With the high-definition update of Shadow of the Colossus now a reality, it's time to look at what made this game so special.

this game was nothing short of a masterpiece and we know it.

Everyone that played and liked SoTC knows it was a Masterpiece and no other game since has topple it. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus were unique and that why they are my two favorite games of all time.

The game had clunky controls but I never cared (except for this one time when I kept falling off a ledge, by they may have been me just being a moron). Everything about that game floored me. The story, the scale, the graphics, the atmosphere, they were all amazing.

It really is hard to put into words how this game made me feel.

colonel1792618d ago

I disagree. I really liked the controls, since you had to press R1? to hold yourself. I think you had a lot of control of what you wanted to do. But that is just my case

LeonSKennedy4Life2618d ago

That and it had full button mapping also.

I know that doesn't make up for the "clunky controls", but still.

I felt that the controls were perfect, but to each his own. :)

They've spoken numerous times how the delay was done on purpose in order to achieve better, and purposeful, animation. It allows for more anticipation in Wander's movement, and makes him feel slower - which it's meant to. You'll notice when he runs that the sword dangles awkwardly behind him. This is another example of how they used animation to convey story through many different means. It shows that Wander isn't used to carrying the sword around.

I am beyond excited for the HD remake! I've played a good 200 hours of SotC! I never got through Ico though. :( I didn't hear about it at launch because I was still pretty young and didn't have access to most of the information about games. I read about it in PSM when they were talking about SotC, but never thought twice about it. I played it a couple of years back and absolutely loved it! I just never got to beat it before my friend needed it back. :( I can't wait to play both!

Would anyone else want Move controls on this? Really, all I want to do is stab into the colossi with the controller. Everything else can use normal controls. I just want the satisfaction. I mean, isn't that what Move was created for? Immersion? That world...is a world I spent hours of my life in...one that I used to escape reality.

In high school, my friend Katie died in a car crash. I stayed up playing Shadow of the Colossus all night. It helped a lot. :) I'll never forget it.

Isn't that what gaming is all about? Escaping?

Sorry about your friend. Glad you could find alittle solance in this game.

I wondered if youve seen "Reign on Me" with Adam Sandler.
His famaly died in 911 and he's really disconectted from society. He plays SotC over and over again, maybe cos it helps him cope with life, maybe just cos he likes it. Supposedly the Collosi falling are supposed to represent the towers. Its a pretty powerful film. Sandler is suprisingly good in dramas.

You're right, it would be so immersive to strike a blow with move. Can you imagine how that would suck you in. Dont forget you had a bow as well.

the movie Reign Over Me, by Adam Sandler. A very touching movie, where SOC is the game the character of Adam played in order to escape reality.
