SG: It doesn’t matter how awesome the horses in Red Dead Redemption get, or that Starcraft 2 has obliterated expectations with a whole new game that feels familiar. It’s not important that we haven’t even seen what this Fall has to offer.
For the fans it certainly is, but there are many games coming out that could very well take away the GOTY crown. My Bets Are On Gran Turismo 5.
Relax dude, the site's name is SARCASTICgamer.com. The author was being sarcastic.
I actually don't know why you are getting disagrees, after reading the article it certainly sounded like a joke.
prob xbox fanboys.... but even looking at Metacritic, Halo Reach isnt going to win GOTY. its got 92 which is a respectable. but if i am correct, God of War 3, Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead redemption already have higher score than reach.
idk which article is more proposterous: This or the one after it
Let's not use Metacritic as a guide for anything. Also, 92 is far more than "respectable". I would call games that are "good" respectable, and I don't think 92 is a "good" score. A good score is 70ish IMO. It seems more and more people only care about the 90-100 mark and anything else doesn't matter. And I don't mean to pick on your wording Windex, I just mean in general. Also, this "article" isn't even funny. It's like a 10 year old wrote it. I used to think SarcasticGamer was witty, but these articles they send in really are worthless flamebait. Now second, I'm sure Reach will win some GOTY titles, but numerous games win GOTY in one year. There really isn't an official GOTY winner, especially this year with the diversity of AAA titles, Reach being one of them. People aren't going to read the article and they will use the title to argue about the title. I find that the actual article, if it's trying to be funny, is just stupid and now people on here will be more hostile towards Reach getting GOTY than ever because this article title postulates such an attitude. The reality is that GOTY is a personal pick, nothing official.
GT5 SAYS HI
did people already forget about GoW 3 and ME2...those two kick started gaming in 2010 and then you have RDR...upcoming games like LBP2 and GT5 will also contend for 2010...overall, we have seen a lot of AAA titles this year and that is only a good thing im not quite sold on Black Ops, but time will tell if Treyarch has gotten down a formula that will finally be able to balance out CoD gameplay, especially when it comes to MP
Just played HALO Reach Deathmatch tonight at a friends place, and all I did was PWN NOOBS. I went 18 kills and 11 deaths on my first game. I built my skills by playing Resistance 2 and Killzone 2. HALO is easy.
I agree with you, Killzone 2 is way more of a challenge than Halo, not so much Resistance 2 though.
Depending on your team and who your up against Reach or any shooter can appear easy. I can guarantee you if you come against a group of Halo all stars you might get 1 kill.
@ Lowcarb, I am an allstar in pretty well any FPS I play. I PWN, Noobs get smacked!
It still surprises me how many people comment w/o reading the article first.
If you love killing, you should try MAG. Nothing's funnier when you've killed a lot of noobs and you hear them saying "he's hacking" or "he's lag switching". I'm going with ME2 for GOTY.
God of War 3 says HELLO
We need a flame bait police
We can expect the trolls to cry "MS paid them"
Mezzo seems pretty relaxed to me. Just sayin. Btw, some people will say Reach is GOTY, others will say GT5 is GOTY..and other people will say its ME2 or LBP2. No ones wrong and no ones factually right. Its all opinion. I haven't played Reach yet, but if I did, it would probably be my personal GOTY since the FPS genre is my favorite and Reach seems like the best console FPS on the market as far as gameplay and replay value..the two most important aspects of a game IMO. "Especially considering he claimed to get to Hercules but has (at the time i checked) no trophies contributed to GOWIII up to that point. You get the picture. Also contrary to what he tells you, he has a 360." Sidenote to Solidjun: If ur here, which I know you will be since you brown nose all my comments. Ur a liar. U say I have a 360...wheres your proof??? And you say I have no trophies for GOW3...ur a very funny man. Raztad can verify what games I have and haven't beaten very easily if you'd like to ask him. As far as I'm concerned, I have nothing to prove to you. Ur just plain stupid. How do you determine what consoles a person has or doesn't have based on their comments??
Your comment contradicts your other comments. It's unfortunately you can't see that. Well...maybe not.
it will be between Halo Reach, crackdown 2, and Mario Galaxy. But yes, i do think Reach will win.. anyway IMO, reach will most likely be my GOTY. Loved all the other halo games, and Reach looks awesome!
crackdown 2 was terrible.
crackdown 2? really? mario galaxy 2 i can understand, even halo i can somewhat understand but crackdown 2 but crackdown 2? either your being sarcastic or you sir are on crack. as of right now mass effect 2 is GOTY in my mind.
