stuff that's been hitting the PSP lately.
sorry dude but i call you an idiot on that one DQ9 was and is a very excellent RPG especially considering what they did on the little DS its amazing btw the DS has been getting RPG's since its launch allot of them are very excellent rpgs it only took the psp this many years after its launch to get the good RPGS its getting now?
I'm just still amazed by the huge first and third party top tier dev quality IPs that are being released for this handheld. Tbh the last Nintendo hardware I bought was the Gameboy Advance but now thanks to its huge selection of games this might be the one that breaks the ice. Cant wait to play Ocarina of Time again with some Snake action as well. In 3D! If this one gets Monster Hunter then I wouldn't even care about the PSP2.
you can count on that your gonna start seeing MH games on this from now on im willing to bet that knowing capcom there isn't a doubt in my mind heck if the 3ds takes off which i believe it will ill go so far as to say the 3DS can potentially become the new home of monster hunter 1. its a handheld and japan + handhelds + monster hunter = success 2. im willing to bet the production costs to make games on the 3DS will be the cheapest out of the lot of everything out there in the future monster hunter on 3DS? i don't doubt it in the least maybe then well finally get built in online as opposed to ad hoc (not a fan of ad hoc for MH)
prolly they will gonna port MH3rd on the 3DS...
"64MBs of RAM" Eyep. That's Nintendo hardware, alright.
xbox 360 is cheap cus the kinda blow up :/ oh and yeah. oh and the reson der exsited botu grapifcs is 2 say in ur face to psp owners basicly lol and yeah 3ds is better specs then psp we all no this but who cares the point is its gona have the great games :D WOOOT KId ICARUS
