Ripten: I am aware it costs a lot of money for a high quality cinematic in a game. The problem at hand is those scenes bridge together the gameplay. How can you take those cut scenes out of context and charge for them?
Hate to break this to you, chaps, but Bobby Kotick would very much like to charge you for everything. He is, after all, a businessman, and (surprise surprise) this is how businessmen think. There's a pretty big gap between what they would like to do and what they deem practical though.
Yes, he would like to charge for everything. But IN GAME CUT SCENES. That is bullshit. Imagine if whatever your favorite game is had all the cut scenes ripped out and then put on PSN or XBL for $30. Open your mind. Just because he performs business moves does not make it right. Assholes like him see the potential of these online services and abuse the shit out of it.
And would that explain how MW2 ended up being a 3 hour game. He cut alot of the cut-scenes out so he can use em as DLC later D: *Shock* If he cut gameplay sequences out too I wouldn't be surprised. But since every loved it so much, all that cut content will go into MW3.. >.< Though selling the online component of a game separately front he Sp might be something I will be interested in. Like paying 20bucks for Sp only and 30bucks for Mp only. So you dont have to shell out 60bucks to buy a game esp. if you dont plan on playing one of the two modes.
Bobby Kotick would like to sell you a disc without the game on it for $10 first. If you're interested, you can pay $50 for the game without cutscenes. If you're dying to know what the cutscenes look like, you can pay an additional $10 to download them. It will have stellar voice acting from the guy who does AFLAC commercials. If you like the cutscenes, and want to play online, he'd like to charge you a small $9.99 fee per month. The first month would be free if you choose to suck him off instead. Great business model buddy. I will never buy another Activision game thanks to this clown.
If I a true moron, I would happy to pay anything you suggest? Hmm...
and will pay for this shit the same way dlc is being purchased now. Stop supporting this digital download shit guys and girls. It will ruin gaming in the long run. If you don't have the hardcopy then guess what -YOU DON't OWN IT. Kotick does this shit because he knows he can and he's throwing straws in the air with letting us know he wants to charge for cutscenes. He and others in the industry are paying attention to how we, gamers, will react to it. Some of you act like you WANT to be ripped off. Trust me, bargains always come with a hidden price and that price is not only money. The gaming industry aint what it used to be
Gamers need to stop bitching and then paying up. Speak with your money and don't buy stupid shit.
I've been protesting with my wallet, I haven't bought an Activision game since CoD4 with the exception of SC2 but I got that at $40, so it was fair. As much as I want to try Transformer:WoC and Spiderman: SD, I can't find the price justified especially with the DLCs. So far, I've only supported games that I believe a)justify it's price aka bargain bin or b)well worth it on day 1 like Gran Turismo 5 will be. I can't say the same about others.
Would like you to give activsion your life savings + college funds along with your soul and free will, and then your organs for whatever reason he might be able to fathom.
how many of you didnt buy CODmw2?............ exactly !!!! hopeless bunch... peace
I will lynch anyone who pays for this.
let's just lynch kotick and be done with it.
I dont think thats what hes getting at, if you read the qoute you will understand better. “Within the next five years, you are likely to see us do that. It might be in a partnership with somebody or alone, but there will be a time where we’ll capitalize on the relationship we have with our audience; deliver them something that is really extraordinary and let them consume it directly through us instead of theatrical distribution. If we were to deliver a film digitally this way, I’d say an extremely high percentage would then go to the theater and watch it again.” This seems to be closer to the rumor floating around about activision considering doing their own console/onlive type thing with cloud computing and what not. I dont think, and i could be totally wrong of course, that hes talking about this the same way.
It would be a dumb move i think with how much gamers hate activision already and valve having such a strong service.
Kojima would make so much cash if he did!!
No he wouldn't only a dumb ass would pay $20-$30 for an 1hr. 30 min of cut scenes! Thats like saying people would pay $80.00 for a 6hr. game!
its a joke... hes known for long ass cut scenes...
Yeah I know that! I played MGS4 didn't beat it but there were some pretty lengthy cut scenes in that one!
Kotick gives you MW2 that last for 4 hours and cost the same and extra in some places! and as the purchase bonus, you get tons of glitches for free! that's Kotick for ya!
His Wife? No Bobby, we don't want your Wife...
is she hots? JK
I'd like to sell Kotick an ass kicking...he probably wouldn't buy it though, kind of like us and cut scenes.
Allow you to beat the crap out of him if you gave him some cash, and record it and sell it to other for more cash...