Crackdown 2 was like playing Devil May Cry 2.
I highly doubt it will be Crackdown 2.
How can he be wrong? if its his goty, its his goty. GOTY isn't tangible, its still some fat reviewers opinion. goty FOR ME as far as polish/gameplay/story Goes to God of War 3. Halo would be hard to get GOTY for me, considering its just halo with a patch. Its a good FPS as far as console FPS's go, but it doesn't do anything and hasn't done anything FPS's at large have done. If so, it would be a console FPS's fan every iteration just because. Theres nothing like GOW3 on PC/Console, just as there isn't anything like GT5 on PC/console. But all opinion.
It's a great game, but not GOTY quality. Of course, that's my own opinion. My bet is going to LBP2.
My Bets are On Reach @Emil1(below) ''god of war 3 red dead redemption super mario galaxy 2 heavy rain mass effect 2 gran turismo 5 little big planet 2 or halo reach of course ps3 has the most GOTY contenders'' What about Alan Wake, Crackdown 2 and Fable 3? So thats 4 Exclusives for 360 and 4 for PS3..if i may correct you
Fable 3 is Multi, and Crackdown 2 was abused by having an awful developer screw up what Realtime Worlds made great.
"god of war 3 red dead redemption super mario galaxy 2 heavy rain mass effect 2 gran turismo 5 little big planet 2 or halo reach" @Imperator- You pride LBP2 for its "near infinite replay value". Okay cool. So why do you ignore the fact that Halo: Reach has more replayability and content than GOW3 and Heavy Rain combined. DOUBLE-STANDARD. "GOW3- I think we all know why this one is GOTY quality." WOW...thats a mighty good argument you made for GOW3 right there /s
Mass Effect 2/Civ 5/Starcraft 2/RedDeadRedemption/SMG2/Godof WarIII/SSF4 all have better scores than Reach. Gran Turismo 5/LittleBigPlanet2 will probably score higher than Reach, not to mention Black Ops & AC Brotherhood have a shot at scoring higher than Reach. Reach doesn't even deserve to be nominated for GOTY, much less win it. Reach isn't a bad game, but it's Score is way to low to even be considered. If GOTY was a popularity vote, Reach would have a shot, but GOTY is only a judge of quality,
Dude, I don't mean to disrespect you..but what is it with you and scores?? I'm curious as to why you mention all these games, yet you don't tell us about YOUR personal experiences with them? Thats what counts. YOUR experience with the game..not some critic who gets paid to judge a game and give it a numerical score. "Game of the Year is a judge of quality not a judge of popularity." I agree, but "quality"(as far as video games are concerned) is EXTREMELY subjective. Everyone has different opinions on what a "quality" game is. Objectively speaking however, games like Uncharted 2 and Halo: Reach have showed the industry the epitome of what a great single player campaign and incredible online suite should be. So, these games DESERVED to be honored in some way, shape or form. "Im not bashing on Reach, but there can only be 5-6 nominees for GOTY" Says who??? "and with a score of 92 at Meta, it is just too far down this year." ..........but, with that logic, GOW3 has just as much of a chance at being GOTY as Reach. Your being hypocritcal. You apply "92 score being too low thing" to Reach..but not to GOW3.
@lou-cipher I'm sorry, but how is 92 too low? While I agree that (in my opinion) Reach is not a GOTY contender, 92 is a great score.
Like I said, GOTY is not a popularity vote, it has nothing to do with sales. The Game of the Year is a reward for making the "BEST of the Best" game that year. When you have 8-10 games that have scored better than Reach at the end of the year, does it really deserve to be nominated for game of the year? Game of the Year is a judge of quality not a judge of popularity. Im not bashing on Reach, but there can only be 5-6 nominees for GOTY, and with a score of 92 at Meta, it is just too far down this year. A 92 would have been good enough in 2008 or 2009, but not in 2010. There are way too many high scoring games this year. @Imperator 92 isn't a low score, but it is to low to be nominated for GOTY when there are 8-10 games this year that will have scored higher than 92.
I don't think you understand his point. You are being contradictory because you are saying that Halo Reach doesn't have a high enough meta score to be game of the year but then you also say that God of War 3 is in the running to be GOTY even though it has the same meta score. Sounds biased to me.
People read the article !
