The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3's download services have opened the gates for a new type of game, but one that's comfortingly retrograde; whether it's the polished retreads of Bionic Commando or Perfect Dark or the past re-imagined such as Geometry Wars and Pac-Man Championship Edition – these games, which we're often told is where the future of consoles lie, have a distinct whiff of yesteryear about it.