Normally I don't wish harm on somebody just cause but I really wouldn't mind seeing Scrooge in a horrible change my views on life kind of accident!
is looking really greedy thanks to this dude lol.
He would... typical money & power mad CEO. It'll be idiots like him that destroy the industry by simply driving away gamers and consumers alike with their petty nickel and diming.
What's next kotick? Are you gonna sell me the charecters too? Or the letter in the game? Are you going to have a 1 month exclusivity with microsoft on the guns in COD?
LOL! I can see it happening at E3 next year. Major Nelson: "We have a great partership with Activision, so 360 owners are getting GUNS first!.. That's right, if you want to have a gun in this shooter, you need to buy the Xbox version. Then, we'll have exclusive DLC for the rest of the guns too at $4.99 each"... EDIT: "Oh i forgot! Bullets are exclusive to Xbox version and cost $1.99 each"
"and we are removing all instances of "E" in the game if you want the the exclusive DLC of the letter E pre-order it for your X-box 360. ($10 for the letter E on PS3)"
Most of us that know kotick will never buy it. Edit: The picture on this article looks creepy.
This guy is the problem with DLC in video games today. He started the problem.
What about charge for Oxygen?? It should more profitable. Think Cocktick, think.
wtf... that's ridiculous! This man should never have been born, His father should have used a condom! (borrowed from fellow N4G'er :P)
It sounds like he want's to have a movie service of some sort and thinks that because of it a large precentage of people will go to the cinema to watch that movie again. Well Bobby. You are one dumb son of a bitch aren't you? You would go to the cinema to watch a movie when they can do it at the release date right at home? It's much more confortable and saves some money. But to be honest if Kotic will have a service like this than I will never use it. I understand how business works and business needs to make money but there is a line where you have to stop. Kotic has crossed that line a long time ago. In fact he is so far from it already he already forgot all about that line being there. So he will just go on and at the end he will charge $2.99/gun in COD.
Bubble to you, finally some who realizes there is a line. People seem to think business is all about money with no lines these days especially on the web.
good cause i wont be buying it
do whatever you want greedy bastard, I haven't bought a single game from you all my life..and never will!
I wont be buying anything from this guy. sorry buddy. Also, kinda sorry i bought mw2. Live and learn.
LOL I wounder how much he would charge for a Metal gear game.
Funny the most successful business people are the biggest douches.
waaaaaait wtf!!!! charge for cutscenes? is he serious? because if that happens, then goodbye cutscenes. and final fantasy's kingdom hearts and other rpgs would just be like 120 bucks for the sheer amount of cutscenes. same for mgs and anyything else with a good story......*someone make this guy get hit over the head and get bussiness amnesia what i think is funny is activision has crappy cutscenes so why charge? imagine if HQ cutscenes like square enix, santa monica, platinum games, kojima productions etc etc all charged. their cutscenes are actually amazing unlike activisions now if they are going to make feature length films based off of the games and are u know pixar quality, why not, sure we all loved advent children. but if ur just gonna charge for regular low quality lazy ingame cutscenes F U
Is he a moron ? If they took cutscenes out of games & just put them online to buy like a movie then no one will buy the games. Just the cutscenes
lol only way its allowable is if the games are dropped to 30 bucks. then no one would buy cutscenes. activision only makes shooters with bad stories anyway
/\/\/\/\ Activision only publishes the COD games.
This guy is really starting to sound like he's lost it. This is a strange idea. Paying extra money for cut scenes? And he thinks customers are mindless drones that would pay to see these cinematics in a theater? Some serious pretentious BS going on with Activision. They really think people will line up to pay for any crap they throw out there? BTW Kotick - We don't buy games to watch cut scenes. Many of us skip past that sh*t if the game let's us.
Is this a joke? This guy and activision make me sick. You can't charge someone for watching cut scenes. I really hope this guy and activision go bankrupt. They don't deserve a penny from anyone and I ain't buying any of their games again.
i am never buying an activision published game again.
sadly we are the only ones that can resist buying the same glitchfest every year called call of duty so we are the minority
I haven't bought an Activision game since early last year. I know I'm in the minority, but I wish that more gamers would follow suite.
"those scenes bridge together the gameplay" That's what has been missing during my early gaming child hood, no wonder I finished games back then, there was never cut scenes during the gameplay, to let me take a break. I'll just let someone else upload the cut scenes to youtube or what every and watch them for free. I'll use that $20-$30 for the ISP to watch them.