What was the purpose of this. He/she wasted 15 min. of their life to type and post this crap opinion. Halo Reach will win GOTY awards from some sites, Mass Effect 2 will win for some site, Red Dead Redemption will win from some sites, GT5 will win from a few sites (racing games have all the odds against them no matter how good they are), Call of Duty will win from some sites, LBP2 will win from some sites, God of War 3 will win from some sites. This year there is no definitive GOTY contender, there will be multiple winners. And if any game deserves to win it's LBP2 or Mass Effect 2.
I'm in total agreement with you: the GOTY award is purely a personal decision. There are just so many high quality games out there that it becomes very hard to make a single choice. Halo: Reach, God of War III, Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption...the list goes on. That being said, I think the Game Developer's Choice Awards deserve a special mention as it acknowledges only peer recognition. The GDCA awards are given by distinguished game industry veterans (Ray Muzyka, Harvey Smith, Clint Hocking etc.) who have shaped the games we play today. Any thoughts?
It's definitely my Game of the Year. That's followed by Mass Effect 2. Nothing else coming out this year interest me like the interest I had for the above two games.
god of war 3 red dead redemption super mario galaxy 2 heavy rain mass effect 2 gran turismo 5 little big planet 2 or halo reach of course ps3 has the most GOTY contenders
Like always. I think either LBP2 or GT5 are strong contenders. Those two game pack more content than any other games out there.
I hope you read the comments above troll. There are just as many 360 exclusives if not more when you factor in arcade games.
Hmmmmmm... no, I think Gran Turismo 5 is the Game of The Year IMO (Thanks to the guy below) Not trollin', Just speakin' the truth.
opinion. I think you're either trolling or you're really ignorant. take your pick.
it won't win, it'll may be nominate at the least!
Halo Reach is a great value for the money. I think it could definitely be GOTY and it wouldn't be surprising. It packs a lot of content and it's a well-balanced, good-looking title with user-generated content as a main feature. It has all the same qualities as Little Big Planet 2. if LBP2 can be GOTY, why not Reach? You can criticize Reach for having a somewhat sappy story but LBP's story is sappy as well. And GT5 doesn't even have a story. I think people don't want Halo Reach to win many GOTY awards because they don't want to see Microsoft gloating about it. Neither do I, but what can I say? I love the game.
"You can criticize Reach for having a somewhat sappy story but LBP's story is sappy as well. And GT5 doesn't even have a story. I think people don't want Halo Reach to win many GOTY awards because they don't want to see Microsoft gloating about it. Neither do I, but what can I say? I love the game." Bubbles..its one HUGE double standard on this site. The same people that argue that GT5 will win GOTY due to its content are the same people hyping up GOW3 as a GOTY contender...but GOW3 packs much less content than Halo: Reach and has MUCH less replay value...yet its a better contender for GOTY than Reach? Thats a load of hypocritical bull.
LBP's main core is its level creation. The single player "campaign" was just a showcase of what the devs could do with the creation tools, which urged players to try to set the bar higher than they have. There's a reason why gametrailers never gave it a score based on the single player aspect of it. Sure, Halo's main attraction is it's online, but it still has an actual campaign and given that other fps has storylines, people should not be turning a blind eye when nominating it for GOTY because of the number of people playing online at any given time. Efforts towards single player campaigns, especially for FPS, should never be deemed a lower priority (or sacrificed). And did you just say GT5 lacked a storyline? ....It's a racing game. You're suppose to be the guy behind the wheel, doing races throughout your career...what did you expect? Character progression? You want the cars the talk to you while you drive them or something? Please.
So you're saying that Halo Reach should be scrutinized from every possible angle. I think Reach has a lot of amazing content, that if one were so inclined to say that the campaign isn't very good, they could still appreciate Reach for everything else it packs. By your logic, Uncharted 2 should also be judged as being a standard game, because while the campaign is amazing, the multiplayer is not. So shouldn't Uncharted 2's score be bogged down because of the poor multiplayer? Gran Turismo 5 packs a lot of content and so does Reach. Why is GT5 more deserving of GOTY than Reach?
I LOVE HOW EVERYONE FORGETS ABOUT GOD OF WAR 3... watch all those sites like IGN, Gamespot, Gametrailers, and even Spike forget about games like God of War 3 when they list their nominees. This happened last year with Killzone 2 and inFAMOUS aswell, it seems as if they forget about the games that come out early in the year when picking nominees.
they wont forget about mass effect 2 and it was one of the earliest release this year. me2 is my goty so far.
well if it makes u feel any better gameinformer will most likely give it to gow 3 because they usally pick the highest rated game of the year and the only other game they a 10 to so far is starcraft 2. imo GOW3 is tied with heavy rain for my favriot game of the year so far
GT5 and LBP2 they definitely should win. Not because they are PS3 games mind you but they raise the bar of gaming to a new level. They blow my mind whenever I see video of them and have so much content I don't think I will have to buy another game for a long time. I agree GOW3 deserves it to but ignorance rules the gaming nation and they will find some stupid reason to leave it out as a contender like ' it doesn't have multiplayer like Halo Reach does' BTW Halo Reach is nothing like LBP. I wish 360 people would stop saying that just because Halo has a Forge mode.
who announces Game Of The Year? like every gaming website chooses one but what's the official one? is it the VGAs?
Well, to me, I believe the Academy of Interactive Art & Sciences is the one that looks more official. If you've seen it, you'd know it actually flows a lot like the Academy Awards (except it's for video games). The VGAs is also a good award show. But it also mixes between awards and a LOT of new game announcements. I also find the VGAs a bit like a comedy show and performance show. I believe last year, Jack Black sort of did a little comedy skit on stage where I believe he was tricked that Brutal Legend won GOTY. lol Heres the official site if you're curious: http://www.interactive.org/...
I don't know, really, but it's the closest thing we have to the Oscars.
This article is delivering exactly what it set out to do, and now true to form, people are replying with their thoughts like they mean something on this website. Flame bait articles of the most intelligent kind.
I'm just laughing because the title is a Joke :D
Everyone has their own opinions, I think Halo: Reach is an excellent game worthy of GOTY. I guess we'll find out in December who won GOTY, but for me GOTY is what game I had the most fun with.
For me it's either Mass Effect 2 or Halo Reach, just because I'm such a big fan of Halo since Halo CE, and Reach was pure awesome. I don't have a ps3, but they definitely had some great games as well.
How are you people not picking up on the sarcasm? Granted, the article was dumb and a waste of time but still.. come on.
I have loved every minute of Reach so I could care less if it recieved zero awards or 100 awards.
Just so everyones clear, he's being sacastic right. Right? I mean read it. If he's being serious then, well........I dont know what to think.
1) Every series has a following and that following always thinks that game is best because it is to them. 2) Every person has their own personal GotY. 3) There are numerous GotY awards. 4) Why does it matter? Only the devs should get an ego boost from these awards.
Game of the Year contenders for me: (note i am only listing games that are out, as im not going to say a game can be game of the year contender for me when its not out and i havent played it) - Halo Reach: ill be playing it for years. multiplayer is second to none, campaign is great, and is the best 'social' game on a console to date. - Alan Wake: fantastic graphics, story, and atmosphere. gameplay might be repetitive, but what isnt these days? loved every minute of it. - Limbo: incredible game, so simple but so different. very creepy, and makes you think. - Battlefield Bad Company 2: single player didnt really do it for me, only done the first few levels, but the multiplayer is fantastic. - to a lesser extent, God of War 3: basically just God of War 2 on graphical steroids. had some seriously 'wow' moments, especially the first person bit and the scale of the titans, but at heart its just a brainless brawler where you just have to recognise the attack patterns of each type of enemy and wait for them to end so you can attack. so far for me, the win goes to Alan Wake.
You're entitled to your own opinion of course. No suprises what your opinion is, of course. I just think it funny that you dont apply your reasons for excluding PS3 games to Xbox games. "God of War 3: basically just God of War 2 on graphical steroids." After all Halo Reach is just Halo, and it doesnt even HAVE the graphical steroids, its a mild upgrade. Good game though, the best since part one, but I'm returning mine for Dead Rising 2, I hope its good.
i didnt exclude God of War 3, i clearly listed it right there in my post. Reach made significant game changing improvements over Halo 3. God of War 3 didnt do the same over God of War 2. a whole new health system, armor abilities that add a whole new level of tactics and thinking to the multiplayer, removal of dual wielding, active playlists, firefight, forge world, etc etc. whatd god of war 3 do that 2 didnt? nothing. it upped the graphics. nothing that i said has anything to do with what console a game is on. when you try and make it about that, it shows who the fanboy is. you.
Bathyj, of course Reach isn't going to have the same graphical jump over Halo 3 as GOW3 did over GOW2, since Reach is on the same console while GOW3 and GOW2 are on totally different generations of hardware. I am a big fan of both franchises and I can say for a fact that Reach has just as many improvements and new features over Halo 3 as between GOW3 and GOW2, probably more.
